The Don's Record: 6-2 Era: 1.50Â Â K: 75 BB: 14 WHIP: 1.05

Mets Notes(hat tip to yahoo and adam rubin):

  • Santana looks to win a third consecutive start Wednesday night and help the Mets complete a three-game sweep of the hapless Washington Nationals.
  • The Mets have provided Santana  with 12 runs of support to help him win his last two starts. That’s one more run than they managed in his first seven outings of the season, when he went 4-2 with a 0.78 ERA.
  • The two-time Cy Young Award winner overcame three errors Friday, allowing three runs – two earned – and seven hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings of a 5-3 win at Boston.
  • Lately, the Mets have been better defensively, winning three of their last four games without a miscue to match their longest streak of the season.
  • New York has won 10 of the last 13 meetings with the Nationals, including five of six at home. However, the club hasn’t swept them in a three-game series since April 15-17, 2008.
  • Since joining the Mets in a five-player trade from Minnesota prior to the start of the 2008 season, Santana has won all four of his starts against the Nationals with a 2.33 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 27 innings. He beat them again on April 24, yielding one run and six hits while fanning 10 in six innings of a 4-3 victory at Citi Field
  • Jerry Manuel said Omir Santos was in the original starting lineup, but was pulled because of a bruised shin, which he suffered Tuesday.
  • Also, Manuel said he intends to do a platoon at first base, despite using Fernando Tatis on Tuesday against righthander Craig Stammen. The manager said he thought slumping Daniel Murphy needed a break. Tatis should return to first base on Friday, after an off-day, with the Marlins scheduled to throw a southpaw in the series opener.
  • Manuel said infielder Wilson Valdez, acquired from Cleveland, should get his first Mets start Saturday in a day game, although he’s unsure whether it will come in place of Ramon Martinez or Luis Castillo.
  • Alex Cora expects to have a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo this weekend, before being activated early next week, he tells the Daily News. Cora hopes to play a game apiece at second base, DH and shortstop. Meanwhile, Jose Reyes and Ryan Church should be headed to the Mets’ complex in Florida soon.

Nationals Notes(hat tip yahoo and federal baseball):
  • The Nationals own the worst record in baseball, are have managed only three wins in 17 games since a season-high three-game winning streak May 7-9.
  • The right-hander, who turned 23 Saturday, allowed two runs and six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings, while the offense generated four hits in a 4-2, 12-inning loss to Baltimore on Friday.
  • Despite that solid performance, Zimmermann is 0-1 with a 6.98 ERA in his last five starts after starting the season by winning his first two with a 2.38 ERA.
  • One of his victories, though, came at New York on April 26, when he gave up one run and six hits in 5 1-3 innings of an 8-1 win
  • A Florida man at the center of a massive steroid bust has told law enforcement officials that he sold performance-enhancing drugs to pro athletes, including those on the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals.(Dont wanna start anything but this cant be good)

killer-instinct-snes-cover-front

Yet another opportunity for the Mets to work on that killer instict. The Mets have swept both mini series (2 games) against the Braves and Phillies, they also have a 3 game sweep against the Pirates. With over 40 million dollars on the DL the Mets managed to put up 6 runs over the Nationals yesterday. Tonight the Nationals have to contend with the great Johan Santana (somebody give Manny Acta a Flask with the hard stuff). Good teams are able to  close the door and beat the teams they are supposed to beat. The Mets could not have selected a better guy to go out there to do just that. LGM!!

I remember that game with that Ray Knight brawl….
He might have hated cursing, but don’t mess with Knight.

  13. metsfan4decades

Took a look at Beerleaguer – see what they were saying about Myers performance tonight. You know what? They’ve got about 80 comments on their game thread. We’re approaching 250. Not only is this a great site to participate in, I really do believe that many of those Phills fans are true ‘fair weather’ fans…
Just not as passionate about their team as we are.

    1. dirtysanchez

lol you never even heard about a phillies fan up until 2 or 3 years ago….

  19. fongy2

    Help! wtf happened here?
Had to attend to wedding related stuff. When I left it was 3-0 and
    Johan was sailing along.
    What happened here??

    1. dirtysanchez

adam dunn CRUSHED a 2 run homer off santana and then johan proceeded to walk the ball club(imo some of it had to do with the ump)

      1. dwrightisking

I was gonna say santana channeled ollie in the 4th but I guess your explanation is more accuate :)

        1. dirtysanchez

lol NOOOOBODY wants to channel ollie ;p

      2. fongy2

        6 BBs?
        Did Ollie steal Santanas jersey?
        Thats a months worth
        for Johan.

        1. dirtysanchez

imo the ump squeezed him pretty hard…

  20. dirtysanchez

  23. QnsNative718

Mets get a run in the next frame, Santana qualifies for the win. Go get it for him, boys!

    1. dirtysanchez

agreed…shef needs to channel another HR ;p

    2. metsfan4decades

Agreed. They owe him for all the low scoring, shoddy defense games.

  24. dirtysanchez

we need to knock this kid out NOW!

  25. QnsNative718

Thats the word I was looking for when describing Santana’s outing… “Odd.” Thanks, Gary.

  26. dirtysanchez

walk gary….shocker. Didnt see that coming…

  27. dirtysanchez

    cmon murph…we need one here..

  28. QnsNative718

Kip Wells. Wow. Remember when he was the “ace” of the Pirates? Now he’s a reliever for the worst bullpen in the league.

    1. dirtysanchez

lets hope it stays that way for when they come in ;p

  29. QnsNative718

    Murphy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. dwrightisking

    ok what just happened

    1. dirtysanchez

ball hit the upper deck…problem is the upper deck hangs over the field, so the ball comes straight down “in play”

  31. metsfan4decades

    REVIEW !!

  32. saltygary

WTF CMON 5 dollar foot long.

    1. dwrightisking

    1. dirtysanchez

we should…if not its on the architect of citifield

    2. saltygary

Yea I dont think it hit the sign.

      1. dirtysanchez

that ball came straight down..it hit the upper deck..imo

    3. fongy2

      Good thing we didnt sign
      Adam Dunn! what a bum!

  35. dwrightisking

hopefully sny isn’t on where the umps are

  36. metsfan4decades

Well, if you listen to Gary and Ron, from one angle they showed – they’re saying the ball on the fly, appeared to have changed angle to the right out there after it hit the subway sign. Said it’s real hard to tell….

  37. saltygary

What I want to know is if any ump ruled the HR that could of caused Sheff to slow down.

  38. dwrightisking

    yeahhhhh!!!!

  39. QnsNative718

The way it came down though would tell you it was a hr though. At the same time, no fans made a play for the ball.

  40. metsfan4decades

    YES !!!!!!! 4 for 4.

  41. QnsNative718

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. dirtysanchez

    6 FOR 6 baby

    1. metsfan4decades

      Ha! I stand corrected.

      1. QnsNative718

        No I think its 4.

        1. metsfan4decades

I thought it was 4 too. No matter – they’ve all went our way!

    2. dirtysanchez

      or 5 for 5 rather

      1. CaseStreet

        think it’s 5 for 5

  43. CaseStreet

    gotta love instant replay

  44. saltygary

Wow I think they got it wrong, but Ill take it. Ron and Gary’s analysis of the fans not reacting was a good indication.

    1. QnsNative718

      Im with you on that.

    2. metsfan4decades

Umps obviously had an angle we weren’t privy to.

      1. QnsNative718

I dont think so. They see what we see.

        1. metsfan4decades

Gary and Ron said they’ve got more camera angles available to the umps than what’s shown on air.

    3. dirtysanchez

well dunn stopped and thought it was a HR
the ball fell straight down so it definalty hit something..if that deck isnt there its out for sure. Its just a weird dimension in citi…

      1. QnsNative718

        Word.

  45. dentulous

OMG What is the score. u people are killing me…

    1. dirtysanchez

    2. dentulous

      ok 5-3 Mets

    3. trs86

      5-3 now.

    4. fongy2

This is why the mlb package
      still stinks! I’m blacked out
      despite being in neither the
      nyc or dc tv market.

      1. saltygary

How are you blacked out. I live in NH and am getting it on channel 639 on DTV, what about you?

        1. fongy2

          No pal, I’ve got comcast
          and in south-
          central pa.,
          I’m blacked out
          of philly,pitt&
          d.c. markets
          despite the fact that even
with the top-tier cable package I only
get most of the philly stations and
          a couple pitt
          ones but no d.c.channels.
          mlb has told me
          twice they’re
          “looking into it”

          1. saltygary

Thats a bunch of crap I wonder if there is a difference with carriers. The only time I get blacked out is 1-7pm on Sat due to Fox, or I am forced to watch it on NESN when they play the Sox. If they are on ESPN I can still watch the SNY broadcast. Sorry man.

  46. trs86

LOL, hire the Video Review for manager.

    1. dirtysanchez
