It’s About Freakin’ Time

Per Adam Rubin’s Surfing The Mets:

“Sweet Caroline,” the Mets‘ lightning-rod, eighth-inning sing-along tune, may have met its demise at Citi Field. Friday night, the classic version of “Meet the Mets” replaced the Neil Diamond tune long associated with Fenway Park.

“I liked it,” said Rob Hoffman, who is in the Air National Guard and originally from West Hampton Beach, L.I., about the switch, “because I am also a Red Sox fan. I think that is their song.”

Said Alex Quiroz of Union City, N.J.: “I liked ‘Meet the Mets’ better. When I hear ‘Sweet Caroline,’ I think of the Boston Red Sox. That’s their song. With ‘Meet the Mets,’ it’s about our team.”

A Mets official downplayed the tune swap, saying: “We never specified an eighth-inning sing-along for the entirety of the season.”

To be fair, all I did was the title and the pic. Everything else is Adam Rubin of The Daily News.

I am very much looking forward to what you have to offer (no pressure). :-0

I can sort of understand that. There’s often a mutual distaste for the Yankees.

My personal experience is that I was born and raised a Met fan in suburban NY, but spent much of my adult life in suburban Boston (actually moved there in 1987 so my reception was lukewarm at first) and even for a few years shared season tix to the Red Sox. I would consider them my “2nd” team.

I’m back in the NY area now, but the Mets remained my clear “1st” team throughout.

        I can see that…
