Rusty! I’ve missed these. You know I always looked forward to them. Being an old time Met fan, it was always fun to see how many of these guys I remembered.

Hey rusty I hope you don’t mind, I made you a category.

      1. rustyjr

no prob how do i access it?

        1. GravediggerHebner

I took the liberty of checking “your” box for you, so now the post says “posted in ‘mets’ and ‘rustyjr’” at the bottom. When you’re in the post making screen, the “category” box is on the right side, a little ways down. Whenever you’re doing a post just check the appropriate box(es) otherwise it says “uncategorized” at the bottom.

          1. rustyjr

i would offer my services as an author but im afraid im only good at ranting and raving…

      1. metsfan4decades

Ha! I too wanted to offer my services when they started this blog but I’m the least creative person you’ve never met so clever writing is not an option.

I’d be happy to serve in some other capacity though.

    3. GravediggerHebner

      Just sent you one

  7. wannybackstra

Rusty’s post reminds me that his namesake has written a book ranking the top 5 mets at each position. I haven’t seen it but the word on the street is that even though he focused on production while in a Mets uniform, Jeff kent somehow ranked higher than Edgardo Alfonzo at 2B for the Mets.

In his three full seasons with the Mets he put up: .284 .334 .469 (he had two other partial seasons that would probably have brought that down slightly) while playing less than 400 games at 2B.

Edgardo hit 292 .367 .445 while playing more than 500 games at 2B (and more than 800 at 3B).

Obviously, Eddie was the better fielder and the better guy and his teams had better success.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Thank you for that because I had no idea that Rusty had written a book. I’m also glad I didn’t just go off my very faulty memory because I would not have even considered Kent to be close to Gardo, and apparently Rusty considers him better. Very interesting. I just did the baseball-reference compare players thing and I don’t see it the way Rusty does.

      1. wannybackstra

I was surprised that the numbers were as close they were for two reasons. I forgot that Kent actually was pretty good while he was here. And Eddie’s peak was so short. But no Met second baseman has ever had seasons like .324 .425 .542, 304 .385 .502 or 308 .391 .459.

    2. oleosmirf

Alfonzo was one of my favorite Mets of all time. Those Mets teams really played the game the right way and accomplished a decent amount with less talent.

If this group of players we have now played the game the right way we’d all be very happy Met fans…

      1. wannybackstra

Those teams were, in part, a reflection of its manager and its much better veteran leadership/character (Leiter, Zeile, Ventura, Olerud, Fonzie, Franco, Reed, etc.

But how Bobby V. doesn’t get enshrined to the Mets HOF after leading an outfield of Jay Payton, Timo Perez and Benny Agbayani to the World Series is beyond me.

  8. GravediggerHebner

    Dodgers playing some small ball.

  9. dwrightisking

hey guys…I just commented at metsblog…I wonder if he’ll delete me now.

    1. dwrightisking

oh, I just noticed the “awaiting moderation”. oh well…I tried

      1. johan4cy

he said on his post that all comments await moderation

  10. johan4cy

Is anyone planning on going back to metsblog now that the comments are up? because im sure not…

    1. wannybackstra

      not even out of curiosity.

      1. rustyjr

Nope I tried to see if I slipped through but I’m on the delta house double secret probation list LOL

  11. metsfan4decades

Listening earlier on SNY to the comments from the analysts trying to drum up some controversy. It was regarding the trading of Reyes. Said the Mets have went 7-3 w/o him so they can win w/o him. Said his sometimes boneheaded plays and running mistakes might be as good as it gets with him so why not try and get back a star pitcher or something in return?

Now…I know some of you had previously went down that path too and to each his own opinion. Mine? I say absolutely no. I still think he can improve on the mental mistakes and he’s one of the best lead off hitters and shortstops in the game today. I know pitching trumps position players but you trade Reyes, we’re going to have to settle for mediocre at SS for awhile. Aren’t we trying to build a good, young team? So why trade him?

    1. wannybackstra

      Agreed.

And does beating Washington prove anything?

Not to mention that one win against Boston (Santos homering off of Papelbon) could be written off as a fluke.

    2. saltygary

At the start of the season I was for breaking up the main core primarily because they have not proven they couldn’t win. Of the 4 Reyes would be the best person to trade due to his contact and what we could get for him. Wright speaks English better so he handles the media better, Delgado is old and Beltran makes a lot of money and is just too solid of a player.

At this point there is no way Reyes should be traded with Delgado out and Beltran banged up not to mention Reyes banged up. If there is another late season collapse there needs to be a chemistry shake up because it is not the talent that blew those final games.

  12. mrose

not sure anyone noticed..but were listed on the blogroll now…we hit a new high in users just now

    1. Mr North Jersey

Great! I’m embarresed to ask but Where can I see this list?

      :-)

      1. mrose

the user list or blog roll? blog roll at metsblog
the userlist, if you go to the http://www.nleastchatter.com/forum , on the main index page you will see at the bottom the users online

        1. GravediggerHebner

Holy crap! He put us on his blog roll? Holy crap!

(say it in Peter Griffin’s voice, it’s better that way)

      2. wannybackstra

just look at his newest message. and then delete mattsblog.com from your cache for good.

    2. wannybackstra

My post that was awaiting moderation is now deleted altogether.

But Matt did update his blog role with a rather bitter-less shout out tot his blog.

    3. johan4cy

yeah i know, now matt is only 97.8% D**ch*

    4. metsfan4decades

Can’t say enough about the great job you all have done. In case you’ve all previously missed it: I’m having so much fun. These posts are great as well as the graphics.

  13. mrose

i do hope all our new visitors register :)

  14. johan4cy

I hate it how matt goes by loses back instead of games back or at least winning%

    1. metsfan4decades

      I always hated that too.

  15. Mr North Jersey

Did I read that correctly? The other site now decided to add a message board. I think you guys are making him nervous next thing you know he will have his version of NL East Chatter.

  16. baseballmercenaries

      Hey, it’s Gland.

All intelligent baseball folks finding there way over here.

      1. oleosmirf

with all the intelligent posters moving over to here, i wonder what Matt’s comment section is going to look like?

        1. GravediggerHebner

I imagine a little something like this:

          FIRE WILPONS!!!!!
          FIRE OMAR!!!!!!!!
          FIRE JERRY!!!!!!!
          TRADE THE CORE!!!

          ~Kherub

  18. baseballmercenaries

    finally no more gieco signs

  19. gland

I’m thrilled to be here! I haven’t known where to turn and I was so sick of “the bad place”

    1. baseballmercenaries

just pictured if this site had a live chat during games with in-game videos..that would be sweet

      1. trs86

        Working on it.

        1. GravediggerHebner

You’re working on “in-game videos?” Color me intrigued.

          1. baseballmercenaries

            wow fancy living

  20. GravediggerHebner

Psyched that you put a baseball card in there Rusty, looking good!

    1. rustyjr

Yeah thanks – I always loved the 84 card

      1. rustyjr

I didn’t put the pic on though

      2. trs86

Yeah that was me, had to do it. And it’s 86 get it straight. LOL I have about 100,000 of them in my attic.

  21. Joe R

Wow…I guess they are reading post and they do due a little research. In a week this site was already mentioned with only a few others in a post by him. Not trying to gas you guys up but it seems like a big coincidence that he is updating his readers on the comment section and what not. Idk I think he may be working overtime to get his site up and back. It doesnt take ppl that much to click a favorite and come here instead of there. Its not like your favorite local neighborhood pizza store. hm very interesting and impressive.

  22. oleosmirf

btw in case you haven’t heard

The Real Dirty Mets Blog was just acknowledged by Mr. Cerrone himself over on Metsblog…

    1. GravediggerHebner

I give him kudos, it was a brilliant move, because now we’re like his little nieces and nephews that he slips money to on holidays when no one is looking. “I remember when…”

      1. rustyjr

Does that mean we have to play nice ?

        1. johan4cy

          no, remember who banned you…

        2. metsfan4decades

I give him credit. Never thought he would shout a mention to this blog.

He’s in the type of business where you have to expect some feedback to be in the form of criticism. Have to have thick skin for that. I’ll give him a 5 out of 10 and only b/c he mentioned this blog.

As for me, I’m done over there. Didn’t even try to re-register. I don’t like the whole ‘I’ll be watching you’ theme.

          1. gland

I had been souring on his work for awhile, but when he shut down all of the comments and started talking about only making them open to a “core group” of “trusted” posters it really turned me off for good.

          2. oleosmirf

i think the downhill period started in Spring Training where Matt’s posts just had so many errors in them. Typos happen but there was a point where it just seemed like he wasn’t even watching the games anymore…

          3. gland

Not only that, but if you call him on it he gets all defensive. So he’d have one post where he talks about being a professional blogger and that this was his job and blah blah, and then he’d have one if someone criticized him or pointed out a mistake where he would be like “I’m just a blogger, I can’t proofread my work”.

Between that and the lack of consistent posts (Brock knows that’s my pet peeve!) and the awful “analysis”, he just doesn’t bring that much to the table for me. He’s a professional now, he should act like it. I get more from the newspaper bloggers who always seem to have better info and access.

So if I didn’t like his blogging, the only thing the site had going for it was being able to chat with you guys and other mets fans. When he started threatening to limit that, it was game over man.

      2. Joe R

yeah but whats interesting is if you click on the other blogs he mentioned none of them get any comments in their respective comment sections. I think he will keep an eye on this one. He obviously read some comments here and he knows ppl are unhappy with him

        1. gland

I read that post…I noticed how he had to make a point that his readership wasn’t down. That’s doubtful…seems like one of those things that if it were true you wouldn’t be saying it, you know?

          1. baseballmercenaries

he actually gave the appearance as if he didn’t do us wrong that he was thinking about us the whole time…sad..in truth he restricted fans from being just that ..fans

          2. kingman26

Gland, glad you are here man!!

          3. gland

BROCK! How are you! I just found my way over here. this is great!

          4. GravediggerHebner

            Roach is here too!

  23. gipperpdx

Rusty – so good to see a TDIMI with Rusty post!!!!!!!

  24. fongy2

    Guys, you are correct.
    I’d been reading and posting
there for 2 yrs on and off.
From the begin of S.T. on this
    guy(MC)began to behave like a
member of the team NOT a fan.
Seemed to be protecting and boosting
mgmt decsisions as well as sounding
alot like Omar himself who as i’ve
said for yrs is a 2nd rate salesman.
His site more and more became fan
    UNfriendly just like whats happened
with the team and stadiums the last
    few yrs..In reality,hebecame an
employee and shill of and for the
    team.
