This day in mets infamy with rusty 5/31/09

good morning all its time for the hazy, lazy Sunday edition of “this day in Mets infamy with Rusty” so lets get down to buisness

first off b-day wishes go out to one of the many ineffective pitchers that the Mets had in the late ’70′s Dwight “Saint” Bernard (1952) – little footnote about him – he was later traded for Mark “bombs away” Bomback in ’79
Joe “captain” Orsulak (1962) – one of the most clutch guys on a god awful mets teams of the mid ’90′s

New York Mets traded Tim Teufel to the San Diego Padres for Garry Templeton on May 31, 1991. – sad day indeed because other than Doc Gooden he was one of the last mainstays from the ’86 world series champoinship team and the “Tuefel Shuffle” was sorely missed – and all we got back was a washed up utility player in Templeton.

and lastly on this date in 02 Mo Vaugn was seen eating a celery stalk – when prodded by the media he said ” I’m on a vegetarian diet – nuthin but vegetables and steak !” when a reporter broke the news to him that staek wasn’t a vegetable he said ” shoot i wondered why they didn’t have hamburgers at the health food store!”

I feel like there needs to be one of those desk peel-off calendars with Mo Vaughn “facts.”

I think you may have just given Rusty a serious money-making idea!

Yeah I don’t think Mo would give me permission lol

Ah, to paraphrase what Jerry Seifeld once said to Newman when he was pretending to like broccoli, “Mo Vaughn wouldn’t eat celery if it was deep fried in chocolate sauce!”

Question Kingman, are our storys showing up on the Sportspyder widget on the right? They are on mine….

Hey TRS–Yes, for me as of this message, there are six things there, and the first is Dirty’s joke, and the fourth is your excellent minor league recap….
