Damn. I just read an biography of Casey’s life. That book was filled with all kinds of Casey stories and Stengelese. Just sent it back to the online library I belong to so don’t have it anymore.

He really was one smart baseball man – regardless of some who regarded him as some sort of clown. I think he only got that tag after agreeing to manage the hapless 1962 Mets….

        1. fongy2

          Yeah, earlier

Have you guys seen the ‘Todays Braves Girl’ on the BravesBaseballBlog? Wowser. We need a ‘Today’s Mets’ Girl’.

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

yeah! Mets should have someone like that roaming around the Citifield!

  5. GravediggerHebner

When I saw “Falco” as a link, I was thinking what the hell does the Der Kommissar guy have to do with the Braves?

    1. fongy2

      Well TBS was a superstation

    2. wannybackstra

I thought it was another photo of Edie Falco in her nurse costume.

      1. wannybackstra

I should add that Edie looks rather MILF like in that nurse outfit.

        1. fongy2

          Pretty sick dude.
          Especially
          since THATS

          4. kingman26

OK, I will admit one thing–I saw Sophia Loren in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in the 1990s, and she had to be nearly 60, and I was maybe 50 feet away, and she looked amazing!

And Raquel Welch sure did still look good when she guested on Seinfeld.

To paraphrase what Ophelia said to Winthorp in Trading Places, “Comes from a life of avoiding hard work!”

          5. sabermetrician

Kingman, I might have you beat.

          6. GravediggerHebner

Kingman and I are the same age. You can’t be older than us and be a sabermetrician, that would be like a 90 year old American that uses the litres and kilometres.

          7. kingman26

LOL! I am a youthful 42….and I do live by the wisdom once spouted by I think Phils announcer Larry Anderson, who I think once said “You are only young once, but you can be immature forever.”

  6. rustyjr

LOL where’s tons the mets girl when u need here? Also zoe but I don’t know her allegance to matt

Oh, you guys are so bad – LOL.

Come on. Being female, I know NY Met girls can beat the pants off of Braves Girls.
      Just have to find them.

      1. GravediggerHebner

I like the way you phrased that 8)

          1. metsgirl31

Hi…I was over on the other site always reading comments but always felt too intimidated to comment but this site has a better vibe.

          2. There's Always '10

yea, this site is like metsblog on “E”. and not even E-7, murph.

          3. GravediggerHebner

He’s known as E-3 these days.

          4. There's Always '10

Something tells me this isn’t his last stop. He’s going to be one of those fantasy players with (1B,2B,OF,Util) next to his name. Let’s just make it easy on ourselves and call him Murph-E.

      3. DNDJohan aka kistics

You are a female? A die-hard Mets girl on Mets blog… that’s hot! I wish my wife would do that too and she’d be perfect! (Not that she’s not perfect now….)

        1. metsfan4decades

What a guy. Nicely done on the comment about your wife. I’ll bet she’s lucky to have you.

Yup, die hard Met fan forever. Saw my first game at Shea in 1968. Credit my Dad who is a life long Yankee hater, long time Brooklyn Dodger fan and Met fan since 1962.

          LGM !!

  10. metsfan4decades

Ha! Love the pic of Cerrano.
Speaking of funny, the chuckle of the day yesterday, definitely belongs to Zambrano. What a rant. And the funniest part was Lou P. telling the media that Zambrano needed to tone it down. Really Lou? Isn’t that a bit like the pot calling the kettle black? hahahahahaha.

Btw did anyone see matts new motto ” the grand central station of mets info” – give me a fcuking break !

    1. There's Always '10

Speaking of copyright infringement, I think French Connection U.K. might be coming after you.

    2. fongy2

      Yeah, full of lost tourists

        Lmfao great analogy

    Matt-bashing comment of the afternoon:

Is it me, or does Matt shop at the same store as Jon Miller? Miller shops at the “everything yellow except for the shirt collar store” and Matt shops at the blue shirt, kakhi pants store.

    1. QnsNative718

Matt also follows the madatory “sleeve rollup” policy.

      1. fongy2

        With those arms he
        should roll them down.
        Zinggg!!!

        1. There's Always '10

Two tickets to the, um, spaghetti show.

          1. QnsNative718

            lol, nice, guys.

          2. There's Always '10

I was also reading on Mattsblog about a game tonight. Who is playing? St. Lucie vs. Fort Myers?

  15. There's Always '10

There’s about as many Braves fans here as any given weekend at “The Ted”

    1. QnsNative718

Or at a ’90s playoff game.

      1. fongy2

        Good ones! Both!

  16. stickguy

hello people. The dog was tired of hearing my Met comments.

    1. fongy2

        Hail stickguy !!!

    2. GravediggerHebner

      Yay! Stickguy, welcome!

    3. There's Always '10

look who decides to join the bandwagon!

    4. sabermetrician

Stickguy! It’s about time. We have almost all of the cool people here now. We need gina and VCarver still, but we’re not too far off.

    5. QnsNative718

      Welcome!!!

    6. dirtysanchez

HEY stick..glad you can make it bro

    7. trs86

      The Stick has arrived. Welcome.

  17. mrose

we now have an mlb scoreboard on the left :)

    1. GravediggerHebner

Nice. Accurate standings and schedules, open comment sections with reply buttons. What will the hot orange ball that moves across the sky give to us next?

    2. jonnyballgame

nice Mrose, now this is officially the only place I need to be during the game

  18. GravediggerHebner

OK this is my last one.

Step one in the evolution of a Braves fan:

  19. DNDJohan aka kistics

It looks like they are skipping Redding on Sat and going to Maine. Why is that? Maybe they feel Maine is a better match with Josh Johnson

    1. wannybackstra

The way Johnson pitches against the Mets, I don’t have faith in any one other than Johan against him.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I think Maine would be okay against the Marlin’s offense. It’s just a matter of Mets offense getting to Johnson. I’d be happy with tied game into 6th or 7th and it’s the battle of Bullpen.

        1. mrose

Maine usually has great starts against the fish

  20. DNDJohan aka kistics

I think Marlins this weekend is no give-me. Injured Mets offense versus Josh Johnson and Volstad… That’s going to be a tough task. I’m assuming that Redding may go on Sunday or it maybe Livan on Sunday…

  21. mrose

MC has put the comments section back supposedly…and he gave a bit of a small tongue lashing to some of us

    1. GravediggerHebner

      Some of “us?”

      1. mrose

well talked about how he deleted some people on purpose..then said to read his comments policy, so curiously, i did… i did nothing wrong according to his policy

        1. kingman26

Yeah, same here. He is utterly full of it.

The other day, he deleted comments from pretty much all of us over here…My comments which were deleted said “Test.”

I am done with that site, unless the fine proprietors here want to promote THIS place over there….

          1. rustyjr

Agreed – it’s a shell of what it used to
            Be

        2. GravediggerHebner

Well I would hope that anyone that was deleted was deleted on purpose. In my 2 1/2 years of participating it seemed that periodically the comments section policy would be referred to in a thread, usually in my opinion after a particularly nasty flame war between posters who not only completely got off topic but basically degenerated into just calling each other every name they could slip through the censors. I was not aware that that had occurred recently, but I should add that since the first day you pointed out “ish” to me I left and have never been back.

          1. mrose

“For now, all new-user comments will immediately go in to moderation, much like is done on Deadspin, and other highly-trafficked blogs. There, comments will be reviewed before determining whether the new user will be allowed to join the MetsBlog community.”

            ugh
“for more fan interaction, log onto metsblog”

            what a crock

          2. rustyjr

Safe to say I wouldn’t be welcomed back LOL

          3. mrose

i just wish there was a way to rescue the other good commenters..but without just flat out saying “COME HERE!”
i keep looking for names with a website attached that i can click on.

          4. wannybackstra

i just tried to log in but couldn’t. strange… i had nothing to do with promoting this site over on Mattsblog.com (yet) and have hardly even visited since the comments section went down.

the only interaction I had with mattsblog was an email I sent to matt following his announcement that he would be putting up a special comments section. of course, he did not respond.

          5. kingman26

Wanny–did you try to re-register with a different name/email address? I think he deleted ALL old info.

If you did and cannot get on, my guess would be it is because he has seen you over here and banned your IP…pretty sure he did that to me.

          6. wannybackstra

I’m in and I tried to extend a less than obvious invitation to Sylar but I am awaiting moderation and will likely soon be whacked.

  22. mrose

like right now, prismo is there…we need to snatch him up

    1. rustyjr

Yeah also dominicanboy and gipper also gotta find points guy and kickedinthemetsticles

    2. GravediggerHebner

Yeah, he could be the Real Dirty Met eorologist.

      1. mrose

see but there in lies the problem…how do we get them?

    3. GravediggerHebner

Forgive my ignorance, but just how did all these old friends find us in the last two days?

      1. mrose

one post was made on some sort of mlb message board… trs did a very fair post on metsblog basically saying that if matt kept having problems people could come here…
and it hink thats it..someone else mentioned a facebook group?

        1. saltygary

There’s only 4 people in the antil Cerrone group, but if your on facebook it’s funny to join. I just posted a link to this site.

          http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/group.php?gid=76525832421

      2. GravediggerHebner

I don’t know what the hell I would be doing if I hadn’t happened to have been logged in the moment you posted the “ish” link, because I rarely read through old threads. I would have been adrift at sea.

        1. mrose

exactly..anyone got a blogspot account? maybe see if we can get in touch with http://toastedjoe.blogspot.com/ and see if he’ll add us to the blogroll..he has a nice readership

          1. dirtysanchez

lol that might compromise his relationship with matt ;p

        2. rustyjr

          Kong found
          Me on myspace

          1. kingman26

            Glad I did!

          2. GravediggerHebner

Yeah, glad you did. IMO first positive contribution to society for myspace.

          3. rustyjr

            LOL

    4. kingman26

Sylar is over there now…he is definitely a fine troll/idiot fighter!

    5. dirtysanchez

prismo is in my fantasy baseball league..i emailed him just now(and the league ;p)

      1. GravediggerHebner

        Well done.

  23. rustyjr

I read matts comment section post – damn he’s turned into napoleon – he seems very full of himself and touting how ” traffic” hasn’t decreased

  24. wannybackstra

I think Matt’s referring his readers to the Mattsblog.com traffic stats is a pretty clear indication that he has some concern.

Why, other than for the sake of promoting himself as usual, would he refer his readers to the site stats and try to justify his lack of a comments section?

    1. dirtysanchez

lol yea i think we are getting to him….
what gets me wanny is it SOOO did not need to get this far….yet he still is unwilling to grow up. I dont get it wanny..how could you be soo childish and a grown man.

      1. wannybackstra

It’s easy for me! But for a guy trying to run a business that relies, in part, on loyal readership it just doesn’t make any sense.

    2. kingman26

Personally, I think that is targeted over here. I mean, look at who is here…..Most of Matt’s most loyal, frequent, and in many cases other than my own, most intelligent and best posters.

He HAS to know what is going on, and my guess is that he is both banning as many of us as he can, not mentioning us on his sidebar of every other Mets site, and letting us know he can do just fine without us.

      1. dirtysanchez

agreed king..i know real tried to make peace with matt and wanted him to just add him to his blog roll and he refused. Its just a slap in the face imo to all of us who did NOTHING wrong….i mean he says he misses the feedback…we gave him feedback and it was nothing negative…we just asked for the comments to have a different format. I really cant believe how he is acting and i am so disappointed in him…like for real. I thought he was a better man than that…i guess i was wrong.

        1. kingman26

Completely agreed…this whole entire thing started when he changed the comments again and again, and the most recent time, half the thread would often be people just basically begging him to put the “reply” button back, or to just simply address the issue, and he utterly refused.

I firmly and totally believe at this point that while folks who posted a lot were hugely important to him 2–4 years ago, they mean zero now. He has major corporate sponsorship and is promoted every day on SNY, so he can blow us off, be as sloppy as he wants, have Nichols write posts with two sentences and six mistakes, and STILL get massive hits.

It is a shame, but now that it is his job, and he is obviously secure (for now) he could care less about the folks who, 2–4 years ago, made up a significant percentage of his readership and site hits.

          1. dirtysanchez

agreed. He gets paid for hits not comments so im sure the fact that we offered a comment section while he shut his down caused him to loose a bit of traffic. Why else would he mention that traffic has not been lost. It just boggles my mind king…we get banished for a simple request yet he wants us to give him feedback. Again i thought matt was a better man than that but i guess i was wrong

          2. oleosmirf

the problem is Metsblog.com is now first and foremost a business. having people like us disagreeing or questioning him is bad for business…

      2. GravediggerHebner

He certainly can. And with frequent television commercials promoting the site, I doubt there will be more than a temporary drop in “traffic.”

What cracks me up is the commercial says “for the latest stats…”

        1. dirtysanchez

what cracks me up is “i miss the feedback”

  25. kingman26

Ceetar is over there–wasn’t he over here earlier?? His comment got posted just now….

    1. dirtysanchez

guess he is in matts “50″

    2. GravediggerHebner

He wants as wide an audience as possible for his pro-Willie, anti-Jerry posts. Unless/until we can provide him with some huge page view numbers, he’ll keep his wings spread. Doesn’t he have some position of importance with hotfoot? I thought I remember him coming into threads to promote during game chats there.

  26. trs86

Why is it that although we did not start this as a competiion at all, it pisses me off that so many are over there singing his praises for just turning the damn comment section back on?

    1. GravediggerHebner

Allow me a moment of amateur analysis: because while a large part of you simply wants to have an open community of people able to freely discuss and reply on topics of their choosing within a framework of Met (and NL East) fandom, a small part of you wants to destroy him.

      1. kingman26

Oh, I want this place to succeed first and foremost; it is fun, and already seriously more professional and interesting than Metsblog.

But after giving Cerrone countless hits for years, and being utterly blown off and banned for nothing, I definitely want to see his site lose readership. Destroy is a harsh word, but I definitely would love to see his smug and totally mediocre attitude take a huge fall.

        1. GravediggerHebner

I hear you and to a large extent I agree with you but try to imagine the tornado around him. If that story about it being started as a “college project” is true, I would tend to doubt that corporate sponsorship and flagship network partnership were even on the radar at the beginning. I would guess that it blew up beyond wildest imagination and that it’s like a bucking bronco that is out of control and he is just trying to hang on.

        2. trs86

I know what you mean, all I did was post over there for 4 damn years.

      2. kingman26

For example, maybe Rusty would like to meet me at the next MetsBlog meet and greet, and we can be very polite, and give handbills to every single person promoting this site??

        1. GravediggerHebner

In that vein, when I go to Mets games afterward when I return to the parking lot there is often something stuffed under my windshield wiper or into my drivers side window. Usually I at least look at them before throwing them away. I wonder if there is any merit in going to Citi parking lots and putting fliers on cars.

          1. trs86

            Now THATS a great idea.

          2. GravediggerHebner

I’m much closer than you are geographically, but I am still 80 miles away and have no tickets to future games currently, so I’m likely just an idea man on this concept.

          3. wannybackstra

the danger in overpromoting the site is that you attract the same types of clowns that mattsblog.com has in its comment section.

          4. GravediggerHebner

Very good point. This place did basically quadruple in one 24 hour period, and in a good way, without that stuff.

          5. rustyjr

Sure !! I’ll make f-metsblog jersey or the I was banned from metsblog and all I got was this lousy t-shirt shirt

    2. dirtysanchez

because they have no where else to turn and they are at matts mercy to turn on/off the comment section…

    3. wannybackstra

how is everyone able to post there while I am awaiting moderation?

      1. kingman26

Probably because he banned your IP address.

        1. wannybackstra

And I don’t see what is so different about his comments section that required weeks’ worth of effort to rebuild.

          1. kingman26

Nothing; he is a big fat liar. He is doing two things:

            A) Seeing if the anti-Mets Blog comments complainign about the site continue

            and more importantly

            B) Testing to see if his hits go down without comments.

Guys, sorry but I am out for the night—please carry on!

Viva La Resistance, as QnsNative might say!

      2. saltygary

I can’t. My ID got deleted. I re-added it but it doesn’t work. I rarely ever commented on the site and never had anything bad to say. I complained about the comments section but wasn’t a jerk about it. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone made there way over here to cross reference names to block them.

  27. jonnyballgame

banned ip…. just change your mac address and it will change your ip address. there is free software that does it with one click. Then just restart your computer. restart your router and modem and register for Metsblog with a new email and name.

    1. jonnyballgame

that is if you really want to post on that board.

  28. dentulous

pls, of course he lost hits, thats why he put back comments and the reply function. Gimme a break, he is full of crap.

    1. mrose

yup and the “overwhelmingly positive response to what i’m doing” really?? thats such BS..how many “WHY AREN’T THE COMMENTS ON? emails did he get?

    2. saltygary

You don’t say “interestingly I didn’t loose any hits” when you didn’t lose hits. I feel like he is getting into a pissing match with a bunch of us that just want to have a better environment to talk baseball.

      1. mrose

on the other hand, if someone does some sort of kamakazi mission to tell people about our blog, 1 of 2 things happen
        a) he banned the words nleastchatter.com
        b) he shiuts comments down

        1. dirtysanchez

well if B happens thats better for us..

      2. wannybackstra

There’s no reason for him to discuss his Web site hits with his readers. He might as well have said “I could care less what any of you say or think as long as you keep coming to my crappy site. And now, Watch: Me Twittering from Promenade Mens Room, Stall 2.”

    3. jonnyballgame

All I know is that Matt is responsible for the level of chaos that board produced. His posts were designed to create fan reaction in a negative way. Thus creating a comment section that was negative. Like I said before. He used us, to get traffic, get a good job, then dumped his most faithful followers.

  29. rustyjr

    petty on his part

  30. prismo

Well well well. Looks like someone is trying to replace Metsblog and I’m a little late to the party! My bad. ;)

    1. dirtysanchez

LOL HEY PRISMO! That was fast ;p

      1. prismo

Haha, thanks for sending me that email. I hate being out of the loop!

        1. rustyjr

prismo !!! welcome my meteorologist friend !!

    2. dentulous

      better late than never!

    3. GravediggerHebner

      Awesome!

    4. metsfan4decades

Prismo is on board. Welcome !!

  31. dentulous

Lets be honest, all of us are die hard mets fans, and we were probably responsible for thousands of hits a day visiting the site and posting. Who the hell is he kidding….. He also probably put the reply function back hoping to lure people back.

Ill just put out this kind request, that as of today, we all stop going back for good. If we must know what he is up to, we can designate a person to go and spy.

At this point with his childish ways, I would hate for anyone to support his site in anyway by visiting it. What a tool!

  32. rustyjr

Add me to the banned list gogomets is on there as is metsfreak jimmyagar ceetar prismo foulbintstrikeout and toastyjoe

  33. rustyjr

Hey let’s not forget the no posts for the entire weekend during the hotstove!!!

  34. jonnyballgame

I was a fan of NYcuban.. any word from him?

  35. wannybackstra

Someone pointed out potentially unfavorable pitching matchups vs. Florida this weekend. It certainly seems that the team is primed for a set back given the up and down nature of the season so far and the fact that eventually a lineup with so many AAAA players will eventually fail.

But hopefully the return of Beltran to the lineup provides another spark.

  36. dentulous

Hey, did you guys see this yet?

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/05/brett-myers-may-need-hip-surgery.html

wonder who they get to replace him.

    1. prismo

Could be Kendrick in the short-term. They may trade for someone like Penny…I highly doubt Peavy is a realistic option.

      1. wannybackstra

Penny sounds like a reasonable and attainable solution.

I would love for the Mets to face Penny in Citizens Bank, by the way. His 5-13 and 6.38 ERA career numbers against the Mets don’t figure to get any better pitching in Philly! Those numbers were while pitching in pitchers’ paradises like Shea, Chavez-Ravine and Pro Player!

  37. prismo

So how can I become an author? What’s the standard procedure?

    1. GravediggerHebner

So far it’s pretty much been “just ask.” How the hell do you think I became one?

TRS86, DirtySanchez and MRose are the dudes who can wave the magic wand and make it happen, so be sure to tell them what great posts they’ve written 8)

      1. rustyjr

hebner i did my post for today how do i know if u guys received it?

        1. GravediggerHebner

          It’s up right now.

    2. mrose

i don’t think there is a procedure yet

also, glad you found your way over

      1. prismo

I’m glad too! It’s all thanks to dirty’s email he sent to me.

So yeah, I’d like to become an author. For the most part, I’d like to be able to give my (professional) weather forecast for each game. Maybe this way they wouldn’t get lost in the comments like on another popular Mets blog… ;) I’d probably make the occasional Mets-related post as well. Let me know – my email is prismofillusion(at)gmail(dot)com

  38. oleosmirf

all comments are moderated to make sure people (us) aren’t saying anything bad about him.

    Big Brother is Watching

    1. dirtysanchez

      aka the blog gestapo ;p

      1. oleosmirf

well i left a comment saying that Murphy is the greatest player ever so the gestapo should let me in…

        1. rustyjr

lol oleo did u compliment matt on his “fact checking skills”?

          1. oleosmirf

lol no i left the brown-nosing to the other folks….

          2. rustyjr

            ha

  39. oleosmirf

I decided to read over Matt’s comment policy and he does have 1 valid point. a few of our favorites here do have the tendency to partake in “irrelevant babbling”.

    1. rustyjr

      welcome aboard oleo !!!

      1. oleosmirf

how ya doin Rusty…nice to see you finally get on here…

        1. rustyjr

YEAH kong actually found me at my myspace account – this feels so blues brotherish in a “were getting the band back together” sort of way lol

          1. stickguy

you mean this is a mission from God?

I thought it was so TRS didn’t have to talk baseball with Braves fans!

          2. rustyjr

            rotfl

    2. prismo

But maybe we like irrelevant babbling! (as long as it’s not politics-related…I still think that stuff should be kept off of sports blogs)

      1. oleosmirf

well when you are running a business I can understand why he wants baseball only comments.

  40. wannybackstra

Alex is alive. I hear Jerome from Manhattan talking to Steve Somers right now!

    1. oleosmirf

i havent heard Jerome in years. good to hear he’s still around. He’s my favorite WFAN caller of all time…

      1. rustyjr

I CAN’T STAND HIM I WANT MELKEY OUT OF HERE !!!! I WANT JUAN RIVERA !!!! LOL

        1. GravediggerHebner

I WANT AUSTIN JACKSON HE HITS HOME RUNS!

“Uh, Jerome Austin Jackson has zero home runs.”

          I DON’T CARE I WANT HIM HERE!

          1. rustyjr

he is of sight and no mind … you have entered the jerome zone !

  41. stickguy

If you ever need a couple thousand well thought out, impeccable reasoned, and poorly spelled words on any topic, just let me know.

Brevity in posts was never my strong suit.

And I just got tickets for a game in the OF. 2nd row from the fence, just above the O in Geico. Should be like watching from the old picnic area, only better!

  42. metsfan4decades

I read his post about the comment section over there – couldn’t resist. I cannot believe the level of unprofessional babble he resorted to. Hey, no matter. He honestly did me a favor. I just didn’t realize it until I was out of there for a week and over here. This is just a breath of fresh air – feel like I’ve been lifted out of the doom and gloom.

I wish him luck b/c I think he’s going to need it. It appears to me he’s just making it worse. And now…b/c of the way he’s going to handle ‘approved’ posters, he’s going to have to do the one thing he hated doing – reading his own blog. Ha! Maybe it will dawn on him finally where the problems lie.

Bah…learned a hard lesson years and years ago that has served me well. You cannot change anyone. If they’re causing you stress, you either have to walk away, or change the way YOU deal with them. I choose to walk away.

See how much better that sounds? I choose…
