This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 6/19/09

Good morning my friiends ( after being stuck in a airport terminal with a delayed flight for 7 hours and not getting into your own bed until 3a.m this is a good morning lol) it is time for the morning edition of “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty”. So lets get this ball rolling.
Celebrating birthdays today is ex a Brooklyn Dodger who manned our hot corner for a season in ’72 -Bob “Spro” Aspromonte (1938)
middle reliver for the late ’80′s team – Bob “I’m not that Bob” Gibson (1957)
Light hitting first baseman that has a knack for holding game winning World Series balls for ransom Doug ” damn that’s a hard name to pronounce” Mientkiewicz (1974)
pitcher for the late ’90′s early ’00′s teams Bruce “Lee” Chen (1977)
and lastly servicable 5th starter and bullpen help for the ’07 collapse ” Claudio “I” Vargas (1978)

New York Mets released Gary Gentry on June 19, 1975. That was a shame because he was a major cog of that ’69 World Championship team

New York Mets traded Brian “Robin” Givens to the Seattle Mariners for backup infielder Mario “He itsa me ” Diaz on June 19, 1990.
And lastly the Mo Vaughn tidbit of the day – he named his teddy bear Stever Phillips!!

      I hated mint-kay-vich. Such a little B-yatch.

This team just doesnt give us hope. We as met fans, or at least me just need a nice win or a clutch performance once in a while and I accept and forget the past. A win last night and I am happy, proud, and feeling great being 2 out after all the blown games. I really dont think all teams go through what we do as much. I mean I knew Frankie was going to blow a save and I knew it was going to be in a big spot. Thats just what happens to us. A simple win last night and it really changes everything in terms of hope, our battling, confidence, etc. I mean after dealing with the last few months to be 2 games out would have been great for us and the team!! We all know the Phils are going to bounce back strong and I will be amazed if we arent 7 out by the end of next week with Tampa, Cards, Yanks, etc. I know outsiders are saying how depleted we are and hurt, etc, but its so tough for us to swallow because with some easy wins we should be at MINIMUM TIED FOR 1st. Philly is doing their best to help us out and we dont cash in!! I wish, and it would be easier if I could say we just arent a good team but as a fan Im not ready because we are so close. But as the season goes on at what point do we accept we arent that good? I mean bad teams find a way to lose! Im not ready to accept that but its coming close!

This may be a huge strecth and it probably is but I wonder if KRod knew the Phils lost and wanted to cash this game in to cut it to 2 games. If he did i hope we dont have another player that crumbles in the clutch late in the season. Players that just cant get it done against the bottom of the barrel teams. I really dont believe this but it did cross my mind.

I don’t think Franky can be characterized as unclutch. As a rookie in the Angels WS run he had 28 Ks in 11 appearances. He’s very solid, he hasn’t looked good since the “Luis” game, but we knew he would have down times (he blew 7 saves last year, although 2 of those were do to unearned runs).

I still think we are a good team. Omar does need to make a move or two. If we could get Huff and a SP I would be ecstatic.

Jerry tries to resign this team to being .500 with the injuries, but that’s a loser’s mentality. With as much as we’ve gone through we have shown that we really are a team to be contended with.

I agree about KRod and I love his attitude during the post game. It just crossed my mind and I was just thinking as a disgruntled fan because it just seems when we have a golden oppurtunity it never is exercised!

I want that feeling I had in 2006 taking the 7 train from my job in Midtown. Walking to meet my friend who was parked at the very end of the street where it smells like raw sewage and all the trucks are parked. He had the cooler with beer and a nice hero from one of the best Deli’s in Brooklyn. It was October and the air was chilly…after the 6th beer or so the walk to Shea was so damn exciting!

That feeling is so damn great and may be the best feeling for me in life! We have been robbed of it 2 years in a row and I want it back. Im not ready to say this year Im not going to feel that yet. ANd a simple save by Krod would have given me a ton of hope!

look this was his only real “blown save ” of the year – we can’t expect him to be perfect – albeit it wouldve been nice to win last night – but hey we are still 3 behind the philths with a decimated roster – i think that shows moxy ( new word for the clutchophiles lol)

I sort of agree and will agree with you 150% if by the end of the games with the Yanks, Tampa, Cards, we arent 7 out. If we are either 4 or 5 behind after this stretch then I will be willing to say we are battling and over achieving, and any other word to describe our grit. A this point at least the last 15 games we are extremely lucky we arent staring at 8 back.
