First up are Angel Pagan and Luis Castillo. These guys bat first and second respectively and have been on base 18 times in this series. Angel Pagan went 2 for 4 with one walk and accounting for 2 runs, he is also batting .323. Luis “Slappy” Castillo went 2 for 2 with 3 WALKS tonight and also accounting for 2 runs, he is batting .295. We hear so much about table setters in this game and these two guys are the perfect example of that this series. Good job to get the party started(Vroom Vroom Party Starter…sorry i couldn’t help myself ;p)
Second up Dan “The Man” Murphy. Murphy was in a horrible slump coming into this game but you know what they say, a bloop and a blast is all you need. Mr. Murphy collected 5 RBI’s tonight including a monster shot off Zimmermann that was awarded after the challenge(imo it hit the 5 dollar foot long and fell straight down, the umps got it right). He later brought in two with a double later on in the game just for good measure(late inning runs very important). Murph did commit his first error at 1b(could have been in second) and to be honest…it was only a matter of time but he more than made up for it with the stick. What is it with Krod and the last out at 1b?
Third up is Gary “The Chef” Sheffield. Gary is on FIRE! In this series, Gary has collected 8 RBI’s with 2 HRS and is batting .293. When a team is going through what the Mets are currently experiancing, someone needs to step up. Last year it was Tatis..this year Sheffield(both under rated signings by Omar Minaya). Gary went 1 for 2 with 2 walks (one intentional) tonight and definatly is that pressence the Mets were afraid of missing without Carlos Delgado in the lineup. Keep it up Shef…we smell what you are cookin ;p
Fourth up is Johan Santana. Now he did not have his best stuff tonight. He walked 6 guys today and gave up a MONSTER shot to Adam Dunn. The reason he is getting a MUA is for doing whats called “damage control” and holding down the fort. Santana threw a season high 120 pitches with 11 strike outs and held the Nationals to only 3 runs through 6 innings. I dont know about you guys but thats a quality start in my book. Johan’s ERA has bubbled up to a horrendous 1.77 ;p.
Last up are MLB umpires. Now the Mets have been involved in 5 HR challenges and have won all of them. This HR call is probably the most controversial. For those who didnt see the game, Daniel Murphy CRUSHED a ball off Washington’s ace Zimmermann. The ball appeared to hit the upper deck down the right field side. Now the porch in right field extends unto the field by 8 feet, so when the ball hit the upper deck the ball came straight down. It was hit soo hard the ball rolled back to the corner on the field of play. Adam Dunn threw the ball back into the infield and the Nationals threw out Gary at home. Now the issues here are
- No umpires called a HR
- Adam Dunn did not move when the ball was hit as if to imply he felt it was a HR
- The ball ricocheted to the back corner and appeared to not have hit anything but rather just a liner that got over Dunns head
You will have to see a replay to make your own opinion on that call but Manuel threw his challenge flag for the 5th time and won each one. While this may be controversial, you cannot deny that the Mets at this juncture need every break they can get. So the umps get the MUA for using Instant Replay to make the best call they can make.

ha, bet they wont update it till next week. Lazy as hell. That was one of my biggest gripes. How can it be a “grand central station” for mets info, when the standings aren’t even updated…

has to go to the umpires. unless they saw something we didn’t, there was no concrete evidence to overturn that call. but hey i wont complain.
