Man Up Awards For Thursday

First up is Johan Santana. Johan is a Man. Without his best stuff, Johan took the bull by its horns and delivered 7 innings of 2 run ball. A crowd of 41,221 was on hand, the largest in Citi Field history and the first sellout since opening day. Since the worst outing of his professional career at Yankee Stadium, Johan has definatly shown that he is back. Johan has pitched 14.1 innings and has only given up 4 runs in his two starts after Yankee Stadium. Johan is still in the top 10 in the NL with his Era of 3.09 and tied for 1st in wins with his 9th win tonight. While this is a small sample size, somewhere Rick Peterson is eating his hat. Well done by Johan as in usual fashion, he always finds a way to make his point.

Next up is Nick Evans. Feels like a bit of dejavu as he earned his first MUA last night and less than 24 hours, he earned his second. Guess Evans feels like he needs to represent the Buffalo Bisons as he lined a  gapper that drove in 2 and turned out to be the game winning runs as the Mets couldnt muster anything after that. Evans did this against a pitcher that has an opponent avg of .163 and has a .40 ERA in three afternoon starts. This year has been obstacle plagued from the get go and it just seems as the deeper we decend into the rabbits hole, theres a new hero that emerges out of no where. We have been treated to such heroism by the likes of Omir Santos, Fernando Nieve and Bobby Parnell. In a time where the Mets need the big hit the most, i guess we can start adding the forgotten man into that discussion…Nick Evans.

Last up is Fransisco Rodriguez. Now Frankie did not make it look easy today. He retired the first two hitters via strike out and then had to contend against Pujols. You have to give credit to the Mets for really having a gameplan versus Pujols as we held him without a HR in the series and only going 3/13. Krod decided to buy into this gameplan and walked Pujols, but then he walked Ludwick to put Pujols in scoring position. To make it worse(and bring up 2006 memories), Krod had to contend with one of the Mets nemisises Yadier Molina. Now Krod wasnt around when Yadier Molina made the Mets hit list but Krod did his best to seek retribution by getting Yadier to line out and ending a game that the Mets scratched and clawed to win. Krod earned his 20th save and is tied for 1st in the majors.

Honorable Mentions:

Pedro Feliciano pitching a scoreless 8th inning while facing 2 right handers.

Fernando Tatis is making his way out of my dog house by getting another RBI today

    “Johan is a man.”

And he’d be the first to tell you!

      I’m a MAN!

That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode in which the Bar Mitzvah boy had a thing for Elaine.

Well, if I’m not a man, then this whole thing was a sham! First, they said I was gonna get great gifts, and then, somebody gives me Boggle. I renounce my religion!

            Good episode.

He talked too much. He’d be better in a 3 man booth in which he’d be forced to be quiet more, or on the radio where constant talking is more necessary. I’m not hating on the guy, and I do think his future is in a booth somewhere (not in the stands roaming around), but IMO he was a bit unnecessarily chatty.

I thought so too…I’d imagine the ability to be silent comes with experience, and less nervousness. It is one of the most impressive things about Cohen, he was a great radio guy yet knows how to shut up on TV.

Good point. Cohen really has made a nice transition from radio to TV.

Somewhat related, I love how Keith will speak simultaneously with Gary, say “sorry Gair” then just go right on speaking.

This is totally off topic, but guys check this out. It’s a clip from PIX morning news with Craig Carton promoting his gig tonight on the Subway series. This dude is crazy!!

    Sellout at a day game?

I wonder what the salary difference is between tonight’s Skankee lineup and Mets lineup

Interesting article about shea vs. citi

There’s a paragraph where he details that the mets “lost” 5 hrs in the last phils series, while they only lost 1…and they gained the 2 utley homeruns.

Thank you for that Billy Dee. I knew there was a website that kept track of that sort of thing but I had not found it. Thanks to you I now have hittrackeronline.com in my bookmarks.

Also very interesting to read how Wright is on track to have a season unlike any other since Tris Speaker’s MVP year of 1912.

Was also good for my mental health to read “while the Mets have lost 16 homers (Citi vs. Shea), opponents have lost 20.”
