Gameday Weather 6/9/09

The Mets generally step it up against the Phlunkees – let’s hope for more of the same tonight!the_drizzle

Mets vs Phillies
CitiField at 7:10pm
Temperature: 69°F
Overcast, drizzle and light rain possible
Wind from the east, 5-9mph.

Update: by the way, there will be much more significant rainfall in the city throughout the day, but I’m expecting the heavier rains to subside by 7pm. There’s a chance they’ll linger and cause a delay, but I think the game should play as scheduled.

Live Radar

CitiField; Wednesday, 7:10pm – 68°F [Overcast, drizzle and light rain possible]
CitiField; Thursday, 7:10pm – 71°F [Overcast, showers likely - and possibly a thunderstorm]

I’m all for Santana sending a message a plunking Vicky. I know trs feels a little differently, what’s everyone’s opinion?

    1. rustyjr

Well I’m hoping for a perfect game but – just to send a warning to them – I guess I’m on board for that – cuz u know f***nutly willcrowd the plate to get plunked intentionally

    2. darknova306

Gotta plunk him. Especially in front of the home crows. He deserves nothing less. Obviously you can’t do it in a situation where it’ll hurt the team, but it should be done. We need to send a message to these classless clowns.

      1. sabermetrician

I agree that we have to plunk him. If we do it in the first inning we clear it up right away. I have enough confidence Johan can prevent them from scoring even with their leadoff man on. Pedro used to do it in Boston and it sent very effective messages.

        1. darknova306

Agreed, first inning and be done with it. Would be funny to put him on then immediately throw him out stealing. I’d have a celebratory shot or two after that. :)

          1. sabermetrician

Oh man. I’d be dancing in my living room if they did that.

    3. prismo

I’m fine with plunking him, but I’m also fine if he doesn’t.

      1. sabermetrician

I’m not looking for a lot, just a couple of broken ribs.

        1. There's Always '09

What’s the deal with plunking Vic? What did he say now?

          I’d rather plunk Werth.

          1. Joe R

My question too? Did i miss something?

  4. dirtysanchez

    lol the drizzle..good one pris

    1. rustyjr

      It’s only a downpour LOL

  5. There's Always '09

I love it when it rains for like 5 days straight, then we get two days of sunshine. Then it rains for 5 days straight again. This weather sucks.

    1. rustyjr

      Are we in seatle ?

    2. prismo

I’m not sure what it’s been like in NY exactly…probably similar to here; but in DC the pattern’s been: nonstop rain on weekdays, beautiful and warm weekends. I guess I can’t complain too much…

      1. There's Always '09

I wouldn’t complain if i was driving to work. But taking the subways in the rain is a nightmare.

      2. sabermetrician

It’s true, although it slows down the commute on 66. (Why can’t people in VA, MD, DC drive in the rain!!!???)

        1. prismo

Worst drivers EVER in this area. If it’s raining at all they slow down to 40mph on the highway, but KEEP THEIR LIGHTS OFF. Morons, seriously. Plus 66 is a terrible, terrible road – I’m glad I don’t use it often.

  6. rustyjr

And I wonder still I wonder who’ll stop the rain

    1. prismo

haha, not sure! My coworker who’s a Phillies fan is more pessimistic than I am – he thinks the rain might last longer…

      1. sabermetrician

I’m glad you refer to that Philth as a “coworker” and not as a friend.

        1. prismo

Actually he is a friend; a very good friend!

          1. sabermetrician

            You disgust me.

          2. prismo

            Thanks for the support!

          3. sabermetrician

Of course I’m joking, where do you work Prismo? I’m out in Arlington. Watson Wyatt.

          4. prismo

Rockville! Not sure what Watson Wyatt means though…

          5. sabermetrician

That’s my company. It’s a human capital investment firm. I’m an actuary. I work in Ballston to be more specific.

    2. There's Always '09

After the rain, washes away the tears and all the pain….

  7. CaseStreet

    Tnx, Prismo.

You were spot on w/ my little league practice last Friday.

I was debating whether to go to tonight’s game but since you’ve guaranteed it will be played, I’m going.

    1. prismo

Oh god. what what what. I didn’t guarantee it! Don’t put all that pressure on me!! I just think it will be. My coworker is 50-50 on the situation.

      1. Joe R

Yes thank you Prismo! I just bet my mortage in Vegas that the rain wouldnt even cause a delay tonight! Big Money Big Money!!

        1. prismo

I expect a portion of the cut.

          1. Joe R

No problem….will u also take a portion of the self mutilation I will perform when I lose? lol maybe not funny if anyone has had gambling problems…my bad!

  8. There's Always '09

If the game gets rained out, can you change the name of this thread to Off-day Weather?

  9. Joe R

While dodging the rain drops this morning in NYC a gust of wind blew and i swear I felt and smelled a trade from Omar in the near distance! Its getting closer and Im excited like waiting for hurricane Gloria to hit!

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I was smelling the same thing this morning in Jersey!

      1. Joe R

        And it smells good!!

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

It smells like fish to me….

          1. Joe R

            I like fish..

          2. rustyjr

Are u sure that wasn’t the wacky weed?

          3. There's Always '09

  11. DNDJohan aka kistics

    Thanks a bunch Prismo!!

Do you know how to do a Stop Rain Dance? I cannot stand this rainy days anymore!!

    1. Joe R

Yea the not knowing is the annoying part!

    2. There's Always '09

Popcorn head Werth is doing a rain dance cause he knows I’ll be there! With my Santana Claus jersey.

      1. rustyjr

There ain’t no such thing as santana clause !!!

        1. There's Always '09

The Nina, Pita, and the Santana Maria.

  12. DNDJohan aka kistics

Did you guys see on Matts Blog on Chipper’s comments on Citi? DWright is frustrated?

    1. khmustache

yeah, i heard it on the ripken show. i think it’s probably true on a couple of long flyballs, but i also wouldn’t put it past larry to try and stir the pot a little.

    2. Joe R

Of course he is…wouldn’t you be? Not a story here. He was just joking with Chipper. Merely making conversation. Im sure it bothers him a bit when he hits the ball but thats where it ends. I’m sure he’s not staying up at night or even thinking about during the game unless he hits a ball he thinks should be gone. D Wright is hitting with 0 power this year which is frustrarting. Im sure it will turn around soon imo.

      1. Joe R

Its just disappointing to me that with all the little quirks the Mets tried to add to Citi with the big walls, the Pepsi Porch, the weird angles, nothing has given the field an identity! A little depressing to me. I mean if they want it to play like a pitchers park, what would have been nice, would have been if there was somewhere in the park where it was easy to hit a HR. Yes the lines arent that bad but to give it an identity and some flare, which is what they were looking for, maybe exteding the Pepsi Porch over the field even more and moving that fence in would have done it imo. I mean does it even matter the stands extend like 4 ft. onto the field? Barely notice should have made it a bit more imo

        1. There's Always '09

You mean like a flag pole and hill in center field?

        2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Yankee stadium and Citi should be combined…

      2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Yeah you are probably right. Wright probably said it in a half jokingly manner. But his HRs have dried out this season… very weird season for him.

    3. udontmesswthejohan

I can understand his frustration to a certain extent, but the truth of the matter is that he is not hitting home runs on the road either. In any event, I expect him to get off the snide this week and jack some.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Playing in the Yankee stadium would help…
