Mets Acquire OF Emil Brown

Per Adam Rubin’s Surfing The Mets blog:

In a minor-league transaction, the Mets have acquired outfielder Emil Brown from the Padres. Brown, 34, played 41 games with Portland in the Pacific Coast League and hit .260 with four homers and 22 RBI. He will be assigned to Triple-A Buffalo, which placed pitchers Dillon Gee and Carlos Muniz on the DL with shoulder strains.

Also, per Rich Ackerman of WFAN the Colorado Rockies have fired manager Clint Hurdle and replaced him with Jim Tracy.

Gotta fill those Minor League spots…

    E. Brown – well they had to do something for the Bisons as they were all whining about losing FMart on that team….

So Beerleaguer got wind of the new ‘format’ for posting on metsblog this afternoon. They had some choice words on it, mainly comparing what would be considered ‘elite’ posters on metsblog with the ‘elite’ on bearleaguer.

So along comes our buddy Syler and gives them a ‘what for’ on that. He’s obviously been reading over there and has picked some of the best comments these past few days as a comparison:
    **********
Something I find hilarious is that you guys think you’re better or any different than the people that post on Metsblog.

Newsflash: You’re just as whiny and you overreact just as much.

Also, here is my submission for the Beerleaguer Elite:

Dumb Mutts, they’ll never win anything because they have no “gamers”, and they totally wish they had our super awesome .223 hitting SS over their dumb, arrogant SS.

Everyone on our pitching staff blows, and we should totally release Lidge, why did we even sign this clown in the 1st place?

OH MAN, our farm system is totally awesome, because Jayson Stark says so, he’s the only SMART and non-biased writer on ESPN… so what if he grew up in Philadelphia and was a Philly beat writer?

What we should do is totally trade Lou Marson plus a B+ prospect for Peavy, that’ll absolutely work!

Why do we need to worry? I mean, we’re obviously so much better than everyone in the NL East right now, we don’t need to make any moves to win the division by 10 games! Yeah!

One more thing: Koreans blow because they eat dogs
    ********
    He finished by asking:

    ……

    How’d I do?

    1. There's Always '10

      haha…down with philly gal fan.

    2. GravediggerHebner

I love Sylar. Has he found us? I hope he does before his stress induced massive heart attack.

      1. metsfan4decades

        I’m not sure.
I went over there to get a feel for what they were all saying losing Myers for the season. Found that post.
I don’t think many fans over there have any faith management is going to do what it needs to, to shore up that rotation. They were horrible for Myers went down.
Half a dozen of them threw out Pedro’s name as an option.

        1. metsfan4decades

          *before Myers went down.

          1. nymetsfan718

a trade proposal from one of their own

A three-way trade with Houston and San Diego that would bring Oswalt and Peavy to Philadelphia, Werth, Donald and Carrasco to San Diego and Kendrick and Marson to Houston.

            Gimme a break

          2. GravediggerHebner

Oswalt AND Peavy for 4 minor leaguers and a ML OF with one year of full time starting experience. Okie Dokie.

          3. billydeewilliams

ignoring the fact that peavy wouldn’t approve a trade to philly anyway, that’s still completely stupid.

          4. nymetsfan718

like i said, it was a philly fan who proposed it.

        2. GravediggerHebner

Hmmm, a fanbase lacking faith in it’s team’s management.

  4. johan4cy

    world series here we come!!!!

no, just kidding. thats what everyone was saying when omar was picking up cora, sullivan, livan…guys like that. but really, you need those players. if not the major league team then the minors. not every roster move is going to involve johan, krod, delgado, beltran etc.

  5. rustyjr

Is he gonna play partycake with dave lamb and willy mo pena :-p

  6. kingman26

Matt just made a post with tonight’s lineup and it ONLY HAS EIGHT PLAYERS!!!

I am sorry, but he does not belong running a corporate-sponsored blog anymore than I belong playing shortstop at Citi Field tonight.

He is a damn pathetic hack!!!

    1. nymetsfan718

he fixed it, must of read this post

      1. kingman26

        Welcome!!!

    2. saltygary

      Lineup:

      Castillo – 2b
      Beltran – cf

      Pelfrey – rhp

      1. dirtysanchez

        cool…get er done

      2. metsfan4decades

        No FMart. Interesting…
And Carlos in center – woo-hoo!!

      3. kingman26

Are you sure about that? The official blog of the New York Mets has us playing with 8 guys, and with LF vacant…must be more of the Wilpons’ cost-cutting….

        1. metsfan4decades

He did just fix it. If you look in the comments you’ll see where Toasty Joe commented on that, Matt said something about confusion with email from the field….

          1. kingman26

MF4D—Matt typed that in by hand, pretty obviously, and did not even doublecheck the sentence to be sure he had nine players. Sorry, I should have kept my big trap shut, but I really think that site is a joke, now that I have had my eyes opened.

          2. metsfan4decades

But you have a point. Even he should have noticed he only had 8 players…

      4. nymetsfan718

not bad, could be worse. does anyone know if this guy sean west is a RHP or LHP? WOuld of liked to see Muprhy play today after the solid night last night.

        1. billydeewilliams

          Lefty i believe…that’s why F-Mart and Murphy aren’t starting.

          1. nymetsfan718

            ah ok, makes sense

          2. wannybackstra

What happened to Jerry’s bold statement that Murphy can hit lefties? He’s 5 for 16 vs. lefties this season so he sure hasn’t failed vs. lefties and there’s no justification for the l/r jumbling Jerry insists upon. Let the kid play and keep his sharp swing.

Meanwhile, Pagan has always been a bad right handed hitter.

            Tatis could be in RF.

          3. billydeewilliams

Not defending manual at all, but I think he might just be trying to get Tatis reps at 1st base. Not sure if he’s sold on Murph as an every day first baseman, and with delgado out for awhile, he wants another option there. the only way for tatis to get any better at the position is to get some playing time there.

            just a thought.

          4. wannybackstra

Fair point. But for me Jerry has already lost the benefit of the doubt!

Murphy swung the bat so well the other night I’d hate to see him go into another funk because he’s being jerked around. I believe he was hitting over .300 when Jerry suddenly began jerking him around in the first instance.

          5. wannybackstra

I really hate everything about how Jerry manages a game.

          6. bucknersankles

F-mart is batting 306 against left handed pitching, I hope Jerry is not going to do this kid the way he does Church, that would be a mistake.

          7. wannybackstra

As I was discussing with Grave and Fong yesterday, I think it is a big mistake to platoon a young player before learning what he can do. He’s pigeon holing these guys before they get started.

As Grave aptly pointed out, platoons work fine for veteran players who have demonstrated a stark split throughout their careers.

Let these kids fail before you sit them. Especially Murphy who has proven in his young career to not care which hand the pitcher throws with.

          8. billydeewilliams

I think he wanted to give him a day off anyway, so that’s just the excuse he’s using. The kid hasn’t even had a chance to sit around and watch the game yet. he had to come in and play those first two games, and we was overmatched most of the time, so it might be nice to let his nerves calm, and give him a chance to breathe.

      5. GravediggerHebner

        Free Wilson Valdez!

        1. nymetsfan718

          you mean release him?

          1. GravediggerHebner

Or that. I think I recall Jerry Man saying that he was going to “get Valdez a start sometime over the weekend.” From what I can gather, Cora is coming back fast and my sources suggest that Valdez will be released then.

    3. bucknersankles

      Gee Kingman,
Why don’t you tell us how you really feel. LOL

      1. kingman26

LOL! Sorry, I saw that and just could not even believe it.

Amateur hour has never been as amateur as Mets Blog.

TRS is right—it started as a college project and is comically too big for its britches.

    4. dirtysanchez

lolll not a good comparision king as im sure you can play better SS than what we have now ;p

      1. kingman26

Thanks Dirty! I did play 3B as a younger obnoxious Met fan….

        1. dirtysanchez

          i played 1b,2b and OF as a youngster..pretty good to..batted 3rd ;p

        2. metsfan4decades

          Ha!
At least Ramon has been decent in the field these past few games. Here’s hoping that continues – sigh….

          1. dirtysanchez

agreed. I should be giving him some more love but he has got a long way to go lol..

  7. GravediggerHebner

Woah, first I read that the Mets acquire a AAAA OF, then I read that David Hyde-Pierce is married to a guy. How many more unexpected surprises will today bring?

    1. billydeewilliams

      lol…love it.

  8. nymetsfan718

Has anyone here tried posting on Metsblog recently to see if they would be “approved”?

    1. metsfan4decades

Not I. I don’t feel like auditioning. And I don’t want to have to worry about what I’m posting b/c moderators might find it obnoxious, negative, duplicate, or any of the other half dozen or so criteria to make the ‘elite’ status.

  9. saltygary

I decided to get a little immature and create a new Metsblog ID. Here’s hoping they don’t notice my ID name:

Yea the kid needed to be benched after that performance. Hopefully the team didn’t ride him like they did with Lastings.

Pretty funny how very few comments he has with every poster over here! He has a couple of 60–90 minute old posts with less than ten comments….

      1. saltygary

Its been a long week I’ll post a couple more:

Yea beside this I havent been over there. I just used the site to read comments to get the fan pulse. His dribble is unreadable.

    3. bucknersankles

      LOL, VERY, VERY FUNNY.

this site is coming along..tell me what you guys think of the new forum theme http://www.nleastchatter.com/forum

    1. dirtysanchez

      lol i like it..its funny

    2. metsfan4decades

I like it. Love the forum categories.

    3. kingman26

I think it looks really good!

    4. saltygary

That banner image that you have is looking really tight. My only criticism is the forum names. General is a little confusing at the top maybe rename it to feedback and lower it in order. Switch teams to “NL East Teams”. And I would worry about having a ticket exchange. I would hate that you would be held liable if a transaction went bad. There are also rules where tickets can’t be re-sold more than face value and if that inadvertently happens there the ticket broker can hold your liable. Just my 2 cents.

      1. mrose

Salty, I see your point bout General… i’ll rename it to Feedback unless anyone sees a better name? Also, with the ticket thing, thanks for the concern, but i’m not really a broker since i’m just giving a public space to let someone sell it and not really a 3rd party am I?

  11. QnsNative718

Ey, Brock. Whatd you think about Cerrone’s “Let’s be friends” letter to us?

I think it was a pure example of him feeling the heat. In other words, pure bull$hit. Had we not formed this little crew, our emails would still go ignored. It’s not until we became a threat and started seeing less and less hits, did he finally come forward. He mustve thought, “Ah let em complain. They need me. Where else are they gonna go?”

Never forget the people who helped you on the way up. Never.

    1. nymetsfan718

well, i think the fact that they only have about 20 posts all day is due more to less visitors than their new policy.

      1. billydeewilliams

i’m sure there are less visitors, but he ran a poll earlier that still had a good chunk of responses.

i think it’s more a product of no one being allowed to post without the comment going through moderation, etc.

      2. bucknersankles

In the immortal words of one, RALPH KRAMDEN …..
“BE KIND TO THE PEOPLE YOU MEET ON THE WAY UP BECAUSE THET ARE THE SAME PEOPLE YOU WILL MEET ON THE WAY DOWN” LOL, Man, I miss Gleason.

    2. saltygary

Did he send something to you guys?

      1. QnsNative718

Yea, here’s Trs’ post about it.

        http://realdirtymets.com/2009/05/28/the-metsblog-issue/

        1. saltygary

That is interesting. Wow. I say EFF the Q&A who cares what PR crap he is going to spin to people here.

    3. GravediggerHebner

I heard about this but I didn’t actually see/read it.

Based on what I heard, the nice reasonable me thinks it’s nice of him to reach out and put us on his blog roll and mention us in a post and we can all just get along.

The cynical me thinks he put us on his blog roll and mentioned us in a post and continues to make commenting at his own site difficult so that he can claim he “gave birth” to us and also to foist all his annoying troll commenters off on us.

What’s the truth? I have no idea, but I am trying very hard to believe it is the first scenario.

      1. saltygary

Oh ok I read last night here that he put this site on his blog role. I thought he messaged you guys directly.

        1. GravediggerHebner

That’s my understanding, that he did directly contact some of the guys here, but I didn’t see it.

      2. QnsNative718

The difference here is, theyll be no trolls here. We’ll actually be MONITORING the blog. ha!

        1. bucknersankles

          Qns,
I don’t mind a troll or two every now and then especially a Phillie troll, how else can we express our indignation of Rollins and Victorino unless we get some poor wandering Phillie fan in here and collectively cyber stomp his ass.

      3. kingman26

Grave buddy, you know how much I respect you, but go over there and look how many comments he has on posts that are 1–2 hours old.

He is scared and should be. He is mediocrity personified, and is in so far over his head—both regarding his talent AND his judgment—that he may need several life preservers.

    4. kingman26

Qns, I agree 100% and MORE.

He is getting no comments, and he deserves it. He blew us off and banned us and many of us were his biggest supporters and gave him tons of hits before he was Mr Corporate Sponsorship.

He has four posts over there now with open comments and has a TOTAL of 11 comments!

He definitely feels the heat, and realizes—many months too late—what a fool he has been. He needs this site more than this site needs him—after less than two weeks!

If the proprietors of this site want me to shut up about this, please let me know and I will do so instantly.

But, in less than two weeks, we have scared Little Matthew.

  12. GravediggerHebner

Eddie C. just said the Mets are leaning toward carrying 3 catchers when Schneider comes back, and sending down a pitcher due to the fact that they seldom need a “long man.”

    1. GravediggerHebner

Related, apparently Sean Green does still have minor league options.

      1. QnsNative718

But you know whats gonna happen the day that happens right? lol

    2. wannybackstra

Not only do they not use Takahashi, whom I presume is the long man and the most likely pitcher to go down, but they underutilize Stokes and Green, who is not going to figure anything out by not playing.

However, I don’t really see the benefit of carrying three catchers unless Castro gets regular duty as a pinch hitter. Neither Schneider nor Santos have much value off the bench.

With all of the injury concerns in the outfield and the middle infield, perhaps they’d be better off keeping an extra utility guy around, whether it is Ramon Martinez/Wilson Valdez when Cora returns or someone else.

      1. GravediggerHebner

Agreed. There’s no really good reason to keep 3 catchers, unless somehow in a way I don’t understand the trade value for any of them is enhanced by virtue of them being in the majors.

This is a stretch but perhaps Schneider’s bench value is the threat of the concept of a LH pinch hitter that will make an opposing manager at least have to ponder the possibility?

Not that I necessarily trust him, but with games against the Yankees and Phillies coming up keeping Tak as a 2nd lefty seems reasonable. But only if they actually have enough confidence in him to use him.

Green may benefit from regular work in Buffalo, or he may go into a deeper funk. I’m glad I only have to shoot the breeze about these decisions.

        1. wannybackstra

The IL games are another good point. Surely, none of the three catchers will be DH candidates.

Sure Santos has gotten some big hits but reality will set in and he will be nothing more than his .267 avg and .300 OBP suggest, despite the few moments of stardom he’s achieved.

I’m happy to have those big moments but I view them as flukes or coincidences.
