Welcome to all!

Just wanted to extend a big welcome to all the new users as of today.  Our point in starting this site was just to give many fans what they wanted, a place to speak freely and enjoy their time. It was never in any way a point of competing with or taking anything away from other blogs out there.

For anyone new, we currently have the site you are on http://realdirtymets.com, a forum at http://www.nleastchatter.com/forum where anyone can start any conversation they wish, about any NL East team, or MLB team for that matter.  Also, check out the homepage at http://www.nleastchatter.com which will be the landing page for all things NL East as we continue on.  We are also looking for blogs to migrate to us for the other NL East teams, or to start new blogs.

So, spread the word to other fans, not just of the Mets, but of any NL East team, and lets see what we can get started here.

Hi all. Glad to see you all again. Eff Mattsblog.com!

    1. GravediggerHebner

      Stellar pic bro!

      1. wannybackstra

Jerry might talk about being a gangsta manager but Wally could have been the real thing!

        1. kingman26

Oh yeah….when Teufel eventually replaces Jerry, he will surely hire his platoon partner as a coach, and then Wally will eventually be a MLB manager.

Great to see you here Wanny!

          1. wannybackstra

            Same to you Kong.

And should I worry now that both halves of my Wanny Backstra moniker are criminals?

  4. DNDJohan aka kistics

    Awesome!

  5. billydeewilliams

Any time I try to go back over there, I keep realizing that I spent more time reading the comments section than the actual posts…which makes it kinda useless heading back over there.

    1. wannybackstra

The posts are fine if you like Mike Nichols’s daily lineup of misinformation or Matt’s schizophrenic rantings and insecurity.

      1. sheyheykid

Nichols and Regis were very talented. It’s really hard posting those link blogs where they only pimped their friends sites. And give them credit for almost always getting the lineup right.

        1. kingman26

          LOL!

Did you see Nichols’ Monday pregame post? He had a one sentence intro, which had the Nats’ overall record wrong, the Nats’ home record wrong (they were playing on the road anyway), the Mets’ road record wrong (they were at home) and he misspelled Nationals.

He had Beltran DHing in an NL game and no one playing center.

I mean, this is not even comical, this is beyond pathetic. Those mistakes were really all there.

          1. wannybackstra

There were so many apparent copy & paste errors. Is it too difficult to type out 18 names and one or two letter position codes? Or if he was going to copy and paste, how long would it have taken to proofread 18 names plus two letters?

How do I get the picture next to my name??

“So, I am now working to create a parallel space on MetsBlog.com that can serve as a more relaxed, open environment for fans to vent, discuss topics and exchange ideas among themselves, while returning the official comment section to a special location where only a trusted group of readers can respond to one another, me and the topic at hand.”

    Where’s your “trusted readers” NOW!

    1. trs86

Agree, Matt this is your more relaxed, open environment for fans to vent, discuss topics and exchange ideas among themselves. We beat you to it.

  9. DNDJohan aka kistics

So… what’s been the hottest topic today? I’m really excited for our pitching staff… they are carrying the team when offense desperately needs them.

    1. dirtysanchez

we have had several..ranging from how proud we are of our team that we are still fighting with over 40 million dollars on the DL to food time porn…lol. Take your pick ;p

    2. trs86

The fact that our blog is exploding with intelligent Mets fans. That and the Peavy idea, but we strayed off topic so the blog will now self destruct and you will never be able to post correctly again.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

And who are your ‘trusted 50′ posters??

    3. wannybackstra

I think we all knew at the beginning of the season that Pelfrey and Maine would get their acts together and that Livan would be serviceable (and he’s actually been better than that as his ERA is inflated by his few poor outings).

The real key now is to get Ollie’s head screwed on straight and hope the positin players get healthy.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Livan has been a very pleasant surprise. I knew he would give you decent numbers, but he’s been great in some of his outings. I think younger teams have hard time with him, just because Livan can be so tricky at times. That’s why he’s been great against the Nats and Marlins (?)

        1. wannybackstra

Great point. He feasts on young aggressive teams by getting them to chase after the junk he throws and by keeping them off balance with his changes of speed (slow to slower to sloooooowest).

I was surprised that the Giants smacked him around pretty well but I suppose he may not have been locating very well.

  10. sabermetrician

    Is my gravatar up yet?

    1. dentulous

      nope

      1. mrose

        now it is.

  11. wannybackstra

I have to say that I never would have predicted the Mets would play competently (let alone in Boston) with the likes of Pagan, Santos and Martinez all in the same lineup.

That said, with a lineup like this the Mets need to pile on runs whenever they have the opportunity and I better not see (I actually heard) Luis Castillo attempting to bunt a runner to third with no one out — especially when he is batting from the left side.

    1. There's Always '10

i didn’t have a problem with the bunting play from castillo. we better not see that from beltran or anyone else that can hit the ball out of the infield though.

      1. wannybackstra

Granted Castillo can’t hit the ball out of the infield but he could accomplish the same result by hitting the ball to the left side, with at least a chance that it might get through for a hit.

        1. trs86

Agreed, his hitting skills and contact ability should lend itself to just punching it to move the runner over if needed.

          1. There's Always '10

or hittinga fly ball to 2nd base.

          2. wannybackstra

            He can’t reach 2nd on a fly!

    2. dentulous

yes, I thought Boston was going to be nasty for us. If our pitching and Sheff keep it up, we should have no trouble with the Nats and Bucs

    3. trs86

Wanny, great point. I still wonder if Castillo should be leading off.
Also, I have been comparing this team to the 2000 team. If you look there are a lot of similarities.

      1. wannybackstra

Without looking, I’d say the obvious similarity is the relative lack of power from the outfield (okay, the 2000 team had an utter lack of power — which again will lead m e to praise Bobby V.). But thankfully, Old Man Sheff is changing that.

With Reyes out, Castillo should be leading off without a doubt. I still prefer Jose to leadoff when he is healthy, though, I wouldn’t really make an issue out of it if Castillo led off and Jose batted 2nd or 3rd.

      2. GravediggerHebner

I think if Reed plays center instead of Pagan while Reyes is out, Castillo should definitely lead off.

    4. metsfan4decades

It’s all going to come down to pitching over the next several weeks as we wait for most to get back and healthy again. We keep the opposition off the board, for the most part, we’ll have a good shot at Ws – especially with the schedule.

And if we can do that – how much better will it be come – say August – when hopefully everyone is back?

And a big Welcome to all who joined this great blog today.

  12. sabermetrician

Did DownNDirtyJohan come over to this site? What about enterkrod? We need those two.

    1. GravediggerHebner

DND is here, haven’t seen enterkrod or VC (yet).

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

I’m here! Thanks for looking after me!

      1. kingman26

        Welcome!!

    3. metsfan4decades

Yes, for DownNDirtyJohan – see the Peavy post. He posted over there as:
      DNDJohan aka kistics….

    4. DNDJohan aka kistics

      Alex anyone?? LOL

      1. trs86

Not in a long time, even before the ole blog crapped out.

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Yeah.. maybe he realized that he’s a Philly fan after all

          1. trs86

Kind of hard to keep up the anti-wright slogan right now.

          2. wannybackstra

Wright has been utterly ridiculous in May. Even the Mattsblog.com trolls were quieted until he shut us all down. It was not surprising that Alex, Slappy and gang were not around.

  13. sabermetrician

    VCarver is good too.

    1. trs86

Yup, he’s an oldie too. Still looking for Rusty as well.

      1. CaseStreet

def need Rusty and his This Day in Mets History!

  14. GravediggerHebner

darkstar73 would be quite a coup

    1. trs86

Oh yeah grave. There were so many great ones that I keep leaving them out.

      1. kingman26

        How bout ravi3 and mark9268?

        1. trs86

          not yet.

          1. fongy2

            Anyone
            else get
            the feeling
            M.C.
            finally
            wrecked
            himself?

          2. trs86

I don’t think he understands the power of the commenter.

          3. GravediggerHebner

It’s possible, but with the power of SNY and Verizon and whoever else is pumping money into that juggernaut, it’ll be like that aircraft carrier in WWII that the Japanese thought they’d sunk only to find themselves being attacked by it days later (Enterprise?).

    2. metsfan4decades

I believe I saw darkstar73 on amazin avenue last night. Only one comment though and he was gone.

  15. metsgirl31

Does this blog have an in-game comments section? Even though I never posted on the other site it was still nice knowing there were other Met fans feeling the same way I was.

    1. trs86

Oh yeah, Dirtysanchez is famous for his game threads.
