good afternoon all you mets maniacs it’s time for the sat pregame edition of “This day in mets infamy with Rusty” so as former ump Dave Pallone would say “PLAY BALL!!”
FIRST UP ON THIS DATE IN 1964
New York Mets purchased Frank “fINE” Lary from the Detroit Tigers on May 30, 1964. He pitched for the better part of 2 seasons for the mets before fading into obscurity ( which for being a mets pitcher in the early to mid ’60′s was pretty much a given)
David Cone announced his retirement on May 30, 2003. – truley a sad day imo because it would’ve been nice to see Coney end his career with one last good season – unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be
New York Mets signed free agent Mike “fourth string” DiFelice on May 30, 2006. wow – 2 DiFeilice transactions in 2 days a year apart – talk about kismet (insert sarcasm here)
and lastly on this date in 2002 Mo VAUGHN was released from the Bellevue psych ward after he was admited for his crazy talk which included the phrases ” I am a first Baseman !” and “i’m not fat it’s the uniform that makes u look 200lbs heavier!!!”
