good morning all my fellow mets maniacs it’s time for the early a,m edition of “This day in Mets infamy with Rusty”. So pull up a chair, have a gulp of your double latte expresso and have fun
first off birthday wishes go out to journey man pitcher who briefly pitched on the ’70 team Dean “no” Chance (1941)
also celebrating being another year older is horrid pitcher for the ’75 team Rick “i ain’t related to Alec !!!) Baldwin (1953)
New York Mets selected Kevin”Diamonds and Rust” Baez in seventh round of free agent draft on June 1, 1988.- he was later traded for Glendon “After the gold” Rusch
New York Mets selected Preston “son of Mookie!!) Wilson in first round (ninth pick overall) of free agent draft on June 1, 1992. (and to think he got us Piazza)
New York Mets selected Dan ( nit Bill not Dale but Dan” Murray in 10th round of free agent draft on June 1, 1995.
New York Mets selected Grant “Bong Hit” Roberts in 11th round of free agent draft on June 1, 1995. and we all know how that turned out lol
New York Mets selected Nelson “FIGGY!!!” Figueroa in 30th round of free agent draft on June 1, 1995. – ( imho the best met to replace Ollie in the staff not Redding !)

I remember how upset Mookie was when the Mets traded away Preston. He went on to have five solid years (including one great year…in Colorado) before beginning his early decline.
And I love Figgy! He was so nice when he signed my Mets cap last season. It was at Nationals park and there were a bunch of kids and myself reaching out for some signage, meanwhile Figgy’s laughing it up with all the Moms.

Yeah and I was quite perturbed when mookie admited that he was rooting for the cards in the 06 playoffs – I know it’s your son but comeon be diplomatic mookie

Great way to start the morning. Thanks, Rusty!
I’m with you, Rusty, I’d take Figgy over Redding in Ollie’s place any day.
I miss Glendon Rusch. He was the anti-Trachsel, he pitched quickly and efficiently. I remember a game he pitched against the Cubs at Wrigley that lasted just over 1 hour 50 minutes. I forget who he pitched against, but we lost like 2-0 on a 2-run HR. That was a magnificent game and the main memory I’ll always associate with Glendon.

I just don’t understand what is going on with Redding. Either he is not healthy or he is tipping his pitches. Look at the guys 2007 stats and then the first half of 2008. Since the all-star break last year he has been flat putrid. Something has to be wrong. You don’t go from having an ERA under 4 for an entire season combining those two halves to these two haves without something.

He’s supposedly healthy. Then again… how can we trust this medical staff…
I don’t know if I’d say he’s tipping his pitches. He doesn’t have enough command for tipping the pitches to matter. He’s looked downright awful.

You are right and I just don’t get it.

Look at this.
Combining his 2nd half of 2007 and first half of 2008 Redding had an ERA of 3.73 with 187+ innings.

Sometimes pitchers just lose it. It’s likely there’s something going on that we can’t gauge, but it’s also possible that he’s just turned into a lousy pitcher. Redding’s downturn is almost as enigmatic as Perez’s head.

Guys, the Yardbarker widget is no more. I could not take looking at Futley one more second.

He has had SOME success, but I still never wanted him on the team. I wouldn’t give him one more start, but the Gangsta things he deserves one for some reason.

Just about every active
player in MLB has had
“some” success hence,
the reason they’re there. Redding though,
is just a BAD Pitcher
on this level.
