“Gangstas in the field…Ladies on the busâ€
Â
One of the many quotes jerry Manuel used to reel us in after we have suffered the types of years that nobody could have imagined in this age. The mets these days have lost their annual (it seems) key component to a season that seemed destined for retribution. While I still have faith we can still accomplish our goal, the mets will have to adopt a different image and have to play a different type of game to do a lost art it seems these days…â€manufacture runsâ€. People often wonder why the Philadelphia Phillies have so much success without having really any big names to their club. The answer is very simple…role players. The Phillies have mastered the art of getting the most out of average players such as victorino (feel free to vomit), werth, dobbs and Pedro feliz. I believe the mets have to modify their strategy to incorporate role players to surround what is left from a power driven core. In short…Manuel needs to let these ladies off the bus and give them their “G†back.

Completely agree Dirty. Great first post as well.
I thought Church and Murphy could be those players. Maybe they could be but there is no way Manuel will ever allow that.

Murph at 1b or in AAA, Church in RF, Shef in Left, until something better arises.
Please get Angel Pagan and Ramon Martinez off my team as soon as possible. If we are want an offensive black hole at 2b, we might as well call up Argenis Reyes as he is excellent on defense at least.

I really dont think The Mets need to change any image. The last couple games we lost was mainly due to mental mistakes and people playing out of position due to injuries. Losing streaks WILL happen. Hell, a team that wins 100 games is considered great, I guarantee you they have a few losing streaks in those 62 games lost.
Im interested to see how this Murphy at 1st experiment goes, but it shouldnt be permanent till Delgado gets back which I think will be by late season. I really urge Omar to make a move for Huff. Shouldnt cost too much, seems like a leader, and puts up adequate numbers.

I don’t think Ramon Martinez or Angel Pagan are terrible BENCH players. Ramon can fill in just fine for Cora. However, when a team has Pagan, Reed and Ramon playing at the same damn time? And then wonder why we can’t score?

Martinez looked lost. Very exposed for what he is.

If they are on the bench, Jerry is going to play them often. That is my problem.

Ok, I got the pictures here but you have to scroll over top of them to get them out of the way. I guess it will take time.

Agreed, but the poor guy had gotten basically no ST and then only about 10 AAA AB’s. The bigger problem is still why in the hell was he starting and batting 6th?

I agree on Huff.
Don’t know yet about the image change. Does it seem like we are more prone to these MENTAL lapses that other teams? Nervous? Tight? or just bad at fundamentals?

Man it sure looks like it this yr, trs. I honestly cant recall many brain fart moments the last couple yrs. Can you? Last yr our issue was blowning games, this yr the issue is players playing running around with half a brain. Its really turned comical.

Last night around 630 they were playing Remembering Shea on SNY. It was interesting because a commen tfrom one of the 86 Mets really made we think and it rang true. If the 86 Mets lost a game they were shocked and looked at it as a mistake and the next day they would win again. It is so true because I remember when I played sports and was playing against lesser competition and lost you brushed it off so quickly and almost laughed. It was as if that was a mistake and your opposition simply got lucky. You had no doubt the next day you would win. Dont think our team has that swagger that the 86 team had and even our 2006 team had.

I agree. I think it’s pressure. It’s like they wait for the shoe to drop. They did that last year. Could not get out of their own way. I still won’t go as far as to say choke but we really have players 2nd guessing themselves a lot WHILE they are playing and you can’t do that.

I think Eric Karros said it best on Saturday’s game. The only “team” the Mets have to fear is themselves. He was so right on. Albert then commented what about the Phillies etc, Karros was still adament that the only way the Mets would fail again this yr, is if they cant control their inner demons, per se.
Btw, dont know if Karros grew up a Mets fan, but he was really giving the Mets props throughtout the game, which is so weird to hear outside of Gary, Keith & Ron. Then you got the “Dream Team” over at ESPN. I dont watch Mets games on that channel because of the lousy commentating, ludricous comments and outright dislike for the Mets. Thank god for Gamecast.

Yes..As much as I hate to say it…The Yankees are getting that swagger back where no matter what happens either Jeter, Damon, ARod, Tex will come through with a big hit. I mean Damon is playing ridiculously. I really think they are going to walk away with that division once the Blue Jays come back to earth. I hate to say that but Wang, Posada, and Nady are all out and they still look dangerous. BOO BOO BOO.

Games of streaks, Joe. We had ours last wk when they were going through I believe a 5 or 6 game losing streak.

Yes definitely a game of streaks but in the Yankees case I think it is more of them getting on track and playing like they will for the year. Arod is back and Texeira couldnt be happier. He is killing the ball because he is seeing pitches now.
