I wonder with the post that real made below and the fact that we are .5 out of first with only what 2 weeks before the ASB if omar is going to make a move…If we can continue to play as we have done, how can he justify getting a bat when people are going to be set to come back?
Still kinda sad from the mj thing….

You know, Dirty, while the original MJ’s death saddened me, it occurred to me that he had been so far gone from the scene that it almost felt like he was gone already.

        1. dirtysanchez

i agree with that. I choose to remember mj’s music/videos/performances more than the man off camera. Never met him but when i was young, his music was a big part of my life. I mean idk how many times i busted my a** trying to moonwalk lol I guess you never realize the enormity of someones impact until you realize they are gone. He has not done anything music wise in a while but i would (for mostly nostalgic reasons) pop in the thriller cd(still have the lp at home as a bday gift)from time to time. I guess its just the shock that it happend so suddenly is what gets me.

agree…came out of left field. and, as a 35 year old, i was the perfect age to have MJ catch my imagination. i was telling my wife that i’m pretty sure he was the first famous person i ever knew of. i remember my parents playing off the wall when it came out and all their friends coming over and dancing in the living room!

So, while waiting for SOMETHING to happen after the draft last night, I decided to look at the standings in the NL East. WTF! One half game out with this ragtag bunch? Can anyone imagine what could have been had the big four and Ollie and Maine had stayed healthy? 10 games up right? More?

      From Mike’s Silva’s blog:

Fans sometimes forget that the players don’t always get caught up in the history of the team. This was the case when K-Rod admitted he didn’t know why the fans were booing Yadier Molina. The quote of the post game was when Frankie said that he “”anyone out there have a heart attack [on the Molina line out]… if so send me the bills”
      ****************

Maybe history lessons on the team – or at least recent history lessons – ought to be part of the initiation for any new member of the team – LOL.
Wonder if he has any idea why Met fans still boo Chipper every time he comes to bat….

      1. Kingman 26

I am loving the history KRod is making, especially as I see stories about Benitez making a comeback!!

    4. Joe R

Obviously its hard to criticize KROD because he has been great to say the least, but can you imagine if he had pin point control??

He would mow hitters down left and right. The lack of control, although it doesnt stop him on most days from throwing any pitch at any count, doesnt allow him to fully utilize his awesome breaking pitches. Sometimes he has to just throw fastballs because he is behind in the count too much.

Anyway great job so far KRod…keep it up!

      1. CaseStreet

idk, maybe lack of control makes him more effective. batters don’t know where the ball will end up, so they can’t really guess, where he’s going to pitch it.

      2. GravediggerHebner

In general I think you have a fair point, but regarding yesterday specifically KRod walked Pujols for good reason because he didn’t want to pitch to him, but in doing so lost the strikezone and it took him one more batter to get it back.

I’m certainly not a major league pitcher, but I have experienced first hand throwing baseballs and many other things, they don’t always go where I want them to, and sometimes when I’m in the midst of a streak of throwing things exactly where I want them to go I suddenly lose it.

    5. Joe R

Im sitting here imagining if we just get half the good luck in the 2nd half of the year compared to the bad luck, how exciting this year can become. Yes its alot to expect my dreams and my perfect scenarios to come true i.e, Delgado coming back solid, Wagner coming back throwing 95 for much needed lefty help in the pen, Reyes stealing 40 bases the 2nd half of the year, Beltran back patrolling center, Wright hitting with some power, the GREAT bench we will have if we get everyone back like Cora, Sheff, Murphy, etc!! Ollie dominating winning 8-10 games….Ok maybe not that one lol

Yes its alot to ask but in the same breath it is whats suppose to happen if all goes according to plan!

I just hope we can play .500 ball to the break! I pray!! Yes we looked good against the Cards and yes the more days that tick off the calendar the better we are, but I am also aware with this squad we are putting out there we are capable of losing 5 in a row. Things change quick in baseball and a small losing streak combined with a small winning streak from the Phils and we are 5 back saying What happened? Thats why imo this series was huge…1/2 back allows us to fall a bit.

I said 3 weeks ago if we arent more than 4-5 games back at the break I will do a celebration dance and be so proud of this team!! As the days go by the Mets are making this more and more of a possibility! Go Mets!

      1. CaseStreet

That’s why watching baseball and being a fan is so exciting. You just can’t let the day to day setbacks get to you because you’ll miss out on a great and memorable season.

        1. GravediggerHebner

I consider myself something of a wordsmith and I could not have said it better myself.

          1. CaseStreet

tnx, that’s my general outlook on life, too.

            1. GravediggerHebner

Whether that came to you naturally or you developed it through thought and planning, kudos. You will have many more good days than bad. Unless you believe in reincarnation, having more good days than bad is about the most important thing in life, at least that I can think of.

      2. GravediggerHebner

When you say “but I am aware with this squad we are putting out there we are capable of losing 5 in a row” are you also aware that with the squad the San Diego Padres put out there they won 10 in a row earlier this season? The Mets are just as capable of winning 5 or even 10 in a row as the Padres or any other team. Like Case said, this is what makes baseball so fun.

        1. Joe R

          Agreed.

    6. DNDJohan aka kistics

Can I just say HOT METS!!

    7. GravediggerHebner

      So the 4 year, $60 million Derek Lowe is 7-6, 4.53 ERA, 1.385 WHIP. Last night 3 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 3BB, 0 K.

I certainly believe that Oliver Perez is capable of coming back and busting out a second half performance comparable to what Lowe’s done so far.

      1. wannybackstra

Lowe has given the Braves 12 quality starts so far this season (out of 16). Ollie has given the Mets one (out of 5).

Even if Ollie has the same second half that Lowe had in his first, how is he going to make up for the fact that he contributed nothing in the first half and only hurt the team when he did play?

And if Lowe has a better second half (his numbers look much worse by the virture of 2 horiffic starts in his last 3) than his first, the comparison will be even less valid.

        1. GravediggerHebner

My only point, which I stand by, is that one can reasonably expect Oliver Perez to provide 7-6, 4.53 type numbers if he’s healthy.
