The 490th consecutive sellout crowd at Fenway Park witnessed the visiting Mets defeat the Red Sox by a score of 5-3. Â The victory snapped a 4 game losing streak for the Mets.
Tonight Johan Santana responded to adversity by striking people out. Â In the first inning, with 2 runners
on and none out, Santana proceeded to strike out David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis before inducing a Jason Bay grounder to end the inning. Â In the second inning, after a Jason Varitek solo home run, Santana struck out Julio Lugo to end that inning. Â After a one out double by Dustin Pedroia in the third inning, Santana ‘struck’ again, getting David Ortiz looking before Kevin Youkilis swung and missed to end the frame. Â After hitting Youkilis with a pitch with two outs in the fifth, Santana struck out Jason Bay to end that inning. Â Trouble? Â Meet strike out.

Daniel Murphy checked the lineup card and found that he was leading off for the first time in his major league career. Â He responded by striking out swinging at a pitch which, had he not swung and instead stood on the plate, would have hit him in the ear. Â He did later successfully execute a sacrifice bunt so the night was not a total loss.
The Mets made 3 errors in the game, 2 by new fan favorite SS Ramon Martinez, and 1 by 3B David Wright.
As a team the Mets have made 35 errors this season, with an astounding 11 of those committed in games started by Johan Santana. Â Martinez now has 4 errors in 4 games played for the Mets this season.
Gary Sheffield homered in the second inning. Â It was his 3rd of the season, and the 502nd of his career. Â Later in the game Jason Varitek also homered, his 8th of the season and the 169th of his career. Â Good luck catching him Jason.
David Wright’s RBI single in the 4th inning gave him a 13 game hitting streak. Â I think he looks better in a baseball cap, but that’s just me.

Johan Santana hit Kevin Youkilis on the elbow in the 5th inning. Â Words were exchanged between them, but cooler heads prevailed and the dugouts never emptied. Â Perhaps Johan will send Youkilis a bottle of Watkins liniment, the official liniment of Johan Santana.
I just wanted to throw this picture in. Â Tomorrow night at 7:10 pm on SNY, the series continues with Mike Pelfrey (4-1, 4.61) versus Josh
Beckett (4-2, 5.85). Â Tonight’s box score courtesy Yahoo.com.

Great win, considering the defense tried to lose it for Johan – again. He is just that good though.
Ohhhh, the box score included. Thanks!
Jerry on the post game (for those who don’t get SNY):
- Church probably won’t be available tomorrow.
- plan was to DH DWright tomorrow but that will depend on Beltran’s knee.
- asked about Martinez playing SS tomorrow. Jerry said something like, I don’t think I have any option. Tatis has even less experience there.
- called down to the BP for the 8th and was told J.J.s neck had stiffened up during the game so he said we’ll go with Parnell.
- asked if Johan is getting a little perturbed with the defense behind him. Jerry said yes, it has to be frustrating for him and we need to play better defense behind him.

And wow – Martinez is really hitting .062? No offense dude, but you just don’t belong playing with the big boys.

I write my own stuff (I take notes during the game, I don’t copy someone else’s summary) so thank you I appreciate that, but my computer skills suck. I feel like I have this stuff spaced properly, but then when I submit it it’s all lopsided and overlapping, and I have no idea where the hell the smile in the boxscore came from.

Any one of you who have edit privileges if you can make it so that at least the boxscore isn’t over Pryor’s face that would be great. And any hints to help me do a better layout job will be gladly accepted.

I’m not seeing it that way, Grave. His pic is perfectly placed right above the box score in the right hand corner. I’m using Firefox right now.

Aha! I am using Safari, but I also have Firefox. I will log in using that browser instead and check it out, thanks for the tip!

Thank you MF4D, I switched to Firefox and while I would still like to learn how to lay this stuff out better, at least on this browser the stuff is not literally on top of each other. Thanks again for noting your browser. Now allow me to give you a little eight closed parentheses 8)

I think we will be seeing Argenis in no time. He can hit and field better than Martinez….that is so sad

I can only guess that the numeral eight followed by a close parentheses makes the smile with the sunglasses. Let’s try here.

Ha! Anytime. Least I can do since I feel like I’m the only one not doing much to contribute here and having all the advantages of reading this great stuff.
As I said a day or two ago, I don’t have a creative bone in my body, sadly…
