Good bye Nando, Hello Evans???

Nick has done a lot of work in AA and seems to have been working out with Dr. Bonds and Nurse Canseco while there.

According to multiple reports including the Daily News, Nick Evans has been promoted and is on his way to Queens. It is still unclear whose spot he is taking but baring injury it would have to be Fmart. Good luck to both of them. Evans after struggling mightily in AAA seems to have found his stroke again and would provide a decent platoon option for Murphy at 1B while Tatis goes back to his normal super sub role.
At this point I would assume that Reed will now become the coveted Sheffield caddy. This really is the right move, if Fmart is sent down, as he was over matched and needs to play everyday. See you in September buddy.

And this comes right as I am leaving to go watch the Bisons play in Charlotte, NC against the Knights. Oh well. By the way I will NOT be live blogging the game, LOL, but I WILL be taking plenty of picutres.

Yea, F-Mart was totally overmatched. He belongs in the minors til Sept. This is ofcourse assuming that its F-Mart. Glad to hear Evans found his swing again and the platoon w/ Murphy seems like the game plan.

Still though, is Murphy being platooned beneficial to his development?

Right now, Murphy isn’t important enough to give away gmaes for. Evans gives a lot more flexibility that Fernando. And plays a way better 1B than Tatis.

I don’t think F-Mart was overmatched at all. I think he lots of very good at bats, though the results were not always there.

I think he’d be fine if he continued to get consistent at bats. But now that he won’t get at bats, it’s better to send him down.

I hope Murphy and Evans is not a strict platoon. I think Murphy will hit well if he gets the chance to get in his rhythm.

I agree. Martinez is doing about what you would expect (maybe more) out of a 20 YO with only 2 months in AAA.

Let him go down, play ever day, and be ready in APril to take a job.

I dont doubt him at all I just think that, as GKR said, rookies either come in guns blazin’ or off to a real slow start. Obviously, F-Mart was the latter.

numbers aren’t pretty, ut he has hit some balls hard (decent amount of doubles), and isn’t King too much. You can certainly see the promise that has him rated as the #1 prospect.

And, if he stays down the rest of the year, he can still be ROY next season!

I thought you were talking about Nando Tatis….

Okay, sending down FMart is the right move for now. It’s time to deal Murphy or acquire a 1B some other way and demote Murphy. I realize I’m saying this after he had a decent game, but it’s clear he’s not ready for the bigs at this point. Of course without a move for a bat the point is moot, because it is also clear that Tatis cannot get the job done right now.

Hmm., maybe a trade is brewing too? Never know!

supposedly Rubin “twitted” (man, I hate twitter) that Jose was taking groundballs before the game.

I’m really curious how he is doing, and what a realistic timeline is.

ALthough I still put it at 50/50 for some kind of surgery, and out for the season.

    1. GravediggerHebner

I don’t think we can read into this. Reyes has been taking ground balls for a while now.

wouldn’t it be nice to have Jose back, and COra as the everyday 2B? Or at least platoon, so Castillo never has a chance to hit lefty again.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Trying to determine which is greater: your distaste for Castillo or Ceetar’s distaste for Manuel.

just going to throw this out there…..but wouldnt it have been nice to have signed dunn in the off season?? (i lobbied for him all winter, i just love watching that guy hit. he reminds me of the sluggers from back in the day)

    1. GravediggerHebner

Maybe. Or maybe many impatient Met fans would complain vociferously every time he struck out with men on base, and lose their minds when he misplayed a ball in the field as he is known to do. Not sure whether the occasional majestic HR would outweigh that or not. Depends on the timing of the HR I suppose.

Not surprised about FMart going down – although I think he’ll be back up soon enough but surprised about Nick Evans is the one coming up.
