Slurm Post Game: New York Mets 6, Philadelphia Phillies 5

It's Highly Addictive

It's Highly Addictive

TRDMB is pleased to welcome a new sponsor for the post game wrap, just for this 3 game series versus the Philadelphia Phillies.  Slurm soft drink.  It’s highly addictive.

At least for one night, the home run was a reality at Citi Field.  7 times.  The Philadelphia Phillies made themselves at home in two ways:  they hit 4 home runs, and they lost the game.  The New York Mets added 3 home runs of their own and held on to win 6-5.

It was not one of Johan Santana‘s (8-3) best starts, but he pitched into the 8th inning, leaving after giving up a lead off home run to Chase Utley (13).  Bobby Parnell replaced him and allowed a single to Jayson Werth, the only batter he would face.  Pedro Feliciano came on and induced Ryan Howard to ground into a 4-6-3 double play, then got Raul Ibanez to ground out to 2nd to end the inning.  Francisco Rodriguez allowed a lead off single to Jimmy Rollins in the 9th but held on to record his 16th save in 16 opportunities, firmly grasping the baton of NL East closer perfection that Brad Lidge dropped on his way to the disabled list.

Carlos belted one

The Mets got the early lead when David Wright hit a solo homer (4) in the 2nd inning, his first in 100 at bats, then extended the lead to 3-0 on a Carlos Beltran 2-run homer (8) in the 3rd.  The Phillies announced that they would not go quietly into the night in the top of the 4th on back-to-back solo home runs by Howard (18) and Ibanez (20), then took the lead in the 6th on a 2-run homer by Rollins (4).

The Mets ruined dessert throughout metropolitan Philadelphia by regaining the lead in the bottom of the 6th, sending 8 batters to the plate and scoring twice on an RBI double by Santana and an Alex Cora RBI single.  A solo home run by Ryan Church (2) in the bottom of the 7th inning capped the Mets scoring, and proved to be a valuable insurance run when Utley’s 8th inning shot cut the lead to 1 run.

Santana is becoming quite the adventure. Getting racked around by lefties, lot’s of walks that one game, etc.

Do we expect too much, or is he not looking right lately? Is it just me?

A start in Satan’s own band box vs. a team with lots of power should be a good tell on him.

Hey, at lest he didn’t throw a ton of pitches tonight!

And I really hate the phils.

    Slurm soft drink…lol.

What a game. We knew we had the advantage with the match up but didn’t exactly win that the way everyone figured. Even though Johan didn’t have his best stuff, he battled, he showed up with his bat, he showed up with his glove and ‘I’m a man’ – did not want to come out of that game, no matter how Jerry tried to spin it. Johan is a gamer.
And Pedro did exactly what we need Pedro to do in that spot. Kudos to him.
Krod 16 for 16 – thank you, Omar.
Good to see bat contributions up and down the line up tonight.

Mets 4-5 with the Phils so far this year. Keep it going tomorrow, Big Pelf.f

And Steve Summers – hahahahaha – he was all over the ‘big, bad Phillies’ in his opening monologue tonight. It was like ‘take that, stick it in your pipe and smoke it’.

I missed Schmooz tonight. Gotta find the opening now.

Great Win! Proof positive that Players
not Field Managers Win and Lose, its
just that Mgrs pay the price for the
    Players failings.Quite a number of
moves by both Manuels left me scratching my head, the final one
being pulling Johan after 90 pitches
with the 2 most dangerous Lefties
    coming up. Great Victory though.
B/T/W,Ryan Church must go AND Pmar
    must upgrade the position.Talk about
    bad professional ABs,his 4th inning
    bases loaded plate appearance could
have been the single reason we lost
this game if we don’t get the 2 runs
late.Oh, and Slappy is starting to
    look like slappy again.

I always count on you to find the cloud inside the silver lining and you have yet to disappoint.

    2. Kingman 26

Geez Fong, did you see Church’s homer?

Johan gave up 4 HR….the pen was rested and excellent.

And your wedding is approaching, no? Good luck buddy!!

      1. fongy2

Thank You Sir for the good wishes!
        I’m inside 100hrs now.
        My point on Church is
        that up 3-0 Bases loaded,one out,Rookie-
soft tosser who cant find the plate,Church
swings at the 1st 2 pitches 10&6inches inside off the plate.
        We score no further,
        Johan throws a breaking
        pitch which does break
        THEN an 0-2 meatball to
        Howard and Ibanez and
        5mins later instead
        of 5/6-0 its 3-2 and
        I’ve got agita.

        1. Kingman 26

Fong, I hope everything goes perfectly on Saturday sir!

The past several days have been very stressful! Last

            Saturday
            it’ll be all good as
            they say in the ‘hood.

          2. stickguy

You in mid-PA, right? Should be beautiful on Saturday for you. Sunny and low 80s.

“The Philadelphia Phillies made themselves at home in two ways: they hit 4 home runs, and they lost the game.”

    LOL!!!!!

    1. Mr North Jersey

I just wanna know how da hell do you get the inspiration to use Slurm?

      1. GravediggerHebner

It’s a twisted homage to the “Pepsi Refresh” (or whatever it’s called) used elsewhere.

    2. CaseStreet

kingman, what r we gonna do about grandpa? I don’t want to have to go Tanya Harding on him.

  8. Mr North Jersey

Leela: How can you trick people into drinking something that comes from your behind? It’s disgusting!

Slurm Queen: Is it? Honey comes from a bee’s behind. Milk comes from a cow’s behind. And have you ever tried toothpaste.

Fry: Whose behind does that come from?

Slurm Queen: You don’t want to know.

I must say my very soon to be wife

            Rooting openly

            Wasn’t easy,
            especially having
to listen to McCarthy,Matthews and Wheeler
go on and on about our failings the last couple yrs…

          2. GravediggerHebner

Talking about the Mets and fiddling with their World Series rings are apparently the only thing the Phillies and their entourage do.

  9. stickguy

ws poking around looking at MLBTR, for rumors on who the Mets were or should be looking at.

What kind of OF is Brad hawpe? He has been more productive over the last few years than I realized, and even has remarkably consistant home/away splits. Plus he isn’t old.

Also signed through 2011. Not cheap, but not crazy money either. Basically looks like a more expensive, but way more productive ans consistant, Church.

Rox just looking to dump salary? I would take this guy if the prospect return was not of consequence (taking on the salary). F Mart could go back down for seasoning, Sheff to the bench (platoon also with CHurch). And sort out who to keep after the season.

    1. fongy2

Love Hawpe BUT it would take FMart to get him.

  10. fongy2

Bravo! To Johan showing some Fire
out there and not wanting to come out!
Also, the Phillies casters were worse
than usual! Goin’ on and on about how
the Phils were in the Mets heads and
how even w/KRod there was still a fear factor with the fans late in games. Are they lost or what?
And shame on Tom McCarthy! Although
they did atleast admit Tatis WAS safe
at the plate. AND how bad was the HomePlate Ump tonight?

    1. GravediggerHebner

      That ump was terrible.

Before we respectfully butt heads on anything else please let me say about your upcoming wedding:

May you have a beautiful day, an even better night, and a wonderful rest of your long happy healthy lives together.

      1. fongy2

        Thank You! The kind
        words ARE appreciated!
Heb,would YOU take a chance on a Hawpe for
        FMart deal?
        I respect your opinion.
Plus,I think now is the time to make a move on theses phils
        w/Lidge out ’cause I
        think their whole Pen
        could collapse w/o
        a Closer.

        1. GravediggerHebner

Like you I’ve been around to see failed OF prospect after failed OF prospect so I can see the wisdom in dealing FMart. I have this strong bad feeling that if we do trade him young, he’ll go on to be very good, and if we hold onto him until he’s 26, he’ll be underwhelming.

I would not be opposed to dealing him but I would hope for “a more exciting” return than Hawpe. He’s useful and productive, but he doesn’t have “zazz.”

Mostly though I hope we hold onto him and he develops into a player at least good enough so that we can seriously say he’s the best OF we’ve developed since Straw.

          1. fongy2

            Similar
            feelings.
I’ve seen the kid plat some since’07
and watched him grow and certainly plenty of pros know more than me.
            I just dont see
any unique skillthere and now with the clock ticking
            toward his
            3&6 yr status’
            youre
            right he could
            muddle
around,go some place else at 26 then become a star.
That said though I wouldnt trade him for
            a runof themill
            player.
            I think Hawpe is
close to a star and although I know his numbers are fairly close home and road,I dont trust Rockie Players.

          2. GravediggerHebner

I don’t know how appropriate this might be because I haven’t seen Hawpe firsthand much, but I get a lefthanded Kevin McReynolds without the speed feeling from Hawpe. Which is a good player in my opinion. I hear you about not trusting Rockies, but based on the home/road stuff I’d trust Hawpe more than Holliday.

Sorry didn’t mean to do that. I was just thinking about corner OF who threw well and hit high 20′s homers and drove in high 90′s runs, which they both roughly are with a slight edge to Hawpe that might be related to the era in which they play.

Slurm is the largest brand of carbonated beverage in the universe. Manufactured on the planet Wormulon, this refreshingly addictive product, is exported to virtually every planet known to man. Few people have been lucky enough to actually visit the Slurm manufacturing unit, but those who have describe it as a fairytale ride, except for the workers of the plant, known as Grunka Lunkas. Those guys are hideous.

Slurm is a green, almost flourescent, liquid that’s usually bought in 33cl cans, although 150cl bottles are available, too. Slurm is highly addictive, but has so far not been conclusively linked to ailments.

Slurm was promoted by it’s highly popular mascot, Slurms MacKenzie, until his tragic and fatal work-related accident in 3000.

In 3000 crackpot inventer Hubert J Farnsworth claimed Slurm came from the butt of a giant slug. Reactions were lighthearted condescending.

Was at the game tonight. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions, from one extreme to the other. Just glad we pulled it out.
