Just need to vent…
I’m glad I have no malignant tumor or out of a job, or living in the Sudan. Still though, this team that I grew up rooting for and spend my spare time writing about, stresses me out.
Do you guys realize, that this team has dropped 4 routine fly balls this season so far? Murphy on Easter Sunday, Sheffield in late April, Delgado in Atl and tonight. What do they all have in common? They used one only hand as if the other one was severed off in a horrible hunting accident. But what irks me the most is the fact that after Murphy botched that routine fly ball that cost Santana a win, IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN! Do these guys have the memory of a senior citizen living in Boca Raton??? Why wasn’t the rule implemented the first time to never take anything for granted??? Again, and again and again they continued to steer away from the 1st thing you’re taught in Little League.. Use 2 hands!
I’ve been a Jerry supporter and battled some of my fellow Mets fans about him but Ive slowly given in to what they’ve been saying about him. IMO, this lackadaisical effort is on Jerry. Can anyone tell me the last time before this season, that the Mets dropped a routine fly ball twice in a year, even once? Well, we’ve done it 4 times already and its still only June! If Im manager, and my multi million dollar player fails to execute the most simplest of plays because he is simply too lazy or too arrogant to, he is benched! Is it that hard??? Or better yet, you fine that bum who doesn’t properly catch the most routine of plays. Hit them where it hurts, in their Armani nap sacs. You do realize we’ve already blown 2 games because of this? The last 2 years the last game of the season sealed our fates, and these guys have the audacity to play as though they have a 10 game lead with 9 to play?
Anyway, going to bed. Headin to tomorrow’s game. I think I’ll bring a brown paper bag with me. Thanks for “listening”.

I dont know how you can muster the strength and courage to show your face and support this pathetic team tomorrow. I for one, won’t even bother turning on the tv to watch a game until these goons get it together. I just finished my first year of dental school and was looking forward to going to citifield a couple of times during my month long break, but I cant seem to justify spending money to support the GARBAGE being thrown onto the field everyday. Not scoring a lot of runs is one thing, but all the base running shenanigans and dropping routine fly balls is inexcuseable.
If we miss the post season by a game or two, just remember the four games you posted Qns.
WTH? If you wont score damn runs, at least do the very best to stop the other teams from scoring by playing solid defense. WTH is wrong with this team? I have a feeling this play will come to symbolize the 2009 season.
At least “theres always ’10″ saw it coming. hats off to you buddy.

There is a large mental & emotional component to a baseball season (a by porduct of it being so long, with so many games day after day). It affects the players, team/organization, and of course the fans.
As we are seeing now, when the fanbase becomes mentally overwraught, it impacts the players and management. It almost creates an aura around the team (a negative vibe?) And of course, it plays into the whole confidence/clutch,choke aspect. A defeatist attitude, or acceptance, especially when it comes from the manager, is like mold. Hard to get rid of.
Omar did a fairly good job (probably the best he could at the time given budget and roster constraints) of ridding the team of most of the players that still seemed to be infected by the bad vibe. Castillo was the most notable exception (although Delgado was also a lightning rod to some).
Oh, and his biggest gamble, Jerry. having him continue after canning WIllie may have seemed like a logical move at the time, but he missed the best opportunity to start a culture change by eliminating the whole coaching staff. A breath of fresh air? And extending him at the end of 2008 was, certainly in retrospect (though some of us didn’t like it at the time), a very bad tactical move.
SO, Castillo has to be on the list to go. But unless this team has a miraculous comeback (not just or even only in the standings, but with how they play), they absolutley need to clean out the clubhouse, top to bottom, and bring in an entirely new coaching staff in the off season.
The manager needs to be someone who can garner respect, and instill a fundemental, expect perfection attitude. And everything has to build off of that. I always liked Clint Hurdle.
Omar I expect will be back, and have 1 more chance to finally put together a solid, winning team (and man, it scares me to think of the furute if he botches it).
There are going to be a lot of new players next year, and some key ones, so I want a new manager in place before they get here to set a tone from day 1 of ST on how this team needs to play.
better trainers would help too!

You watch this team day-in and day-out like the rest of us. Seeing what you’ve seen all year, how are we supposed to maintain any confidence.
And I agree, get rid of these trainers.
