The Don's Record: 6-2 Era: 1.50Â Â K: 75 BB: 14 WHIP: 1.05

Mets Notes(hat tip to yahoo and adam rubin):

  • Santana looks to win a third consecutive start Wednesday night and help the Mets complete a three-game sweep of the hapless Washington Nationals.
  • The Mets have provided Santana  with 12 runs of support to help him win his last two starts. That’s one more run than they managed in his first seven outings of the season, when he went 4-2 with a 0.78 ERA.
  • The two-time Cy Young Award winner overcame three errors Friday, allowing three runs – two earned – and seven hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings of a 5-3 win at Boston.
  • Lately, the Mets have been better defensively, winning three of their last four games without a miscue to match their longest streak of the season.
  • New York has won 10 of the last 13 meetings with the Nationals, including five of six at home. However, the club hasn’t swept them in a three-game series since April 15-17, 2008.
  • Since joining the Mets in a five-player trade from Minnesota prior to the start of the 2008 season, Santana has won all four of his starts against the Nationals with a 2.33 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 27 innings. He beat them again on April 24, yielding one run and six hits while fanning 10 in six innings of a 4-3 victory at Citi Field
  • Jerry Manuel said Omir Santos was in the original starting lineup, but was pulled because of a bruised shin, which he suffered Tuesday.
  • Also, Manuel said he intends to do a platoon at first base, despite using Fernando Tatis on Tuesday against righthander Craig Stammen. The manager said he thought slumping Daniel Murphy needed a break. Tatis should return to first base on Friday, after an off-day, with the Marlins scheduled to throw a southpaw in the series opener.
  • Manuel said infielder Wilson Valdez, acquired from Cleveland, should get his first Mets start Saturday in a day game, although he’s unsure whether it will come in place of Ramon Martinez or Luis Castillo.
  • Alex Cora expects to have a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo this weekend, before being activated early next week, he tells the Daily News. Cora hopes to play a game apiece at second base, DH and shortstop. Meanwhile, Jose Reyes and Ryan Church should be headed to the Mets’ complex in Florida soon.

Nationals Notes(hat tip yahoo and federal baseball):
  • The Nationals own the worst record in baseball, are have managed only three wins in 17 games since a season-high three-game winning streak May 7-9.
  • The right-hander, who turned 23 Saturday, allowed two runs and six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings, while the offense generated four hits in a 4-2, 12-inning loss to Baltimore on Friday.
  • Despite that solid performance, Zimmermann is 0-1 with a 6.98 ERA in his last five starts after starting the season by winning his first two with a 2.38 ERA.
  • One of his victories, though, came at New York on April 26, when he gave up one run and six hits in 5 1-3 innings of an 8-1 win
  • A Florida man at the center of a massive steroid bust has told law enforcement officials that he sold performance-enhancing drugs to pro athletes, including those on the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals.(Dont wanna start anything but this cant be good)

killer-instinct-snes-cover-front

Yet another opportunity for the Mets to work on that killer instict. The Mets have swept both mini series (2 games) against the Braves and Phillies, they also have a 3 game sweep against the Pirates. With over 40 million dollars on the DL the Mets managed to put up 6 runs over the Nationals yesterday. Tonight the Nationals have to contend with the great Johan Santana (somebody give Manny Acta a Flask with the hard stuff). Good teams are able to  close the door and beat the teams they are supposed to beat. The Mets could not have selected a better guy to go out there to do just that. LGM!!

I could say, but I’ll be polite. :)

      2. metsfan4decades

From those fan polls he runs on his blog. I don’t believe you have to be logged in to participate in those.

  6. dwrightisking

    look who it is everyone!

  7. metsfan4decades

Well, it’s MC on SNY right now, giving the fan predictions for this homestand.

Monday on Metsblog.com the overwhelming majority think I’m a douche. In other words, they think I can do a better job.

  10. mrose

wait wait wait…did that just say “for more fan interaction, log on to metsblog.com”????

    1. metsfan4decades

Ha – quite ironic, huh? Wonder how that works with COMMENTS OFF?

    2. dirtysanchez

i believe they said to go for the wonderful comment section ;p

  11. kingman26

“Against weaker competition, we expect better results.”

So says the brilliant statistical scientist Matt Cerrone in his incredibly articulate moment on SNY just now!

Yes, he REALLY used his minute to say that!!

    1. dirtysanchez

      lolll…

    2. jonnyballgame

man I hope someone else wrote that for him.. cause that is weak sauce cerrone..

      1. oleosmirf

Matt never took public speaking im guessing…

    3. QnsNative718

Hey, Brock. Cant really tell but who is that as your gravatar?

      1. kingman26

Ha! It is a picture of Dave Kingman, smiling broadly and waving to the crowd at the last day at Shea celebration last year. He was such a jerk as a player, but this pic made him actually look like a gracious and nice guy, which I like to imagine him being…I swear, I know he is a gonad, but when I was like 10 years old and the Mets sucked in the late 70s, watching him hit monster blasts was the very best thing about Met games.

        Your pic is you, right?

        1. QnsNative718

Yea I shouldve figured. lol Yup thats a pic of yours truly.

          1. metsfan4decades

Nice. Man, you guys are so young…..
I’m impressed by the talent of you all though.

  12. QnsNative718

    Its our boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. kingman26

Man, I am developing some seriously negative thoughts towards Cerrone!

  13. kingman26

Dirty, that is an AMAZING pic of Johan!!

It seems like this site has been here forever!! As Dirk Diggler said, “It’s THAT good!!”

    1. metsfan4decades

I think that’s the new nickname for Johan – instead of ‘The King’, it’s ‘The Don’!

    2. dirtysanchez

lol i couldnt help it when i saw it. Soooo GQ ;p

    3. QnsNative718

“Its like Napolean when he tried to invade the Roman Empire…”

      1. kingman26

        HAHA!!

I am the boss of me! I am the king of Dirk!

        1. QnsNative718

Damn I butchered that line. It went more like “People always try to bring you down. Its like Napolean when he was the king… of the Roman Empire.” hahaha! What a movie. William Macy was the man in that movie!

          1. kingman26

That is one of my all-time faves….I LOVE that movie. Such an amazing cast….and apparently Burt Reynolds had some falling out with PT Anderson, as he was supposed to be in Magnolia too…supposedly when Burt watched a screening, he HATED the movie and screamed at his agent–can you imagine?!

Phillip Seymour, William H, John C, they were all so perfect.

And The Colonel “May I see it?…..Thank you Eddie!”

          2. QnsNative718

Im not surprised about Burt. He was always a prick. Magnolia was another one of those films that just kinda grabbed you. Doesnt hold a candle to Boogie Nights but still.

Another great line… “You wanna see me kick some ass! I know f*ckin karate!”

          3. QnsNative718

And John C. Reily is the man! He carried Will Ferrel in Step Brothers, imo.

          4. kingman26

Yes he did, and he also carried him in Talladega Nights!!

  14. oleosmirf

wright has been much for effective now that he isn’t looking to pull every AB. David is much more productive as a 25-30 HR hitter than a 30-35 HR hitter

    1. dirtysanchez

agreed…thats why i think he is better served in the 5 hole when the Calvary comes back..

  15. tkfj

    F*CK….

  16. dirtysanchez

damn…dunn hulked up on that one….YYYAWZA

  17. metsfan4decades

    Bah…..

  18. saltygary

WOWWW At least I get some fantasy points.

  19. tkfj

    Leadoff walks kill.

    1. dirtysanchez

      oh yea…big time..

  20. metsfan4decades

The offense will just have to come out and get him some more runs.

  21. sabermetrician

Adam Dunn is so locked in right now. He is so underrated, people concentrate on the Ks way too much.

    1. kingman26

His HR and walks would have been SO great in LF till Delgado got hurt, then at 1B with Shef in left….

      1. trs86

        But Murphy….

        1. kingman26

          Oy……

  22. dirtysanchez

ugh…why did i have to get stuck with the masn announcer

  23. kingman26

1–0 Marlins over Phils, top 5….

  24. dirtysanchez

    awww cmon ump

  25. danthemanmurphy

Damn. Oh well – Let’s Go Mets!!!!

Love what you guys are doing here.

    Hi dirty!

    1. dirtysanchez

      HEY LADY DAN!!! welcome welcome..

    2. trs86

      Welcome.

    3. metsfan4decades

Welcome. Nice to see you over here.

  26. trs86

Yeah, Dunn he’s just a product of that park he played in.

  27. tkfj

    Cmon Johan get it together.

  28. dirtysanchez

geez ump what game are you watching!!!

  29. metsfan4decades

Is it me or is this ump’s strike zone getting smaller?

    1. dirtysanchez

its not you…he shrunk it big time..

      1. trs86

Manny Acta got in his ear.

        1. dirtysanchez

so did dan warthen…guess acta is winning

      2. metsfan4decades

Damn. Nothing like having a game plan and the ump changing on you. He can do this though. Master of making those adjustments.

  30. metsfan4decades

    Sit down, son.

  31. dirtysanchez

    guys.. 80 pc for santana

  32. dirtysanchez

wow….what did santana do to that ump

  33. metsfan4decades

    Just have to say…
You click reload or refresh and in no time, you see the new comments posted. Such a refreshing change…

  34. mrose

wow..johan just doesnt have it tonight..plus the ump ain’t helpin

  35. metsfan4decades

    Well, shyt….

  36. dirtysanchez

    CMON!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. dwrightisking

    Eff you Sam Holbrook

    1. dirtysanchez

is that the home plate ump?

      1. dwrightisking

        yes

  38. metsfan4decades

Oh, man. Johan really struggling tonight.

  39. mrose

if this ump would give him ANY call he would be out of this..but seriously…he is just off tonight..his ERA has ballooned to 1.84

    1. dirtysanchez

yea i think that dunn HR really shook him up…but that ump squeezed him pretty bad

      1. tkfj

I thought the calls were fair, just no control tonight.

        1. dirtysanchez

he had a much wider zone through the first few innings..after the dunn hr he shrunk it big time imo. Santana got the borderline calls…that inning he did not

      2. dwrightisking

umm the 4th pitch to maxwell was strike 3 according to gameday.inning would’ve been over. stupid ump

        1. QnsNative718

According to GKR, the ump has been consistent. Whatyagonnado.

  40. tkfj

    Terrible, just terrible. Ridiculous.

  41. metsfan4decades

So come on, boys. You owe it to Johan to get some runs and get him off the hook here. He’s bailed ‘em out so many times with no offense and shoddy defense. Time to give back.

    1. dirtysanchez

      well..bright side..no E’s so far lol ;p

  42. wannybackstra

No sweat. Contrary to what the Mattsblog.com trolls would like to think, this team has been resilient and will pick up Johan with a handful of runs soon enough.

    1. metsfan4decades

      +1

  43. QnsNative718

We gotta new ball game. Johan looks pissed. He’ll bounce back in the 5th.

    1. tkfj

Too bad he’ll only get the 5th. 91 pitches hes done after next inning.

      1. QnsNative718

        good point. We’ll see.

      2. dirtysanchez

yea he is up there with his pc

  44. QnsNative718

Wow. Ramon WISHES he was hitting at the Mendoza line.

    1. metsfan4decades

Jose can’t get back soon enough.

      1. trs86

I don’t think he even got many AB’s.

        1. QnsNative718

Yea thats true. I believe he has some 20 abs..

          1. QnsNative718

            Make that 32.

    2. dwrightisking

haha…was he hitting at all in the minors?

  45. dirtysanchez

Zimm is getting stronger as the game goes on..

  46. dirtysanchez

    cmon martinez…..

  47. metsfan4decades
