This day in Mets infamy 6/9/09

good morning boys and girls its time for yet another edition of everyones favorite tidmits of Mets trivia – yes it’s time for (cue giant echo) “THIS DAY IN METS INFAMY WITH RUSTY”. ok so sit back grab your “Brett Meyers is a wife beater coffee mug and lets get down to buisness

Birthday greeting go out to former the former Mets outfielder who we got in exchange with Micky Loilich for Rusty ” hi dad” Staub -BillY “BOOOOOO !!! ” Baldwin (1950)
also celebrating another year of living is the little known prospect that was traded along with Lenny ” Nails” Dykstra and Roger “Hotfoot” McDowell in the abysmal trade for Juan ” Phillie for life” Samuel – Tom “garden of” Edens (1961)
and lastly celebrating a birthday is pitching prospect who never quite made it – Jason “Randy” Anderson (1979)

New York Mets released Tim “CORKY” Corcoran on June 9, 1986. – For some reason he is one of my all time favorite Mets scrubs

New York Mets traded Terry “rubber arm” Leach to the Kansas City Royals for Aguedo ” what the frig is a Aguedo ” Vasquez on June 9, 1989.

New York Mets signed free agent Doug “hairbreath harry” Sisk on June 9, 1990. – funny thing about Sisk – he suffered from the girl with the curl syndrome ( you know when she was good, she was very very good . But when she was bad to quote the infamous O.J Simpson “LOOK OUT!! )

New York Mets traded Tim Burke to the New York Yankees for Lee Guetterman on June 9, 1992. – One of the very rare trades between both teams, and imo we shoulda kept Burke

New York Mets traded Blas “BLAH !” Minor to the Seattle Mariners for Randy Vickers on June 9, 1996. I guess you could say it was a “Minor deal ” – get it?? “MINOR DEAL HA !” – oh nevermind!

New York Mets traded Kaz “the wrong” Matsui to the Colorado Rockies for Eli Marrero on June 9, 2006.

and lastly the Mo Vaughn tidbit for do day is he practices fung shui.

Didn’t we also pay Colorado cash to take Matsui? We couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.

God i cant believe we traded nailz and roger to philly. Dykstra was a player with that grit and edge. I remember watchin i believe his 1st game as a phillie against the mets and he got a triple asap. I was young but, still remember that and the phils wih their burgundy jerseys.

Yea. I was very young and knew it was bad at that age. Sad.

Just a drop in the bucket in the steady stream of bad deals our organization has made in their 47 year history

I don’t think some of the scouts in those days had a clue. Some these trades made no sense at all….

Funny thing is mf4d whitey herzog was one of our best scouts and he was blind sided by the amos otis and nolan ryan deals and he also was the heir apparent. GM but he couldn’t stand M Donald. Grant. Could u imagine what coulda been if he states ? I think leauge dominance during the ’70′s
