After finding out his 127 pitches were the most pitches thrown by a Mets starter since his brother El Duque did it for the Mets in 2007 when he threw 130 pitches, Livan later said if he had known that, he would have walked the last batter so he could break his brothers mark.

Hey Dirty, I don’t have the creativity to do this post everyday but I think it would be a good idea.

I’m starting to really like Livan. Cool, calm, consummate professional. Knows how to make his pitches work even though he doesn’t throw hard. And with a sense of humor to boot.
I’m pulling for Livan to go all the way for us as our #5 – or heck, if he keeps this up, #4.

Livan’s comment reminded me of a Dizzy Dean quote I once read. I went over to BaseballLibrary.com and found this:
“When Paul (Dean) joined his famous brother Dizzy on the Cardinals’ pitching staff, Dizzy predicted, “Me ‘n Paul will win 45 games.” They won 49, 19 by Paul, and put the Cards in the World Series, where they each won 2 more. During the September pennant drive, Dizzy shut out the Dodgers on three hits in the first game of a double-header; Paul pitched a no-hitter in the nightcap. “I wished I’da known Paul was goin’ to pitch a no-hitter,” Dizzy said. “I’da pitched one, too.”"
