Weather Update

northeast_loop

Ladies and Gents...cross your fingers!

Based on the trajectories of the currently developed thunderstorms across the Northeast…they’ll all miss the city. Unfortunately, storm forecasting is never that easy. I still see a hot area across northeastern PA, which could eventually blow up into more storms as this system rolls eastward. The seemingly good news is that even if that does blow up as it reaches Flushing, it’ll likely be before or around 7pm. So I’m thinking a 45 minute delay, at most. Leaning towards an on-time start though.

All we can do right now is cross our fingers, but I still think the game will be on tonight.

Let’s Go Mets!

I appreciate the update Prismo. I can’t type with crossed fingers so I crossed my dog’s paws, I hope that will do.

  2. mrose

seriously, having prismo alone makes us better than other mets blogs
    lol

    1. prismo

Thanks! That makes me feel semi-useful. :)

    2. Kingman 26

Yeah, I agree! Well said MRose….

    3. metsfan4decades

I second that. Live weather map. How cool is that? Nice work, prismo.

  3. GravediggerHebner

So the radar image of a storm just sort of suddenly appears out of Canada as it crosses the Maine border. Is that us respecting Canada’s privacy or do storms really just start there? 8)

    1. prismo

That’s just the range limitations of the US radar, specifically the northernmost one in Maine. The NWS (National Weather Service) is part of the US Government, so they just don’t integrate the Canadian radar into their mosaics.

      1. rustyjr

        hippa laws lol

  4. DNDJohan aka kistics

    You Da Man Prismo!

  5. rustyjr

damn prismo u r state of the art
btw guys mlbtr brought a possible aquisition that would be interesting – Brad Hawpe what do you think?

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I was going to say the same thing. I looked at his numbers and it really doesn’t impress me. His numbers are average outside of Coors this season. He looks like a 25-85 type of guy and Nick Johnson would provide us with similar numbers…

      1. oleosmirf

but what do you do with Johnson and Delgado in September?

at this point I dont see why trading any of our better prospects for rental players make sense. just too many holes to fill…

        1. rustyjr

i agree – i just hope reyes gets back soon and omar doesnt make any panic moves

        2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Hawpe would be the same situation. I’d rather go for Willingham than Hawpe.

          1. rustyjr

willingham isnt even all bat – no glove he’s more of a jay payton type sans the glove

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

I also heard Heyman mentioning Hermida from the Marlins. I don’t know how realistic that would be, but he would be a great addition.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        Nevermind.. Hermida stinks…

        1. rustyjr

lol just finding this out? i’s rather have cantu from the marlins or jacobs back

  6. stickguy

As I rambled on before, either get someone as a salary dump (so no real prospects back), or if you are giving up something of value, make sure it is for a player that fills a hole for next year.

    1. rustyjr

who is out there that is a true salary dump but can help us? only person that comes to mind is magglio

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Well it depends on what the definition is salary dump is… I think Dunn, Lee, Huff and Mags can all be salary dumps. Teams will save something like 5-8 mil if these players are traded. In this economy, it’s a lot of money especially for small market teams.

I think Mets have a good opportunity and Omar should do something about it…

        1. oleosmirf

the problem is where is Dunn going to play? He makes Murphy look like Willie Mays out there in the field. Dunn would be perfect for the Red Sox though…

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Yes, Dunn is terrible defensively and is a good fit for the BoSox. But he has so much power. Tatis/Sheff/FMart wouldn’t be all that much better than Dunn. I’ll take the bad defense over 3-run HRs at this point.

        2. rustyjr

mets don’t want dunn and i doubt the wilpons will give omar the free reign to aquire carlos lee

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Huff would be a good choice too.

          2. rustyjr

yeah but baltimore is still steaming mad about us fleecing them for maine

  7. billydeewilliams

Every day this place amazes me more. Well done prismo.

    1. rustyjr

it truely is so much better – i think Cerrone underestimated us

      1. Kingman 26

        Cerrone overestimates himself!

The posts, perspective, writing, and AMAZING graphics on here blow that site away.

And the daily features like Prismo Linday Young’s weather and that other guy’s history moment make this site even MORE unique and outstanding!

        :-)

        1. rustyjr

          HEEEEEEEEELOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TOLEDOOOOO!!!

          1. rustyjr

            THANKS kong im blushing lol

        2. metsfan4decades

hahaha- ‘that other guy’s history moment’….

I enjoyed reading those daily tidbits over on the ‘old’ blog. Now that Rusty’s got his own post on this, they’re even funnier….

          1. Kingman 26

Yeah, of course I meant that as a playful joke. EVERYONE on this site knows Mr. Staub’s little boy….

          2. rustyjr

yeah and when i meet “poppa” at the mets store at “Gil Hodges Memorial Stadium at Payson Field ” ill ask him to take a D.N.A test lol – actually ill ask him if i can schedule a interview with him for this blog

          3. Kingman 26

            Yes, a father-son interview!!

That would be a Day in Mets Infamy in and of itself!!

          4. rustyjr

lol yeah William Daniel Staub would have a massive heart attack right there and i would be banished from mets land to bogeyland (yankeetown)

      2. GravediggerHebner

We can’t use “Grand Central Station of Mets Information” but how about:

        The LaGuardia of Mets Ardia

The JFK International of Mets Ational

        The Hub of Mets Bub

The Water Cooler of Mets Droolers

        and my personal fave

The Penn Station of Mets Information

        1. Kingman 26

LOL! I think my favorite thing I ever saw on Metsblog (other than comments from people like you Grave) was the One Team, One Million GMs slogan….that is awesome.

        2. rustyjr

hows about the Acropolous for the Mets populace?

          1. Kingman 26

            THAT is good….seriously….

          2. rustyjr

yeah to bad matt didnt take that slogan to heart -1 team 1 million gms i mean

  8. oleosmirf

the offseason was the time for adding players. With all the bargains available during the offseason, we should have had a better lineup/rotation to start with.

    1. rustyjr

yes and no oleo – even though we knew ollie is a headcase -he was the best pitcher available – who knew he’d be on the dl by the 2nd month of the season

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        Atlanta Braves knew… LOL….

        sigh….

        1. rustyjr

kisticshindsight is 20/20 and i wanted lowe then i want him now but i agreed with omars rationale just like i want ibanez right now lol

      2. oleosmirf

well i didnt see him getting injured but i expected him to be bad this year. Luckily for us Livan and Sheffield have stepped it up or else more people would want him fired.

He did a terrible job this offseason and i can understand the Putz move so i will not criticize him for that. What i will criticize him for is neglecting the SP and the lineup…

        1. Kingman 26

Yeah, signing KRod right away clearly adds more fuel to your argument….

          1. oleosmirf

K-Rod was no-brainer and was a lock to the Mets from day 1. but after the winter meetings what did Omar do to better team???

i dont count Livan or Sheffield as those were not part of Omar’s “plan”. they just fell into his lap…

          2. rustyjr

            true

          3. Kingman 26

Oleo, if he gets no credit for KRod, Livan and Shef, your entire argument has no meaning.

We are supposed to only judge Omar on bad moves and the guys he did not sign?

OK, let’s agree to disagree; I am really trying my best not to be obnoxious on this lovely site. We both are most definitely entitled to our opinions.

I really think you have to judge Omar by all of the moves. You want to judge him on Ollie and not signing Lowe and a power bat. I choose to judge him on that AND KRod, JJ (who may yet be damn valuable for us), Livan, Shef, Santos, etc too.

        2. metsfan4decades

I don’t think he ignored the SP. His first choice was Lowe and that didn’t pan out. So he rolled the dice with Ollie and we all know how that worked out.
If we didn’t have so many injuries, especially Delgaodo, the only thing we’d be debating right now is how awful Murph is playing LF. The time to get a bat though was in the off season, that I agree with.

And he did get us KRod.

          1. oleosmirf

his first choice was Ollie. If Omar wanted Lowe that badly he would have been here…

          2. rustyjr

i think that was more tony b and jeff wilpon to be honest – kinda like the manny r fiasco

          3. metsfan4decades

Oleo, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. He wanted Lowe first. He just wasn’t giving him 4 years and the Braves did. So I guess you could look at it like he didn’t want him all that badly, or at whatever cost – sorta like the Yankees and C.C.

    2. Kingman 26

Oleo, what do you like better–

A Met win, or complaining about things that are long over and done with?

And we added KRod, JJ, Livan, Sheffield, and others.

      1. rustyjr

kong as much as i agree with u i do admit this organization stopped short when it came to the bench and another power bat

        1. Kingman 26

Really? I think Cora, Castro/Santos, Tatis, Reed, etc are a real good bench. I respectfuly suggest that the problem is that they have been forced to start too much.

I agree about the power bat. I spent a good portion of my winter arguing with the “we have too many lefty bats” morons, arguing for Ibanez or Dunn….

          1. rustyjr

i see your point – just when the reserves went down – all we have left is sawdust

      2. oleosmirf

well i care most about a mets playoff appearence and they way this team is currently constructed (even when Delgado and Reyes are back) wont cut it.

besides Wright and Beltran the rest of the starters are below average.

        1. rustyjr

          f-mart below average?!?

          1. oleosmirf

he’s batting .200 with 0 HR and 5 RBI. you cant factor upside and potential into production

          2. rustyjr

i thought he was batting over .300

        2. Kingman 26

Well, our lineup with Reyes and Delgado out is a problem, no doubt, but who could have figured Jose would get hurt?

I am pretty much with you on Church now, though. Unless he plays every day and stays healthy the rest of this year and puts up good numbers, I agree he probably never will.

But sorry man, Castillo is not below average, our catchers are not below average, and a Shef/FMart platoon in LF is not below average. They are all certainly at least average.

          1. oleosmirf

Church is below average, Castillo (.277 0 HR 13 RBI) is below average, Murphy (.247 4HR 19 RBI) is below average, Sheffield is currently on pace for 17 HR and 70 RBI but i dont see that happening.

but who i’ve been wrong once or twice so far this year…

          2. Mr North Jersey

Guys before we argue what average is can we 1st define it?

          3. Kingman 26

Castillo’s OBP is .378, he has 30 runs scored, virtually never strikes out, and has fielded very well. You are cherry picking stats. And HR and BA (unless he is hitting maybe .220 and not drawing walks) for Castillo are next to meaningless.

Shef and FMart as a platoon are below average?

The jury remains out on Church though.

  9. Mr North Jersey

OMG! Prismo, I love the satellite imagery way kewl dude.

  10. rustyjr

btw anyone know how Nick Evans is doing in single a?

    1. Kingman 26

Well, his AA stats—which may be the most recent?? I am not sure—are pretty mediocre….82 PA, and a .219 .305 .342 line with 1 HR and 4 2B…

      1. rustyjr

he is getting better he was below the mendoza line in aaa

        1. Kingman 26

Good point…when he is down to C or D ball, he will be an MVP!!

          :-)

          1. rustyjr

rotfl – i mean he has mlb experience – he tore up spring training – maybe bringing him back up might give him his second wind

          2. Kingman 26

I agree Rusty, I like Evans a lot, and have been shocked at his offense in the minors. I really think he will eventually be at least a real good bench/platoon player if not more….

          3. rustyjr

i think he got discouraged when he didnt make the cut – or it could be somekinda brokeback citi thing between him and murph

          4. rustyjr

            j/k

          5. Kingman 26

LOL on the Brokeback Citi thing!! You may have something there!
