Rico Suave Should Be Back Tonight……..

douchebagbeltran

I couldnt resist lol! The other half of the tag champs is due back tonight after recieving a cortisone shot for his knees. Beltran was putting up MONSTER numbers, hitting .369 with 6HR/31RBI/31RUNS/7SB. Needless to say the mets sorely need these types of numbers in their lineup everyday lol. Theres just something about Beltran hitting in the 3 hole.  Beltran has hit in every single spot in a batting order but by far has had the most at bats in the 3 hole. For his career in 3112AB, Beltran is hitting .276avg/.354OBP/.497SLG/545RBI/149HR/140SB…sorry Daniel Murphy, Beltran bats third ;p. I cannot wait to see the tag champs back together again..time to go fishing ;p. LGM

I’m not convinced he’ll be back tonight, even if Omar says so! But I’ll pray for it, that’s for sure. If Beltran’s back, I wonder if FMart will get a start…he probably will.

    1. nymetsfan718

prismo, i think Fmart is starting regardless if beltran plays or not, he was called up to play not to PH.

      1. There's Always '10

Read today that FMart is sitting tonight.

        1. nymetsfan718

Ah ok, thanks for the info, Guess if BEltran is back, its Beltran Sheff and Pagan. I can live with that

          1. There's Always '10

Although, what good is Pagan without the Church? :-)

          2. nymetsfan718

            LOL, nice

  2. nymetsfan718

As logn as the mets can keep winning, and as long as sheff can produce, lets not rush Carlos back, lets make sure he is 100% and not 90%. Pagan looks like he can play a decent CF. Lets see how long we can milk this.

    1. trs86

Agreed. But this series is important to keep momentum.

      1. nymetsfan718

True, but IMO, we have a good pitching matchup tonight. Lets see if one more day hels and put him in tmrw vs JJ

  3. trs86

From what I can gather, LOL, Fmart is sitting tonight.

    1. nymetsfan718

LOL, nice touch. But on the real(no pun intended) is he really sitting tonight?

      1. metsfan4decades

That’s what I read on a previous thread. Didn’t site the source though…

Love the pic! Where do you guys get these from?

I’d like to see Carlos back tonight – but more important back feeling good. I’m more psyched to see this series than the Nats. We should keep the momentum going and prove once and for all we can beat these teams.

    2. GravediggerHebner

There are many websites out there that hate the Mets, it’s from one of them.

    3. metsfan4decades

That must be an I.E. thing? I don’t see any tag in Firefox…

  8. QnsNative718

Mornin, people. Im at work right now and actually had to…WORK! The whole time though I was thinking bout logging onto the blog. Is that sad?

    1. CaseStreet

I’m in the same boat. My wife hates me and if I’d stay out of here, I’d be able to write more posts.

  9. nymetsfan718

Hey guys, i just read on MLBTR that Brett Myers may need surgery. does anyone think that this might influence them on going after a guy like Bedard, or Lee, or maybe Oswalt?

    1. dwrightisking

I think that’s highly likely considering the rest of the starters they have(other than hamels) are garbage so far this year. blanton, chan ho, and moyer I think

      1. dwrightisking

perhaps peavy may be an option too…I read a quote from his agent that gave me the impression he would seriously consider going to philly

        1. nymetsfan718

I agree about philly, but would ne move from Petco to CBP?

          1. dwrightisking

this is what his agent said:

“I have not discussed Philly with Jake because nobody has asked us to discuss Philly. He has a strong preference to play in the National League. He also wants to play for a contender. Both of those two things play into Philly’s hands. The personnel is awesome. If there is one downside, it’s the geographical difference for him, given that he has made his family home in the San Diego area.”

          2. nymetsfan718

I agree with you, and i also read that, im just saying, IMO, Petco and CBP are two totally diff places to pitch, and also the NL east lineups are much diff that those of the NL West. Even the NAts Offense is potent. maybe not so much Atl

          3. There's Always '10

I think someone needs to take Jake Peavy for a walk and have a little talk with him. It should go a little something like this:

“Jake, you’re a fine pitcher. Seriously. You are really good. You’re an All-Star, etc. But let’s not get carried away. You are very far from being an all time great. So please, cut the $hit and pitcher wherever you are traded to. Stay classy, San Diego.”

          4. nymetsfan718

’10, thats the thing, he needs to be picky about where he plays this way he can remain a good pitcher. Sanatana, Doc Halladay, those guys can pitch anywhere and be succesfull

          5. There's Always '10

This guy trying to dictate which part of the country he pitches in is insane to me.

          6. darknova306

Yeah, but he’s also a lousy big-game pitcher. I wouldn’t be worried if he moved to Philly.

          7. nymetsfan718

i would not be scared either.

        2. CaseStreet

really? didn’t know Philly was middle-america.

Either way, unless they get Doc Halladay, I’m not worried about the Phils

          1. nymetsfan718

Doc Hallady? That would be scary.

          2. There's Always '10

They are not getting Halladay any time soon anyway. I believe Pat Gillick has some roots in Toronto, which is pretty scary though. I think he is still affiliated with the Phils in some way.

    2. darknova306

Even without Meyers getting surgery, their rotation has been a joke (for the most part) this year. They’ve been looking into adding a starter for a while. Anyone have insight into their current farm system and the potential they have to make a major move?

      1. nymetsfan718

I think they have a decent farm system and can pull off a trade. They have a guy Carrasco who supposedly isd pretty good

        1. dwrightisking

they have this kid in the minors who has been compared to johan.
          According to jayson starks:

“Then there’s a left-hander who is climbing everybody’s charts, Antonio Bastardo, who has a 50-9 strikeout-walk ratio between Double-A and Triple-A. The Phillies dangled Bastardo in July for Rockies reliever Brian Fuentes. But a year later, he is actually drawing some Johan Santana comparisons, and might have passed Carrasco as their No. 1 pitching prospect.”

who knows, the sillies may decide on bringing the kid up instead of pulling off a trade

          1. GravediggerHebner

Bastardo did easily dispose of the Buffalo Bisons yesterday (but who doesn’t). Scroll down the blog to the gigantic Buffalo Bisons logo for the box score from that game.

          2. There's Always '10

Fitting that a Phillies pitcher is named Bastardo.

          3. dwrightisking

            yes! I thought so too!

          4. There's Always '10

All they need is someone by the name of Feo and it’ll sum up Philly fans and players in two names: Feo Bastardos.

          5. nymetsfan718

the game was aired on SNY last night i think. The bisons are like 13-35(somehting liek that) they started the year 2-17

      2. fongy2

They’re in better shape than we are
        as far as thats concerned.

      3. metsfan4decades

I agree. I been saying all along their pitching didn’t impress me.
I think their farm system is pretty decent too. I read where they have a couple of arms ‘almost’ ready. They had no plans to part with them but it might be a whole different story now.

    3. dirtysanchez

i think it might force their hand..they will be looking hard for pitching now…they struck gold with blanton last year…hope they dont go 2/2. At least they are emptying their farm system little by little..

    4. trs86

I think Lee would be a very good possibility for them.

      1. fongy2

That could be a killer for US!

  10. CaseStreet

Question: Considering how everyone hates the Mets and Beltran is so underrated, if Beltran continues having a great year, do you think he can win the MVP (assuming Albert “The Machine” Pujols cools off)?

    1. fongy2

No. it’ll be Pujols OR Howard.

      1. trs86

Hopefully it will not be Howard because they will not be in the playoff race.

        1. fongy2

Good luck with that my friend.

        2. nymetsfan718

Agreed, if the Mets win the NL East, and Beltrans #’s are comparable to Pujols’. than i think beltran can win it.

    2. GravediggerHebner

I think the voters would be swayed if the Mets, with Beltran’s hitting contributing significantly, manage to overcome recent past demons and win the division. And if the Cards don’t make the playoffs.

    3. nymetsfan718

Thats tough, i mean Beltran has to keep up his current pace for him to beat out Pujols. Im thinking of a line of soemthing around .330 30 125.

      1. fongy2

Prob is that his current pace puts him
        more like 20HRs&100BIs
        THATS NOT GONNA GET HIM
        AN MVP AWARD

        1. There's Always '10

I think if Beltran was playing his home games at Shea, he would have close to 10 homers. But he’s not, so I guess that doesn’t matter.

What does matter is the fans are finally appreciating what he means to this team. This team is so much better with him in the lineup and it’s important to get him back to 100%.

    4. charlies

You know Case, I don’t see any Met (on this particular team) winning it because they always seem to cancel each other’s votes. Beltran has been great, but David has put up incredible numbers in May. Then, there’s always Jose Reyes, who when he gets hot always garners more attention. And, if/when Delgado comes back and if he puts up big numbers…well, then he can get some attention. This is an ensemble cast, this team (to borrow a phrase from TV). The Mets are the Lost of baseball (that’s kinda funny).

      1. CaseStreet

I wonder if there have been other examples of this phenomenon, the Lost of Baseball

  11. charlies

Man, Omar is getting KILLED on the FAN right now. Not that I think he shouldn’t…

Did any of you hear his interview on the B/C show this morning? He sounded like an idiot this morning.

    1. fongy2

      He sounded like an idiot…
      THIS MORNING???

      1. charlies

Ah, Fong, you’re funny. Let me clarify…he sounded MORE idiotic than usual.

        1. fongy2

          Thank you!

    2. CaseStreet

hey charlie, nice to see you again. did Matt ever respond to your email?

      What did Omar say?

      1. charlies

No. No response. No surprise. I’m sure he’s gotten many emails and I am no one to him.

I’ve not been able to comment lately because my wife has been out of town and I’ve been taken care of our two boys…exhausting! Even though my wife is gone until tomorrow, I just had to jump on to get my fix.

        1. CaseStreet

that’s cool. are you having a boys nite?

          1. charlies

every night for the last 10 days! i have a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old boy.

          2. trs86

Oh man that’s tough. Doing this and having a 3 year old girl at home is hard enough.

    3. There's Always '10

Are you sure it was Omar and not Boomer or Carton that sounded like an idiot?

      1. charlies

        ’twas an idiot fest!

        1. There's Always '10

Boomer and Carton are unbearable. Those two shouldn’t be on the radio.

          1. CaseStreet

I actually like them. It’s the rest of the shows I can’t stand, except for the Schmooz, he’s just hilarious.

          2. There's Always '10

Well I still like you. I love the Schmooz too. He’s awesome.

  12. CaseStreet

    Interesting tidbit,

Philly is 9-14 @ home and 16-6 away.

    Any explanations for this abnormality?

    1. There's Always '10

0-2 on the road against teams that are better than them :-)

    2. nymetsfan718

IMO, their pitching has been horrible, thats not a good formula at CBP.

    3. charlies

I saw that. I think the explanation is actually pretty straight forward (I’m saying this without looking at stats, so if I’m wrong, don’t jump on me!): in that bandbox, the Phillies are at a severe disadvantage because they have such garbage pitching…

    4. darknova306

That’s an interesting set of numbers. Could be their crappy pitching is just better able to handle playing in parks that aren’t sad jokes.

    5. CaseStreet

I think we have a consensus

    6. metsfan4decades

Not really. And from what I’m reading, their fans are totally confused by it also.
There was some ‘joking’ comment made by Charlie M. the other night that went something like ‘maybe the fans should stop excusing us for our WS win last year and get on this team a little at home’. wow – then he qualified he was joking. But I don’t think he was. It’s a pretty sad commentary if he’s looking for the fans to fix that home record.

The Phil fans still think ‘no worries’ b/c they’ve got just about the same record now as they did this time last year. Two different years though. Their pitching is falling apart. Probably lost Myers. Moyer is a shell of what he as last year. Park has been banished to the BP. Lidge is already less than what he as last year. Rolling is hitting what? .220? right now? Utley is slumping, Victorino and Worth have been very streaky, Howard hasn’t heated up yet. They’ll need all those pieces to make a run at the division.
Only one who has been consistent so far is Ibanez.

      1. darknova306

“The Phil fans still think ‘no worries’ b/c they’ve got just about the same record now as they did this time last year.”

So, based on that logic, the Mets will take the division this year without worry. We were 22-24 last year through 46 games, this year we’re 26-20.
        That’s horrible logic.

        1. metsfan4decades

          Exactly.

    7. fongy2

Got this one covered for you case since in stuck in philly
      land.Hammels,Manuel and Amaro
have all commented in the media in the last couple weeks
      that the world series hangover
      they’ve suffered from at home
has to do with the off the field requests/demands of those in the philly area.
      Things like charity dinners,
      in season autograph signings,
      appearances etc..
Theres been wat too much of
these off the field distractions which they don’t
have to deal with while in the road.Away from home,so far they’ve just been able to go out and play baseball.

      1. CaseStreet

so, r they choking at home because of the pressures?

        1. darknova306

          lol

          Nicely played, sir!

          1. nymetsfan718

i would love for the media to call em out for that. but it will never happen, they dont play in NY.

        2. fongy2

          No dude,
time and distractions which will eventually end
AND that aint good news for us.

          1. nymetsfan718

but mediocre pitching will never end.

          2. fongy2

            neither do their nightly comebacks.

          3. nymetsfan718

well, they cant play wash every night.

          4. There's Always '10

That’s true. I think they will have played Washington 12 times by the end of this weekend. Can someone confirm that?

          5. darknova306

They’ll have played Washington 13 times by the end of the weekend.

          6. nymetsfan718

yes your right, it would of been 13 but one game was PPD

          7. darknova306

Ah, must’ve missed the fact there was a rainout. I need more coffee. :)

          8. There's Always '10

Give credit where it is due, because they are beating up on Washington. That’s how you build up your record. But, they won’t have those games that have been cupcakes many more times on their schedule.

          9. darknova306

Agreed, ’10. We’re in the middle of one of those ‘cupcake’ sections of our schedule, so it’s time for US to take appropriate care of our own business. Gotta stop tanking against the Marlins.

    8. nymetsfan718

case, look at a team like the red, they also play in a bandbox, they are at Home 13-12 Away 13-8. Not as drastic, but still a odd diff.

      1. There's Always '10

Reds have better pitching. Much better. They have 4 guys that can go out there and give you well above average starts.

        1. nymetsfan718

Exactly, i was trying to say that unlike the Phils, the Reds can survive playing in a small park.

      2. CaseStreet

diff is, Cincy has decent pitching

        1. fongy2

          Also,Cincy has
          played us,philly,brewers and cards
          already at home.

          1. nymetsfan718

and i believe they played LA at CBP also.

          2. nymetsfan718

            sorry, disregard that post lol

          3. fongy2

            b/t/w
case weren’t you one of those you mocked me for
            saying
            cincy
            could be a sleeper
            b/c of their
            staff?
            AND that
            the Dodgers would run away
            w/the West?

          4. darknova306

Cincy was my sleeper in the NL, too. Good young team, but still some major holes.

          5. CaseStreet

            don’t think so.

The dodgers lineup is too solid for anyone to think otherwise, and I really don’t know anything about Cincy other than they have good young pitching.

          6. nymetsfan718

IMO, i think the bigger suprise in the NL Central is Milwaukee. Who knew? No Sheets and No CC thay they would be 27-20.

          7. There's Always '10

Jay Bruce (bad start), Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Ramon Hernandez (who i don’t like at all). They have a good enough lineup considering their staff. Big question is, can their staff hold up this year, or will it fall apart like it did in 2H’08?

      Citizens Bank Park…

    10. charlies

Phils have hit 31 HRs and scored 108 runs at home.
Opponents have hit 38 HRs and scored 127 runs at CBP.

      Phils pitching splits:

      Home (209 IP) – ERA 5.34, WHIP 1.545, HR 38
      Road (194.1 IP) – ERA 4.86, WHIP 1.379, HR 33

      The pitching is bad.

Ok my bad Case.Cincy has alot of good
young talent and more on the way.

  14. metsfan4decades

So far,if they’ve relying on the long ball at CBP for all their offense and come from behind wins, can’t wait until they come to Citi field. We’re getting it done lately playing some small ball and getting those double, hits in the gaps so we should have the advantage.
And right now, our SP is just better than theirs.

    1. fongy2

      Ryan Howard doesn’t hit cheap
      HRs.They’d go out anywhere.
      Just sayin’.

    2. darknova306

Well, we beat them in the 2 games they’ve already played at Citi. And one of those was a shaky Pelf start.

      1. darknova306

Though 2 games is a meaningless sample, just noting it.

      2. fongy2

        Sure thats great.
We just can’t con’t to lose series to the
Pirates and Padres of the world.

        1. darknova306

Absolutely agreed. That was one of the things that killed us last year. The Nats/Pirates/Marlins/Padres were rough. That shouldn’t have been the case. We’ve already played a bad series against the Padres this year, but we’re beating the Nats and Pirates this year. We need to stop sucking against the Marlins and Braves, though…

I’m just giving a serious answer
to what I thought was a serious
question by Case. It is and has been
for about 2 weeks now being discussed in and around Philly. So like I said
    Hammels,amnuel and their GM have
answerwd it AND they aren’t happy about it. Look the Phillies aren’t going anywhere, they’re too good.
We may not like it BUT it is what
it is they haven’t been better than us for 2 yrs now by accident.

  16. fongy2

But the sillies have Won their gms
against bad teams. Which we often fail
    to do.
