Minaya Just Misses Aussie Gem

Jack Ross is dead.  The last living Australian to fight in World War One died in his sleep this week at age 110.  The Mets international scouts had recently become aware of Ross and his affinity for watching cricket on television.  Met general manager Omar Minaya was traveling to Australia by merchant ship to watch Ross watch cricket himself.

Contacted via morse code on board The USS Old Slow Boat, Minaya was asked about his scouting trip.  “We could always use another good bat, you know what I’m sayin’?”  Minaya responded.  When questioned about why he was traveling by merchant ship to scout a 110 year old man who has never played baseball, Minaya replied “I mean, you know, we’re on a budget here.  We’re always looking in unusual places for raw talent to help the ballclub.  Mr. Ross was a fighter.  He had a lot of toughness and I’m uh, starting to notice that, you know, maybe this club I’ve put together is lacking that.”  Minaya later telegraphed “The New York Mets send their condolences to the Ross family.”

Maybe he should sign himself

    Can Omar just fire himself?
Please! And take Tony B. with him.

Too bad Mets fans never get what they want fongy. I think were lucky that Ramon Mart hurt himself, because I’m positive that Omar was going to demote Valdez when Cora was activated. He seems like a guy who plays favorites, and I have a feeling he would of made that move.

        Agree

Cora was going to take Pagan’s spot.

But Valdez will likely go down Friday when Reyes is back.

            Should
            have hired
            Wally
            when Willie
            was fired!
            Or Bowa
            Or Kirk
            Gibson.

            comforting!

I pulled a hamstring watching the game last night.

    1. fongy2

      I pulled a groin watching…
well lets just say, a not
      for the kids DVD.

Omars shown himself to be only slightly better as a GM than he was
    as a player.

“Met general manager Omar Minaya was traveling to Australia by merchant ship to watch Ross watch cricket himself.”

Haha – this was very funny Grave.

Ya know as funny as mattsblog is
    HIS threads are even funnier.
He says now Omar is looking OF
instead of 1B for help.Wow! Now?
We all didn’t know this should be
done all winter? AND matts says
    Getting Holliday,sighning him to
    reasonable contract then pairing
him w/Beltran and FMart would set
us up in the OF for some time.
As if A)Boras would ever allow ANY
of his clients sign as “reasonable”
    contract,much less his top dog
AND B) Like we have any idea what
exactly FMart will be in the near
future. Ofcourse no critic of Omar
from matt for not doing the obvious
    during the offseason noted.

    1. Joe R

Good points. Reasonable and Boras don’t go together.

        Not to mention that
        anything in Omars past
        indicates he could out
        smart a GM like Beane
        and acquire Holliday
        w/o having to GIVE UP
        FMart! Ya know matt
        should try being honest
        for a change and post
        a banner saying:metsblog where
        the uninformed go to
        read the even more uninformed.

Well I would disagree with you there. He aquired Santana without giving up Martinex. keep in mind that the names that were being thrown around at the beginning of those negotiations were Reyes or Wright.

          1. fongy2

            He wasn’t dealing
            with Beane
            AND
            the Twins had just acquired
            Delmon Young
            and had nowhere
            else to go with Johan.

Being from New York I occasionally watch some Yankee games and have a pulse on what goes on over there. It pains me to say this but let me tell you imo they are the team to beat this year. The chemistry is there and unlike years past I see them getting to the WS and maybe winning it. Its hard to put your finger on why but they are getting healthy and have some professional players over there i.e, Jeter, Damon ,Tex, Rivera. They work counts late in games and just know how to play the game right. If Philly gets some pitching I would say both teams are the favs to meet in the WS.

    1. fongy2

Hard for me to be objective
      b/c i’m such a yankee hater
but at some point that age
has gotta catch up with them
      not to mention their Pen.
      Plus Boston is loaded with
      gamers,Pitching,prospects,
money to spend and a far su
      perior front office.
Really though when you have a payroll twice whatanyone elses
is you’re SUPPOSED to be a
      playoff team.So,I’m not impressed.

    2. stickguy

If that is the matchup, I can guarantee I won’t be watching any of the games! Talk about a lose-lose.
