And he shall be Livan, and he shall be a good man
Livan Hernandez was a good man for the New York Mets on the mound today, throwing 116 pitches over 7 shutout innings, ensuring that the 5 runs the Mets scored in the top of the 1st inning would hold up. It was Hernandez’ 6th quality start in 11 appearances. Pedro Feliciano, Bobby Parnell and Francisco Rodriguez took care of the last 2 innings and the Mets defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 7-0.
The Mets spread the offense throughout the lineup and throughout the game with 11 hits, 2 each by David Wright, Daniel Murphy and Ryan Church. They tacked on single runs in the 7th and 9th innings.

Wild Pitch indeed
The Mets scored 2 of their 5 1st inning runs on wild pitches. Nats pitchers threw 4 wild pitches overall. Alex Cora lead off the 1st with a walk and scored on Fernando Martinez‘ double. Martinez moved to 3rd on a Carlos Beltran groundout and scored on the first of starter Craig Stammen‘s 2 wild pitches.  Wright then walked, stole 2nd, and scored on a single by Murphy. Church doubled Murphy to 3rd who then scored on Stammen’s 2nd wild pitch. Brian Schneider drove in Church with a sacrifice fly to round out the scoring.

For three games anyway
The Mets wrapped up their road trip 2-4 and now head home for a 3 game series against the Philadelphia Phillies before making the grueling road trip to the Bronx to take on Satan The New York Yankees.

can Livan be our number 2 ? j/k – but seriously when him and johan are our 2 most consistant pitchers – thats scary – and not in a good way

More proof, amid all this talk about a bat, that we still need a solid 2/3 to slot Livan where he belongs – as a darn good number 5. Especially with all this talk about Maine’s shoulder!

Great game. Great wrap up, as usual.
Oh…and I was waiting for someone to do the Elton John ‘Livan’ reference. You didn’t disappoint, Grave!
I still say we’re one injury to SP away from a disaster. I know we need a bat but our depth at starting pitching scares me. IF Ollie comes back as serviceable, I’ll bet he’ll be a 5th type starter this year. Livan technically is (although his line this year moves him up a slot, to me) and Redding is still a question mark and a 5th starter. If Livan keeps cruising, and Redding does what he did in his last start and Ollie makes it back, then we’ll be O.K. Lots of ifs there…
And welcome back, Church. We know his defense is very good. Here’s hoping he provides some consistent offense and stabilizes this lineup somewhat.

well thats because redding is not even supposed to be a starter…he is supposed to eat up innings in the bullpen. Ollie will be back for better or worse and redding will be banished to the bullpen where he belongs. I agree with you regarding depth and hopefully omar can pick up a guy or two on the waiver wire, but for right now..figgy is our guy if something were to go wrong with a starter and then niese.

prob is Omar won’t make a move until he knows the deal w/ Ollie. I hope Ollie comes back and has a good 2nd half. Having him comeback strong would make the rotation so much better, not that it’s been bad.
