Boys, I’m feeling good. It might be a push to get there, but if we could get 10 of 17 before the break I am confident we’d be in first place. After that we need to get healthy. I feel good about Beltran and Maine being back. Perez is healthy, but he’s still a head case. Now for Jose, Putz, and Delgado. I think we can do this. I realize I’m flying high from the buzz of last night, but I was saying this four games ago too…

The moment I say I’m feeling good about this team, they’ll tank. So… they need to show me more before I start having any confidence in them. Great win last night, though.

Nice to see our catcher position still coming through with RBI for us.

Yeah its one game. A loss today and a tough series against the Yankees combined with the Phils winning a few and that happiness will vanish. .500 ball til the break…thats the plan and I agree with it!.. Lets Go Mets

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Phils will play their favorite team. Toronto “the sweep” Blue Jays. But then they are not playing at home, so they might win.

  2. Joe R

So everyone killing Manuel for not having the GREAT Murphy in the lineup yesterday….Um…yeah.

    1. dirtysanchez

yes because his replacement tatis is the GREAT Double Play Master

  3. prismo

I’m not down with all this .500 ’til the break talk. There’s no guarantee that the team gets either Reyes or Beltran back until who knows when! We can’t play the waiting game. This team needs to play over .500 ball in my opinion for the rest of the season. If they go 10-7 (as saber said) before the break I’ll be satisfied.

    1. Joe R

Disagree. You have to be realistic. .500 ball till we get some players back is good, anything more is gravy. Phillies are being oh so kind to us right now. Time is ticking off the calendar which only benefits us. The tough schedule is here and has been here and we are about to get through another series with at worst a split. Very good stuff. If at the break we arent more than 5 games back I will be elated and impressed.

After the Yanks, they have Mil, Pit (1 game), Phi on the road and end with LAD and Cincy before the break. Phillies, on the other hand, have Tor, Atl, Mets, Cincy and Pit.

I’d be happy if the Mets are only 3 games out.

      1. Joe R

3 games out at the end of the first half of 2009 is a huge success! I would be pleased to say the least!

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

yeah me too. considering who we have face vs who the Philly Phucs have to face.

You know I’m starting to wonder if they might switch gears and rethink our 1st baseman of the future. If we trade for a power bat for the OF (or less likely FMart quickly starts to fill that role), the fact that Nick Evans seems to have more power than Murph and 1st base was his natural position right?…..I wonder if they’ll think about Evans at first next year and package Murph in a trade.

    Just thinking out loud…..

    1. Joe R

I would rather them go the otherway. No one hates the comparisons ppl make with Murphy, i.e, Olerud, Magadan more than me but I see much more upside in Murphy. In my ideal world it would be reversed, hopefully Evans gets hot and hits a few HR’s and they are able to package him!!

It’s great to be a Met fan. This’ll be a memorable season and I’m so glad I’m able to share it with you guys.

I think Jerry deserves an extension!

      1. Kingman 26

At least until the end of the week!!

Batting Santos after FMart and Evans??

        1. There's Always '09

FMart can’t bat 8th, no matter how much he is struggling. Bad spot for an inexperienced major league hitter that you want seeing pitches. I think he’ll get to see some pitches with a little bit of pop hitting behind him. This is his chance to prove himself and get better. The daily improvement I saw from his first day in the majors is all but gone. He needs to have a good couple weeks here.

          1. Kingman 26

Yeah, I agree. Seems like Tatis or Evans should hit 8th.

          2. There's Always '09

I’d be more inclined to put Tatis or Castillo in that spot. They are more experienced. Tatis is struggling though, so you don’t want to knock him down too far. Although, Johan isn’t your average pitcher. In the words of Dickie V, “he’s their Mr. Everything!!! Give him popcorn. He’ll sell it!!!”

    2. Kingman 26

      Amen to that!!

This could be the most memorable of all seasons or it could be a lot less….but I must say, every time I think they are ready to bottom out, they win a few and/or the Phils lose a few….every time I think I am out, they pull me back in!

A win today would be pretty amazing; 3 of 4 from the Cards.

    3. darknova306

I hope you’re right, Case. I still see us sputtering into a second place finish, but I’ll be here till the end.

    Alex Cora SS
    Luis Castillo 2B
    David Wright 3B
    Ryan Church RF
    Fernando Tatis LF
    Fernando Martinez CF
    Nick Evans 1B
    Omir Santos C
    Johan Santana LHP (8-5, 3.22)

    1. There's Always '09

Sounds like 11 runs and 16 hits to me!

    2. Kingman 26

Other than the glaring absolute ridiculousness of having Santos batting 8th, that looks pretty good…

Santos should—at least for now—be hitting 5th, and the rest move down a spot.

      1. There's Always '09

Santos and Tatis should be flip-flopped until Tatis bounces back.

        1. Kingman 26

Cannot argue with that….Santos might come crashing back to reality, but maybe not. Even so, with the way he is hitting, how can he be batting behind FMart and Tatis?? Nutty.

          1. There's Always '09

Santos has been up for a while now. Not sure if he’ll be crashing down to reality, or if this is reality. Same question with Nieve. But while they are hot, you gotta play the hot hand. Especially with the DL situation the way it is.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

      Murphy out again

      1. There's Always '09

He is replacing Ryan Church in the dog house. Or, for you hockey fans, the Chateau Bow Wow.

  7. prismo

And apparently Kevin Burkhardt is in the booth tonight, as Gary’s out at his kids’ graduation.

    1. There's Always '09

      Nice! KB

  8. DNDJohan aka kistics

One thing I noticed. David Wright is playing a lot like a lead-off hitter rather than #3 or 4 hitter. He’s been hitting a lot of singles and doubles, stealing a lot bases, high OBP.

Mets lead the league in BA and OBP. 2nd in Hits. Mets are creating a lot of opportunities to score. Just don’t have that big RBI machine. OR Jerry has been mixing up the lineup too much…

Just really really weird season… not only for Wright, but for the whole team.

    1. There's Always '09

Maybe Wright will have a power surge in the 2nd half. Remember what happened to him in the 2nd half of 2006? After the Home Run Derby and All Star Game, I think he hit only a handful of home runs. Fingers are crossed because you need to have a little power somewhere.

    2. dirtysanchez

I have some good stuff about that in my MUA later on today..
