Nieve to start Saturday, Switzer up

According to David Lennon at Newsday, Fernando Nieve will get the start on Saturday against the Yankees and LHP Jon Switzer was recalled from AAA to fill the bullpen.

According to Lennon, Switzer is 0-2 with a 2.13 ERA in 21 appearances for Buffalo with 29 strikeouts and only 9 walks in 25.1 innings while lefties only bat .186 against him.

Good luck Jon, you may want to wear padding to the ballpark everyday

lol just about to post this…talk about getting to know your AAA squad huh lol

    1. tkfj

If Switzer pitches as advertized to lefties it makes Takahashi expendable. I mean what is the purpose of another lefty who cannot get lefties out.

      1. dirtysanchez

agreed. Taka has options so he can just be sent down. Lets hope switzer makes it happen

        1. There's Always '09

Yea, maybe Takahashi can be traded straight up for Matt Holliday.

  2. GravediggerHebner

Too bad, I wanted Lance. Think of all the Broadway in the Bronx headline opportunities. I’ve got nada for Nieve.

Francesa giving it to Manuel about Church!

    1. dirtysanchez

whats he saying(along time coming btw)

      1. Joe R

He said everyone thinks you dont like him. You said he would be playing everyday. he just a hit a bomb off the apple and now he’s out of the lineup lol. Manuel studders and says he needs to get Fmart abats and now giving it to him on not bacjing up his players i.e, tatis!! Good stuff

        1. Joe R

manuel did a good job of defending himself against the Johan showing him up question and I actually buy his explanation. He said that was Johan winding down and emotional and basically talking to himself. saying Im a man! Im a man! I believe him and love the fact Johan is even crazier than I thought! lol

          1. dirtysanchez

just say he wanted to stay in the game instead of making your ace look the way he did.

        2. metsfan4decades

I don’t know….like him or hate him, having Manuel look like a clown to the NY media is not gonna help this team at all. Isn’t this right around the time we had the Willie watch going on last year? It took a month to recover from that and his firing.

          Sigh….

          1. Joe R

True… Im so easily convinced lol the more I hear Jerry defend himself the more I believe him and give him a pass lol

  4. dirtysanchez

Wow…talk about throwing people under the bus…

    1. Joe R

He threw Razor under the bus naked! Said Razor saw tatis was safe and didnt say anyhting to him! tatis wasnt angry and emotional enough.

      1. dirtysanchez

thats bs imo…the player does not want to get thrown out. Its not like argueing is going to change anything but it shows your behind your players and it defelcts attention…

  5. DNDJohan aka kistics

Just put this up on other post, but if you are free tonight, there’s some really good deals on stubhub on tonight’s game.
You can get behind the home plate field level seats for $100 per!! or there are plenty of mezzanine level seats infield under $100. Probably back row though

  6. GravediggerHebner

Jerry also said about the bad call on Tatis at the plate the other night he couldn’t see it from the dugout so when Tatis didn’t argue the call, he (Jerry) assumed he was out cuz the throw beat him. After the inning Razor Shines told jerry Tatis was safe and Jerry said essentially “you have to let me know that, go argue and I’ll come running out” but because neither Tatis or Shines did anything on the field, neither did Jerry.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Which is basically what I said when it happened to all the people who immediately said “Fire Jerry.” Can’t fire him for a play the on field participants don’t argue.

    2. Joe R

Yup..very interesting..not buying the tatis thing but I believe him about Johan. Manuel prob knows Johan is a bit of a nutjob. That goes to the fact that as much as we like to second guess we really dont know about these players and their personalities, etc

      1. GravediggerHebner

What is their to buy about Tatis? I watched the game, Tatis just got up and walked to the dugout, he didn’t yell or gesture or do anything to indicate that he was wronged.

        1. Joe R

Im saying I still think Jerry should have at least got an explanation…True… Im so easily convinced lol the more I hear Jerry defend himself the more I believe him and give him a pass lol

          1. GravediggerHebner

The way I understand it Jerry did get an explanation, but it was too late. Once Shines spoke to him after the inning was over it was too for Jerry to go running out and throw his hat and kick dirt. It doesn’t sound like Tatis said anything to anyone. What was he thinking? Maybe he really thought he was out?

I was actually less impressed with his explanation on the Santana thing, the way Jerry stammered and stuttered and had a loooong pause like he was trying to think of something to say. I thought his answer about the Tatis call was much more straightforward and came out much more smoothly. That one sounded much more truthful to me in a “what can you do?” kind of way.

This guy was horrible coaching the Dallas Cowboys. What makes Omar think he’ll be better as a major league pitcher?

    1. Kingman 26

Well, he did a good job coaching at Oklahoma….

      LOL!

      1. GravediggerHebner

Which is kind of like the difference between pitching at Buffalo and in Yankee Stadium

        1. There's Always '09

We want simpsonized. We want simpsonized! Why don’t you simpsonize the picture of that baby?

          1. GravediggerHebner

Damn that’s a good idea. I think I threw out that pic, I’ll see if I can find it again.

      2. There's Always '09

That was actually before my time in college sports. But wow, that Dallas dynasty (no pun intended “Dallas” and “Dynasty”) was basically the 90s version of the Pats, but better.

        1. Kingman 26

I was just getting into football in the late 70s when Switzer’s Oklahoma teams were among the best in all of college football.

I agree about the Cowboys—had they come all the way back and won the 94 NFC title game in SF in the rain, they would have won 4 straight SBs and be acknowledged as one of the all-time great teams, which, as much as I hate them, they really were.

          1. GravediggerHebner

As a Giant’s fan during that period I always had to do a Jedi mind trick with myself and tell myself “you root for your conference, you root for your conference” so I could tolerate the Cowboys winning those Super Bowls. I did enjoy the NFC East run of 4 consecutive titles over the just not quite good enough Bills.

          2. Kingman 26

As a Dolphin fan who grew up going to Giants games, I have enjoyed the Giants Super Bowls very much, and I do hope the Fish eventually get back to the damn game!

And I am very proud to say that I did in fact win several hundred bucks when I saw the Giants upsetting the Patriots very clearly coming down the road like a mack truck with no brakes….my best upset pick ever!

          3. There's Always '09

Nice. I didn’t go with the money line. Went with the spread. Was a nice take home though.

          4. There's Always '09

Have an older brother that’s a Cowboys fan. Still couldn’t bring myself to cheer for them. I hate them. Not as much as the Eagles, but I hate them.

Short story. Worst day of my life was probably when i went to the Giants-Eagles Sunday night game in 2007 on the same day the Mets lost to the Marlins and the Eagles beat the Nats to clinch the division. There were more Phillies hats than Eagles hats. The only solace I was able to take from that was McNabb getting sacked like 12 times.

          5. There's Always '09

They were awesome. I hate them as well. Too early to be talking football. That’s the equivalent of throwing in the towel on the wild card :-)

          6. Kingman 26

Ain’t no towel and there ain’t no throwin!

We are very much in the race, and as last night wears off, yes, we feel damn desperate, but we lost two extra innings nail biters, we did not get blown out. 2 of 3 this weekend and the ship be righted again…..for how long, may be another story….

          7. There's Always '09

My first guess would be, it’ll be righted until we play the Natinals again.

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

      I like Cowboys cheerleaders….

      1. Kingman 26

        Mmmmmmmm, Cowboy cheerleaders…..

        1. There's Always '09

Yuck. They are Cowboys fans. (spit).

          1. Kingman 26

True, I do definitely prefer Dolphins cheerleaders.

Ever notice that the Jets AND Giants do not have cheerleaders??

          2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Mets should have cheerleaders. Baseball is played in summer!

          3. GravediggerHebner

The only good thing about going to a Marlins game is their dancers. And when it inevitably rains on their dancers.

          4. There's Always '09

Back to reality guys. Delgado, Reyes, Maine, Wagner, and Putz are all on the DL. :-)

          5. Kingman 26

            Plus Ollie the Magnificent!!

          8. GravediggerHebner

Thanks a lot TA’09, I was planning on avoiding reality ’til a few minutes after 7:00pm

Yes. But I’ve created a monster!

    Trade Talk!!

Jon Heyman said that Mets might be interested in Penny and have enough talent to get Holliday.

Hey I’ll take Holliday at this point.

    1. There's Always '09

Don’t know if anyone saw Penny hit A-Rod last night. Guy is always hurt though.

  9. There's Always '09

You guys think I should wear a John Olerud helmet on Saturday? Sitting in the bleachers. May easily get hit with a Wilson Valdez home run ball if I’m not paying attention!

I was at Citi for the game 1 of this last Phils series. How did Adam Dunn hit the ball that far? That is ridiculous. Stood by the bridge. Wow.

    1. QnsNative718

I’ll be in Sec. 434A tomorrow. I’ll be surrounded by the stench of douche.

      1. There's Always '09

haha…believe me, yankee fans are much better than philly fans. although i’m sure you know. the difference is philly fans are not knowledgable. yank and boston fans are.

        1. QnsNative718

Ehhhh, a slight better. Yankee fans are still New Yorkers so… Going to a Philly game last April was crazy. The hostility could be weighed on a scale. Saw about 4 fights that Sat. game.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

That’s how I felt at Sat game 2 years ago at Shea.

I tink Sat game in August Citi would be a nice game to watch fights

          2. QnsNative718

And ofcourse you got Sept in Philly.

          3. DNDJohan aka kistics

I don’t even want to touch that thing…

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

      it’ll be Castillo hitting HRs!

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

From the left of the line up too!

      2. There's Always '09

Phillies minor leaguer Ozuna suspended 50 games

NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies infielder Pablo Ozuna has been suspended for 50 games under baseball’s minor league drug program.

Major League Baseball said he had an elevated ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone, a violation of its drug rules.

The 34-year-old Ozuna was hitting .292 with 15 RBIs for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.

Ozuna played in the majors from 2000-08 with Florida, Colorado, the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .282 with three home runs and 45 RBIs. He played for the Dodgers in the NL championship series last year.

Phillies reliever J.C. Romero returned to the team earlier this month following his 50-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.
