This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 6/18/09

Good morning my fellow Mets fans, it’s time to shake off last nights defeat th the lowly Orioles of Baltimore with my last Big Easy edition of ” this dat in Mets infamy with Rusty” so lets get goin cuz i got a plane to catch.

Celebrating birthdays to day was a minor cog in the infamous Tug McGraw to the Philthies trade, outfielder Dave “Shake Shack” Schneck (1949)
also getting another year older is legendary catcher with the Indians yest a 4th string catcher with the Mets – you know him , you love him, he’s our catching coach Sandy “JUNIOR !!” Alomar (1966)
And finally celebrating a birthday is the outfielder that never reached his potential Ben “I was traded for Heath Bell and all I got was this lousy T-SHIRT” Johnson (1981)

New York Mets released Joe “SAINT JOE” Torre on June 18, 1977. This move was facillitated ( s.a.t. word) when he realized he had no more use as a player/ manager and focused on just manageing ( yeah that helped us out!)
and this is a very infamous move in our franchise history today is the 20th anniversary of the New York Mets traded Lenny Dykstra, Roger McDowell and Tom Edens to the Philadelphia Phillies for Juan Samuel on June 18, 1989. – If I ever see Frank Cashen I just want to scream ” WHY!!!” at him

New York Mets traded Allen “YANKEE SCUM!” Watson to the Seattle Mariners for Justin Dunning and Mac Suzuki on June 18, 1999. – as we all know that trade worked out well for us also lol
and lastly as I leave this beautiful city known as New Orleans I have to say the rebuilding is coming along nicely tourism is up – I’ve met many nice people – including a phone interview with Ron Swoboda ( more on that this weekend) but please if you have the income and are scheduled to go on vacation consider this place – you wont regret it – Mo Vaughn has’nt ( he has the stretch marks to prove it !!

Ibanez on the 15 day DL. I guess with the way he has been playing that would mean 3 less wins in that time frame for the Phils! Good for us.

What site is that? I just checked it out but I have been coming to thi site only. Do I need to start checking that site out too?

Yes, please spread the wealth of your web hits to the whole NL East Chatter community. There are forums to discuss all the divisions teams as well as a growing family of blogs. In addition to our own Mets related blog we have added the Braves and the Nationals, and are continuing to seek and “sign” the Marlins and even the Phillies so that all NL East fans have a hub at which to congregate and then fan out to their respective favorite teams. Soon we will dominate the world! (or at least the NL East).

Someone was pulling his groin. Initial indications are that it was himself.

          Ha! Good one.

I wanted to beat the Phils ‘A’ team this year, proving we are better. But since we don’t have close to our ‘A’ team either, this levels the playing field a bit….

New Orleans was a beautiful city last time I was there, which is too many years almost to remember…

Juan Samuel…..that worked out real well for us, huh?

I have said this here before but I don’t get tired of repeating it. I have only visited New Orleans once, and I was only there for 36 hours in 1993, but they were some of the happiest hours of my life. I was constantly not sober, but never angry depressed or belligerent, I met some very happy to be alive people, and I saw some of the biggest scariest metallic spiders that I’ve ever seen when I visited Jean Lafitte National Park.

Ah New Orleans….a truly great and unique American city.

Along with Las Vegas, maybe the most fun city and best place to engage in public intoxication.

Great food, drinks, hotels, history, and an incredibly diverse and interesting population.
