Game Time: 7:10pm

Record: 7-3 Era: 2.00 K: 89 BB: 21 WHIP: 1.11
Mets Notes:
-
Santana uncharacteristically surrendered run-scoring extra-base hits to left-handed hitters in his most recent start, Tuesday night against the Pirates. The successive doubles in the sixth were his undoing. He lost for the second time in nine starts. Now, because of the rainout in Pittsburgh Thursday, Santana faces the Phillies at home, where he seldom loses, rather than the Nationals on the road. He threw seven scoreless, two-hit innings against the Phillies at Citi Field in a game the Mets won, 1-0, May 6. The Mets have won Santana’s last three starts against the Phillies.
-
The southpaw is 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA in six starts against the Phillies since joining New York. He held them to two hits and struck out 10 in seven innings of a 1-0 win May 6.
-
Santana has been especially sharp against the top of the Phillies’ lineup. Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and Chase Utley have combined to go 6 for 55 (.109) against the two-time AL Cy Young Award winner.
-
Nine of Santana’s last 10 outings have been quality starts, although he lost his last outing after giving up three runs in six innings of a 3-1 defeat at Pittsburgh last Tuesday.
-
Reliever J.J. Putz has undergone surgery to remove a bone spur and fragments of bone from his right elbow. The Mets said after Tuesday’s operation at the Hospital for Special Surgery that he is expected to start throwing in about six weeks. The team hopes Putz returns to games in 10 to 12 weeks.

Phillies Notes:
-
Happ is coming off the longest stint of his brief career. He went seven shutout innings against the Padres, allowing just four hits. He struck out four and walked two in the Phillies’ 5-1 victory over the Padres. He threw 112 pitches, 71 for strikes. He began the season in the bullpen before being moved into the rotation on May 19. He pitched six strong innings against the Yankees in New York, allowing two runs on four hits. The Phillies are 6-2 in his eight career starts. He has made 15 appearances, three of them as a starter, this season.
-
The Phillies have won 17 of 23 overall and 13 of 17 on the road since getting swept in a two-game set in Queens from May 6-7. Their 21-8 road record is the best in the majors, one year after their 44-37 mark away from home was the best in the NL.
-
Left-hander J.A. Happ has been a bigger part of Philadelphia’s success lately, going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts since joining the rotation. He threw seven shutout innings in a 5-1 win over San Diego on Wednesday and is holding opponents to a .181 batting average this year. Happ has thrown 5 2-3 shutout innings in relief against the Mets this year.

LGM! Ice Cube once said something about “dead in a puddle of red,” I wonder if he was rapping about Phillies Red.

Damn, 4 popups and 2 Ks…..remember Sid Fernandez? If his first two innings were like that, we were in for a win….

Jerry Manuel should be fired. You have to argue that miscall on the Tatis slide, you have to.

Yeah, but Tatis did not argue at all. I mean, the replay clearly showed he was safe, but still, if Tatis did not argue at all….
Jerry should get some credit. We have had the worst injuries this team has seen since probably 1987 and we sit 2 games from 1st, and 22-13 since the 9–12 start.

Thank goodness Santana is such a competitor. He bailed us out there. We have some calls coming though. The miscall at the plate with Tatis was huge and then the ump squeezing Sheff with the bases loaded. Those are game changing calls. PS – Fire Jerry.

Who should replace Jerry? Seriously, who?
Tim Teufel is my only thought.

Awesome win. This was awesome!

Yeah, my thoughts too…I really thought tonight might be the night KRod might blow one. Not even close.
Could we be looking at a Lidge 2008 or Willie Hernandez 1984 season here? Those two teams did OK…..

All I can say is….thank you, Omar.
What a difference a year makes. I liked Billy but held my breath every time he came in. This year, I have all kinds of confidence KRod is gonna shut the door.
And I still cannot believe the Angels fans, both end of last season and even now with Fuentes, STILL don’t wish they had KRod. Couldn’t take the drama? What a bunch of wimps. They don’t know what drama is – LOL.

That makes one of us. Never like Billy and never thought he would shut up. Krod tells everyone else to shut up.

Johan on the post game show….he’s still pissed Jerry took him out. Says ‘he’s my skipper and I respect him but I told him I have enough stuff left to do this and I’m a man’.
Johan is a competitor and a true gamer.
