I loved Vance Wilson. I was really sad to see him go, I thought he was a great backup catcher for us.

The real question about Bannister is, why did we trade him for a Royals reliever with a 7+ERA? Even if Bannister was only a spot starter for us, there was no reason to bring in a flamethrowing reliever that couldn’t command ANY of his pitches. Bannister’s not a great pitcher, but he was a serviceable starter the way Omar thought Redding could be (nice job, Omar…).

Yeah I know but u can’t always blame omar – cashen, Phillips , duquette , harazin, and yes the ultimate ass grant all of made their share if bad trades – I just don’t see what the scouting corps saw other than his 90+ fastball

Benny Agbayani – the ORIGINAL flyin’ Hawaiian. Screw Victorino!

    1. rustyjr

i wouldnt call Benny “flying” lol but he sure did pack a punch when they threw a fastball at him – kinda like Butch Huskey

Well I could certainly rationalize that a guy with less than Greg Maddux stuff who had to pitch like Greg Maddux (and get the wide strike zones that Maddux got) to win could be traded for a 22 year old flamethrower who already had 2 seasons of major league experience and 20 major league saves under his belt.

And I don’t want to start any unnecessary slander so let me preface this by saying I’m not sure I am thinking of the right guy, but could an alternate caption be Billy “The Gay One” Beane?

Yeah grave that one – I just felt I didn’t need tobput his sexual orientation on there

      1. GravediggerHebner

I agree that his sexual orientation doesn’t really matter. I am not trying to denigrate him by pointing it out. Just wasn’t sure if I was remembering the right thing, thanks for confirming.

No – I understand – I was just explaining that with my sarcasm I would generally write that but I was showing restraint

          1. GravediggerHebner

I admire your restraint. Of course, that’s coming from a guy who wrote a post about O-Dog fetching balls.

          2. rustyjr

Well that was too hard to resist LOL

Nice Rusty. I hope you know that Billy
Beane is indeed the same GM of the A’s and Gibbons was the fmr mgr of
the Jays. Also Ed Glynn is the only
frm peanut vendor at Shea who went on
    to play for us.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Yes, nice catch Fongy. I guess when Rusty wrote “I’m not him” he was implying “not the gay one” as opposed to “not the GM of the A’s one.”

The “not the GM of the A’s one” is Billy Bean without the e at the end.

Exactly heb and yes I meant to write about gibbons managing the jays and I forgot about glynn being a peanut vendor – I can’t wait to make a shawn abner post LOL
