Hey case hopefully we can salvage the series tonite – this id disgraceful

    1. rustyjr

      * is – the id is a freudian slip lol

    2. darknova306

It is disgraceful. To lose a start by our ace to the Pirates… Watch, the only game we’ll win in this series will be Redding’s start. That would be depressingly comedic…

    3. CaseStreet

I expected the game against Duke to be a toss-up w/ our replacements in the lineup. What hurt us is the loss on Monday. I think the Mets will get the next two.

      1. darknova306

You actually think Redding can pitch well against ANYONE at this point? He’s terrible. If we DO win one of the next two games, it’ll realistically be Pelf’s start, and with Beltran still out we’re gonna have a hard time with that game, too.

        1. CaseStreet

True, but he’s facing Jeff Karstens, so even our AAA team will be able to score some runs.

  2. metsfan4decades

Wanted to comment on Rusty’s This Day in Mets Infamy post but there is no reply button for me to comment.

Anyway….love these posts Rusty. It’s amazing how many of these guys I forgot we ever had. I remember Jefferies being touted as the second coming. Uh….NOT.

Daryl and Keith. Would have been no ’86 if not for them along with Doc and Carter and the rest gathered that year…..

    1. rustyjr

i fixed it mf4d – i was fixing some grammar lol

  3. metsfan4decades

And Reyes due back Friday? Here’s hoping he finally steps up to the plate, team wise, and fires up that lineup. I hope he comes back with a real up beat attitude, his typical Jose exuberance and gets those guys going. Looking at what we’ve been fielding these past few weeks, he’s definitely considered one of the veterans in that line up now….

    1. metsfan4decades

Love the MLB scoreboard. And what? Mets were the only NL east team to lose yesterday? Bah….that’s not going to get it done, boys.

  4. dirtysanchez

Well the mets are showing the cracks…they were not built for this type of lineup every night and it is showing. When we start getting our horses back, we should be in better shape. Reyes and church should be back soon and hopefully beltran will be better as well.

  5. CaseStreet

We need three more authors so we can be “The Real Dirty Mets Blog Dozen”

    1. CaseStreet

uh oh, the comments section may have the swine flu

Can we kidnap regis ?? LOL

only if Kelly is coming too.

  6. There's Always '10

On a happy note, the Cheese Pierogie won last night for the first time all season.

    1. rustyjr

Wow I had my money on the hot dog

      1. There's Always '10

I figured the Pirate would win. Argh!

  7. DNDJohan aka kistics

Weak offense is showing now… Dirty, I think we need to get a power bat now.. lol

    1. dirtysanchez

      hahaaha
our power bats are coming my friend…hopefully when beltran comes back(he wont be 100% as im sure the virus drained his energy and strength). Its tough…i wonder whos available…

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I think Beltran might be little bit more serious than we think. If he couldn’t keep any food down yesterday and had to stay at his hotel, he probably won’t play tonight.

Hopefully Cora can help us little bit, but this team needs more consistent bat. Wright’s not right and Sheff is getting tired. There’s no real offensive threat here.

        1. There's Always '10

This team is a debacle right now. We are certainly not shivering the Pirates’ timbers

        2. dirtysanchez

nope..the mets cannot sustain an offensive threat…they have done their best but frankly they are tiring out quickly. This is a gut check moment for this squad..hopefully they will step up to the challenge.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

And this week is supposed to be easy schedule… I hate to live and die with one or two games, but we have been barely getting by offense and like you said, cracks are showing now…

  8. udontmesswthejohan

Well as disappointing as these first two games in Pitt have been the mets are still only 2.5 back and on any given day missing 2 or 3 of their best players. That said, they can’t be expected to go through prolonged stretches without the Triumverate (DW, Jose, and Beltran) and keep pace with the Phils. This team need Reyes back in the worst way and hopefully he will be up to par by Friday.

    1. wannybackstra

I can’t believe I spent so much time typing the same thing just to find that you did it before in a much better and more succinct manner.

  9. wannybackstra

I didn’t see or hear the game last night but I did catch Steve Somers on the FAN after the game. I have to say that sometimes my fellow Mets fans are really embarrassing.

First of all, we need to put the season into perspective. We are 2.5 games out of first place – and have been without our cleanup hitter, leadoff hitter and rightfielder for an extended period of time. We are currently playing without our 3rd hitter and centerfielder. Even the backups to the backups are injured, including the third string shortstop and the sixth outfielder.

Yet, the team is continuing to tread water and that’s about all you can ask for until Reyes, Beltran, Church and eventually Delgado are back in the lineup.

But of course the callers to the FAN last night were ready to walk off the cliff. One suggested, and I s**t you not, that the Mets trade FMart, Parnell, Murphy and Niese all for Nick Johnson. Another decided that the Mets have to make a trade right now or the season is over. Another claimed the season was over because “Joe Putz sucks.” Yes, Joe Putz.

While things are not great today, we need to understand that a 2.5 game deficit is not insurmountable on June 3 and that help is on the way.

    1. mrose

well joe putz may in fact suck…
not sure who he is… but yea..i’ve alraedy been calming mets fans down at work off the ledge…and you know what? if you want to be off the ledge, go for it..but I look at having 4 or 5 regulars out as crazy….but 2.5 games out is doable..

      1. There's Always '10

2.5 games out in the situation they are in? I think it’s a miracle. They just need to reel off a nice little winning streak before the Philly series. Take two of three from Philly and we can be right back in it.

        1. wannybackstra

It sounds like (from the Post) that Jerry is going to demote Joe the Plumber. So according to one FAN caller, the season might be saved already.

          1. There's Always '10

Joe the Plumber, or JJ Cool Putz?

          2. wannybackstra

            LL Cool JJ?

          3. rustyjr

            Jimmie ” j.j walker ??

          4. There's Always '10

            BS Putz

        2. wannybackstra

Surviving this stretch is key. And having the manager not cost us any more games will be an additional key.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Regarding Jerry. I’m sick of him not backing up his players. Why didn’t he come out and argue after Reed got tagged out? It was not a clear play at the home plate and yet (just like Church debacle), Jerry just sat on his hands. WTF??

I think Jerry is afraid go out and argue with the umps after his suspension.

        3. Joe R

Not being negative but Its really not a miracle and not that impressive if you really think about it. Im not saying some of the fill ins havent contributed in major ways i.e, Santos and Sheffield. Otherwise there have been good games and some awful ones…LA series comes to mind. We played great against SF and we had a nice homestand against weak teams. Philly had some pitching problems early on. They are an offense powerhouse and with better pitching going forward and their staff getting it together they are going to be tough to beat imo Its early in the year, we played decently so far so we havent fallen too far behind. It will be a miracle and extremely impressive if by July 1st we arent more than 4-5 games back. I think it would be a huge achievement and a big boost for when we get healthy and add a bat. Its early and we have played ok. We really havent had a chance to fall too far back but here comes the tough schedule. Lets Go Mets!! Hold on!

    2. udontmesswthejohan

I sometimes listen to the Fan in bed before I doze off, but most times I end up tossing and turning and just shut it off. what can you say, in a city of 8 million there are more than your fair share of idiots. I would have loved to hear that call for the Nick Johnson trade. Who was the host? What did he say?

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

there are lots and lots of idiots out there… including me!

      much better wanny(no cursing)

We should frame this and have this as our welcome greeting lol 100% agree

    2. darknova306

Yes, but we still won’t be healthy enough for the brutal schedule that awaits in the heart of June. We’ll be lucky to be less than 10 games out by July. I’m not writing off the season yet, but I don’t really have any confidence at this point.

      1. wannybackstra

Reyes, Beltran and Church should all be back for the Washington series. Well, unless Beltran is dying.

        1. darknova306

Church is a non-factor, Jerry won’t play him often enough for it to matter. He needs regularity and consistency, but Jerry is a terrible manager, so he won’t get that.

Beltran’s gonna need some more time. If he still isn’t keeping solid food down, he’s gonna need time to get his strength back once the virus is gone. I don’t expect him to start in CF again until maybe Monday.

      2. There's Always '10

It’s hard to blame you, but we need to just keep treading water. It’s a two game losing streak. Sure, it’s to the Pirates but this team has surprised you before – by going into Boston and taking two of three shorthanded.

  11. DNDJohan aka kistics

Is it just me or is the comment section all messed up?

    1. There's Always '10

I think the comments sections gets a little out of whack when a comment is edited.

One way to avoid that is to not post comments that require editing :-)

Im getting File 404 errors everytime I submit a comment. The comments are taking but I have to go back to the homepage and click the link again to get back in. It could be my computer at work though. They arent very updated with java, etc

  13. metsfan4decades

O.K. thanks, guys. I figured just a technical glitch. No biggie…

  14. rustyjr

no prob – did u get the thunderstorms by u?

  15. metsfan4decades

Yes, we did. That were pretty intense there for awhile. Luckily, it didn’t last long…

  16. rustyjr

Yeah same here on S. I

  17. Joe R

I didnt hear anything but the ground was soaked when I left. I’m on the south shore of S.I.

I think if by July 1 we arent more than 5 games back it will be a huge achievement. This could get very ugly with this schedule. Even the next 2 against Pirates and then the Nats at best i would say they are toss up games. Dont think realistically we are the favorites going into any of the games in June with maybe Baltimore being an exception and possible when Johan starts if we score lol. Yes we won some games the last couple of weeks with our B team but the competition was less than stellar. If we can hang on here until we get somewhat healthy and maybe acquire a bat I will be proud of this team.

  18. udontmesswthejohan

Where are you again Joe – I’m in Tottenville?

  19. Joe R

I wouldnt worry about getting a starting pitcher unless its via a signing. I would roll the dice on Sheets or Pedro. Yes things can change, but the way Maine, Pelf, and even Livan are pitching we need a bat even when we get healthy. Philly’s offense is going no where and if they acquire a pitcher on top of their pitchers not pitching as bad as it did early in the year they are going to be extremely ridiculously tough. Ibanzez was the signing of all signings for a team that just won the WS and might be in jeopardy of a let down. I think a bat is a must.

  20. rustyjr

I’m in latourette behind the mall – wow so the rumors of more than 2 mets fans in staten island is true LOL

  21. Joe R

    Rossville..right off Woodrow.

  22. Joe R

Lol…I guess so but what is a fact at least in my experience…you rarely find someone wearing Met gear who is a Met fan, that doesnt know alot about baseball and the Mets. On the otherhand many times I have got into a discussion, whether it be at the gym or wherever, with someone who has a Yankee hat on and they know ZERO about anything. I usually stop talking, put a smile on my face, and just nod until they are finished saying ridiculous stuff lol

  23. udontmesswthejohan

SI is mostly Yankees territory, though it does have it’s fair share of Mets fans. Not as many as LI though.
