According to Mike Francesa of WFAN, Jose Reyes has been diagnosed with tendonitis behind the right kneecap. Â He cannot do any further damage, has rejoined the team and is day-to-day.

From about.com:
What is tendonitis?
Sometimes the tendons become inflamed for a variety of reasons, and the action of pulling the muscle becomes irritating. If the normal smooth gliding motion of your tendon is impaired, the tendon will become inflamed and movement will become painful. This is called tendonitis, and literally means inflammation of the tendon.
What causes tendonitis?
The most common cause of tendonitis is overuse. Commonly, individuals begin an exercise program, or increase their level of exercise, and begin to experience symptoms of tendonitis. The tendon is unaccustomed to the new level of demand, and this overuse will cause an inflammation and tendonitis.
Another common cause of symptoms of tendonitis is due to age-related changes of the tendon. As people age, the tendons loose their elasticity and ability to glide as smoothly as they used to. With increasing age, individuals are more prone to developing symptoms of tendonitis. The cause of these age-related changes is not entirely understood, but may be due to changes in the blood vessels that supply nutrition to the tendons.
Sometimes, there is an anatomical cause for tendonitis. If the tendon does not have a smooth path to glide along, it will be more likely to become irritated and inflamed. In these unusual situations, surgical treatment may be necessary to realign the tendon.
UPDATE: According to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, this diagnosis was originally made Saturday at AT&T Park by ‘a doctor.’ Â Below is an excerpt from his article published 05/17/09 7:38 PM ET:
{But on the bench Reyes will remain, at least for one more game. For the fourth straight day, Reyes insisted that his calf had improved, but for the fourth straight day, the Mets were unwilling to take a chance. Reyes saw a doctor Saturday at AT&T Park and received a new diagnosis: a mild case of tendinitis in the leg.
Rest was the prescription, along with his now-usual routine of ice, heat and massage.
“I have to be worried about it, no doubt,” Reyes said, rattling off a few contradictions. “It’s getting better, but I mean it’s slow. I don’t think it’s going to be that long before I get on the field.”
Originally feeling the injury prior to Wednesday’s game, Reyes tried to run since then but was met with pain. He has been taking regular fielding and batting practice and could conceivably pinch-hit in a close game, as he did Saturday, but running — a Reyes forte — remains an issue.
“It’s affecting my running,” Reyes said. “I’m not able to run the way I want to. That’s dangerous. If I play like that, maybe I can make it worse.”
“We just have to be careful with it,” manager Jerry Manuel said, expressing surprise at how long the calf has taken to heal, but insisting that Reyes is not considering a trip to the disabled list. “It’s still a little tender.”
Manuel’s only relief is that the Mets are doing just fine without Reyes. In three games against the Giants, the Mets have scored 24 runs, rapped out 42 hits and — here’s the kicker — stolen 13 bases. That latter statistic is a franchise record over a three-game span.
Yet Reyes is missing the party.
“It’s too boring for me to be on the bench,” he said, hardly joking. “There’s nothing to do there.”}

damn, I bet that picture makes 718 salivate.
glad to hear the injury isn’t worse.
Jose, get some rest, you’ll need it to steal two bases.

That’s all well and good, however, if it hurt too much to play in a game that you are in danger of being swept? Does it just get better with rest?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Great News! We caught a break. Suck it up Reyes…ok get some rest and then lead us the way you are capable! Your not a rookie anymore! Maybe Omar can take a deep breath and go back to focusing on a power 1B or power outfielder with a sprinkle of a starting pitcher lol

I am still seriously worried about Reyes. And if Francesa is saying it, how reliable is the news?

Like I said earlier, Jose had 5 games off to rest it and reaggrevates it 12 innings later. I think he should be put on the 15 day so he could get over 2 weeks to heal it while also giving us the extra bench spot.

Anyone take the survey that was posted with Matt’s post on the comment section? What joke questions. Do you think the comment section makes hurts the overall impression of the blog. LOL. You dumb ass, it’s one of the things that MADE your blog. Your hard work and then a lot of us. How arrogant can you get?

Qnsnative you should be able to post now. Let us know if you have any questions.
Those of you that post, please continue to check the category box so if needed we can sort these things more quickly. Also, it helps you keep track of what you have posted.
Eventually we will have to assign some roles I guess. I like being able to post whatever the hell we want too.
For now when you are making a post, just check the post log and make sure no one is posting anything similar.

Hey, fellas, I was wondering what you intend to do when Cerrone eventually opens up the Comments Section again. Trs and Mrose have done a great job improvising and coming up with blogs of their own. Now, I dont intend to hop back on the Cerrone Im the $hit now Bandwagon; especially after being ignored like a child with a bib.
And I dont buy that “Well he’s a busy guy” line. He’s gotta staff that must monitor the posts plus we know he or his staff reads the emails. He just answered one(not related to our beef) a couple days ago as a matter of fact! If thats not a slap in the face, I dont know what is. Anyway, just curious on what ya intend to do.

Jose had roughly 5 days off to rest it and he agravates it 12 innings later. This sounds like something thats gonna be chronic. Hope Im wrong.

my guess is at the time, he was nervous and didn’t want to chance further damage…
also TRS, I responded in my post a few posts back about changing hte name of the blog, i said to hold off for now, we’ll just have to back it up once the other domain is ready

I know right?? Bizarre..he took like 5 days off…how many more will he need since Im sure he didnt help it yesterday aggravating it again. WHY WASNT this diagnosed last week? Maybe and this might be a stretch did they think Reyes was being a baby or exxagerating because of his baserunnung plunders?? Only reason why i ask this is because if your STAR shortshop complains of eneough pain in his calf that would keep him out of games wouldnt that call for some immediate action?? I mean the SF and LA Dodgers couldnt find this out? Very weird

If it makes the news any more reliable, John Minko also reported it during his ’20-20 update.’

Completely agree. Myself excluded, you, trs, kingman, mrose, metsfan4decades etc were really the heart of the comments board. Without that little crew, youll have lil suckers like amazinmets runnin around. No, people must know where we’ve gone(Damn, I sound so dramatic). Plus we could get an even bigger following especially if people know now where the intelligent Mets fans have gone. It’ll teach a valuable lesson to Cerrone. Just a thought…

5/21/2009-3:58pm at 3:58 pm (UTC -4)
LOL. I’m not sure it’s ego as much as stubborness. I don’t even know the guy but that’s the one trait that seems to stick out for me. There were hundreds of comments on those posts begging him to stop playing with the format daily and I’m willing to bet several emailed him as well. And for the most part, he just ignored it. Kept on doing his thing.
In his mind, I’m sure he thinks he’s addressing the issue. But who shuts down a comment section for days? I read numerous baseball blogs and I’ve never seen anything as bipolar as metsblog.com. Once or twice some of the other ones I read have had a problem and it was either immediately addressed or a post went up acknowledging the problem letting all know it was being worked on.
I mean, come on – who changes the format in the middle of hundreds of posts w/o so much as an explanation???

Thank you kind sir. I read your and TRS’s diaries and I realized that you guys are doing this despite being 600 to 1100 miles away from your topic. Being that I am about 60 miles from NYC I felt when I heard Francesa make the initial announcement that it was ‘my duty’ to report it.
In the future if I stumble upon anything else that seems vaguely like a ‘scoop’ I’ll do my best to post it promptly.
