The Don's Record: 6-2 Era: 1.50Â Â K: 75 BB: 14 WHIP: 1.05

Mets Notes(hat tip to yahoo and adam rubin):

  • Santana looks to win a third consecutive start Wednesday night and help the Mets complete a three-game sweep of the hapless Washington Nationals.
  • The Mets have provided Santana  with 12 runs of support to help him win his last two starts. That’s one more run than they managed in his first seven outings of the season, when he went 4-2 with a 0.78 ERA.
  • The two-time Cy Young Award winner overcame three errors Friday, allowing three runs – two earned – and seven hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings of a 5-3 win at Boston.
  • Lately, the Mets have been better defensively, winning three of their last four games without a miscue to match their longest streak of the season.
  • New York has won 10 of the last 13 meetings with the Nationals, including five of six at home. However, the club hasn’t swept them in a three-game series since April 15-17, 2008.
  • Since joining the Mets in a five-player trade from Minnesota prior to the start of the 2008 season, Santana has won all four of his starts against the Nationals with a 2.33 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 27 innings. He beat them again on April 24, yielding one run and six hits while fanning 10 in six innings of a 4-3 victory at Citi Field
  • Jerry Manuel said Omir Santos was in the original starting lineup, but was pulled because of a bruised shin, which he suffered Tuesday.
  • Also, Manuel said he intends to do a platoon at first base, despite using Fernando Tatis on Tuesday against righthander Craig Stammen. The manager said he thought slumping Daniel Murphy needed a break. Tatis should return to first base on Friday, after an off-day, with the Marlins scheduled to throw a southpaw in the series opener.
  • Manuel said infielder Wilson Valdez, acquired from Cleveland, should get his first Mets start Saturday in a day game, although he’s unsure whether it will come in place of Ramon Martinez or Luis Castillo.
  • Alex Cora expects to have a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo this weekend, before being activated early next week, he tells the Daily News. Cora hopes to play a game apiece at second base, DH and shortstop. Meanwhile, Jose Reyes and Ryan Church should be headed to the Mets’ complex in Florida soon.

Nationals Notes(hat tip yahoo and federal baseball):
  • The Nationals own the worst record in baseball, are have managed only three wins in 17 games since a season-high three-game winning streak May 7-9.
  • The right-hander, who turned 23 Saturday, allowed two runs and six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings, while the offense generated four hits in a 4-2, 12-inning loss to Baltimore on Friday.
  • Despite that solid performance, Zimmermann is 0-1 with a 6.98 ERA in his last five starts after starting the season by winning his first two with a 2.38 ERA.
  • One of his victories, though, came at New York on April 26, when he gave up one run and six hits in 5 1-3 innings of an 8-1 win
  • A Florida man at the center of a massive steroid bust has told law enforcement officials that he sold performance-enhancing drugs to pro athletes, including those on the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals.(Dont wanna start anything but this cant be good)

killer-instinct-snes-cover-front

Yet another opportunity for the Mets to work on that killer instict. The Mets have swept both mini series (2 games) against the Braves and Phillies, they also have a 3 game sweep against the Pirates. With over 40 million dollars on the DL the Mets managed to put up 6 runs over the Nationals yesterday. Tonight the Nationals have to contend with the great Johan Santana (somebody give Manny Acta a Flask with the hard stuff). Good teams are able to  close the door and beat the teams they are supposed to beat. The Mets could not have selected a better guy to go out there to do just that. LGM!!

  6. trs86

What’s the point of Krod coming in? I guess with the day off?

    1. dirtysanchez

idk…green has not pitched in a few days….let him mop this up

      1. trs86

I guess Manuel wants to keep Krod fresher than Green.

        1. johan4cy

          hmmm, wonder why…..

          1. trs86

LOL, I think at this point Manuel hopes Sean Green goes off and trys out to be the Tin Man.

  7. trs86

Nats announcers ragging on Reyes hair.

    1. QnsNative718

      Ridiculous.

    2. dirtysanchez

well…it does look a bit ridiculous lol..perhaps makes him more aerodynamic…

      1. fongy2

        They should worry about
        their God awful team
        and hoodlums like Dukes
        and Millage.

    3. metsfan4decades

You’ve got to be kidding. He’s not even in the game. I guess they have to talk about something b/c the Nats stellar season is not an option – LOL.

      1. QnsNative718

They can talk about Belliard and his tongue. Thats gotta be more engaging conversation for a gNats broadcast.

        1. trs86

Yeah, but they have to talk about it 162 games a year.

      2. dirtysanchez

it gets worse…they said angel and castillo are “distributors”…they started talking about how that sounds like a transformer…

        1. trs86

Distribuor? LOL what in the hell are they even talking about.

          1. dirtysanchez

i have no idea lol…i think they are drunk

    4. CaseStreet

how? he’s not even playing. should GKR rag on Millz’?

      1. trs86

Agreed, but what has not already been said about him. He’s on the DL too, in AAA HAHAHA.

        1. metsfan4decades

          Yeah, I don’t miss him.

          1. QnsNative718

            Millz? Who’s that? (sar.)

          2. fongy2

STILL should have gotten more for him!
            See:
            Delmon Young.

          3. CaseStreet

            no comparison

  8. dirtysanchez

valdez about to make mets season debut…

    1. fongy2

And the Wilson Valdez era begins!!! You go!, Omar!

  9. metsfan4decades

I just can’t hear who they’re say ‘You Suck’ about. It doesn’t sound like David Wright.

  10. dirtysanchez

ugh…4k’s for wright…not a good night for david

    1. QnsNative718

      understatement. ; )

      1. fongy2

        Wheres Alex???

        1. QnsNative718

          Lol..

  11. metsfan4decades

Whoa – bad offensive game for DWright tonight. That’s O.K. – happens sometimes. His teammates have his back.

  12. dirtysanchez

ok wrap this up guys…1st place baby…

  13. mrose

    wooo
    i haven’t commented yet..so wooooooooooooooooooo!

  14. trs86

Wright helping out The Real Dirty Mets Blog too. No doubt that if he continues this Alex and Mr. Bill WILL find their way.

  15. oleosmirf

can someone tell me why Ramon Martinez has a lower OBP then his Batting Average. How is that even possible???

    1. trs86

LOL, I have no idea. Where did you see that?

    2. kingman26

Wow; good one…I think the only way it would be possible is if OBP is calculated using plate appearances and not at bats, so sacrifices and sac flies count against his OBP but not his BA….

      1. trs86

That can’t be or Adam Dunn would never have an OBP over .200.

        1. kingman26

          Ha! Good point….

          1. trs86

That being said, that is it. BB give them an on base and sacrifices do not. He has 1 sacrifice.
Thus he had 30 AB’s 31 PA and 0 BB and 1 SF

          2. kingman26

Yeah, that is the only way it would seem to make sense…

  16. kingman26

Geez, gotta say, maybe Pagan is decent….

    1. trs86

Good enough for a Endy replacement.

      1. metsfan4decades

        Agreed.

      2. CaseStreet

        thought that was Reed.

        1. fongy2

          Stretch,
          stretch
          AND
          stretch!

    2. CaseStreet

      that sir, is an insult.

The guy is a very good all around player. The kind of player that Championship Teams have on the bench and make key contributions throughout the season!

      1. kingman26

Yes sir, correct as usual….I was not big on Pagan, but am definitely changing my mind….he does indeed seem like an ideal 4th OF on exactly the type of team you describe.

  17. kingman26

540 comments!! About HALF what Metsblog would get, and this site is ONE WEEK OLD!!

Please accept my gratitude, and my glee at how amazing this place is already!!!!!!!!

    1. fongy2

      I 2nd THAT!!!

      1. QnsNative718

        Yessir!

  18. dentulous

    oh murph….

  19. kingman26

I wonder when was the last time we scored 7 runs and won without Jose, Catlos and Beltran playing and with Wright K’ing 4 times…pretty cool….

    1. CaseStreet

      excellent point.

  20. CaseStreet

Dude, K-Rod is trying to pad his saves.

    1. kingman26

LOL! But he the official scorer wouldn’t give him one in a spot like this, if he creates the save situation…

    2. fongy2

      Again, if say so case.
      Millage and Young weren’t
      comparable prospects at the
      time traded? O.K..

      1. trs86

I will have to agree that they were NOT comparable at the time traded. We had already damaged Milledge’s trade value tremendously.

        1. fongy2

          And same with
          Delmon Young.
          T.B. had him
          pegged as lazy,
          not a team guy
          and a potential
          problem. THEY
          shopped HIM.

  21. dentulous

always an adventure, the last out that is

  22. metsfan4decades

Come on, KRod. Get this last out, please.

  23. trs86

That should be 2 errors for Murphy tonight.

  24. metsfan4decades

    And the ballgame is OVER!

Sweep accomplished. Nice to see the guys got it done for Johan, who needed the help tonight.

    First Place!

  25. QnsNative718

    Done and done!

    1. fongy2

      Funny! Re:above and your
ex. Mine too, hence I didn’t
      leave early enough and cost
      me half my sh*t!

  26. dentulous

    thats K-rod

  27. dirtysanchez

    1st place baby!!!

  28. trs86

Great job guys. You guys all take the day off tomorrow.

    1. QnsNative718

      Gotta ice my fingers… ; )

    2. fongy2

      Hopefully Omar won’t!

  29. metsfan4decades

You know, Johan only gave up 3 hits in 6 innings, along with the Ks. The 6 walks though were uncharacteristic for him. Whether it was partly the ump or not, he still limited the damage with all those walks to 3 runs. That’s hanging in there. Especially when it looked like Warthen was trying to talk him into coming out after 5 and he didn’t want to hear it.

  30. fongy2

Am i the first person “moderated”?
    and if so why?
Just let me know WHAT is a no,no.
    Do I get a prize?

    1. trs86

I think it grabs “shi* and f*ck”

      1. trs86

And no you are not the first one.

      2. fongy2

        Got it! Said the “S”
        word. Won’t happen
        again!

        1. trs86

          LOL

    2. metsfan4decades

LOL. Seriously though? Hasn’t happened to me yet.

      1. fongy2

        Oh, your time will come!

        1. metsfan4decades

          Ha!. I usually use ‘shyt’….

    3. CaseStreet

      how funny is that :)
