good morning to all you Mets maniacs out there (yeah prismo that means you lol ). Its time for the early A.M. edition of “This day in Mets infamy With Rusty” so buckle up kiddies and away we go !!!
First off birthday wishes goes out to utility player extrordinare for the ’67-68 team ( and ex yankee – boo) Phil Linz (1939)
Next up is reserve catcher for the ’98 team Rick “Mr.” Wilkins (1967)
and heres the happenings on this date New York Mets selected Bruce “BOO’S” Boisclair in 20th round of free agent draft on June 4, 1970. – probably one of the most loved yet most putrid players of the late ’70′s teams
New York Mets selected Mauro “remember me?” Gozzo in 13th round of free agent draft on June 4, 1984.
New York Mets selected Brian ‘fullback” Daubach in 17th round of free agent draft on June 4, 1990. – never amounted to much with the mets but he had a decent major leauge career
New York Mets selected Fernando “steroid” Vina in ninth round of free agent draft on June 4, 1990. – i was upset when we traded him to milwaulkee
New York Mets selected Raul “the human speedbump” Casanova in eighth round of free agent draft on June 4, 1990. he was last seen yesterday eating 3 grandslam breakfasts at a denny’s by the buffalo bisons field
New York Mets selected Pete “DY-NO-MITE !!” Walker in seventh round of free agent draft on June 4, 1990.
in second round of free agent draft on June 4, 1990.
New York Mets selected Jeromy Dan Pasquas illegitimate son” Burnitz in first round (17th pick overall) of free agent draft on June 4, 1990. the fans loved him in his first go round – Dallas Green hated him – nuff said
New York Mets selected Dicky “speedy” Gonzalez in 16th round of free agent draft on June 4, 1996.
New York Mets traded Dave Mlicki and Greg McMichael to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Hideo Nomo and Brad Clontz on June 4, 1998. – i’m still scratching my head at this one ( yeah i do that often even with trades that go in our favor lol) – why would you trade a decent #5 starter/ long reliever and a good middle innings reliever for a washed up starting pitcher who’s best days sadly passed him by?
and lastly its time for the Mo Vaugn fact of the day – in 1995 while playing for the Boston Red Sox Mo was banned from the Kennedy Family Clam Bake because he ate all the clams !! When pressed on specifics Ted Kennedy could only shake his head and say “ER AHH he ya did’nt even saave us a yeear of corn ..”

The first Mets “fake jersey actual t-shirt” that I ever bought was a “Nomo.” Finally threw it away recently, it was all faded and torn. Yup. Still have my “Leiter” though.
