Mets Notes:

  • Redding pitched into the eighth inning for the first time all season for the Mets in earning his first victory of the season. Redding allowed four runs on five hits in seven-plus frames, striking out four. He was susceptible to the long ball, allowing homers to Ryan Ludwick and Brendan Ryan. Redding has never started against the Yankees. He owns a 2-3 career record with a 8.00 ERA in 16 interleague games, including 13 starts.
  • “We played a bad game. It was just one of those nights,” Mets manager Jerry Manuel said. “I think probably some of it is due because of the amount of players that we have missing.”
  • Tim Redding gets the ball for the Mets after earning his first win his last time out. He gave up four runs over seven innings Monday against St. Louis in a 6-4 victory. The veteran right-hander is winless in his last seven interleague starts, going 0-2 with a 5.89 ERA. He is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in two outings versus the AL this year, and will face the Yankees for the first time.

    No jeter? Aw, boo hoo.

of course, it really means Gerardi looked at the match ups and decided the Yanks were a gimmee for 10 runs tonight anyway, so might as well rest him.

Ha! First pitch from Redding was a little chin music to Gardner. Sending a message. You go, Timmy.

    One. Lousy. Hit.

    That about says it all.
We all knew the only way we’re staying close is with almost perfect pitching. And we didn’t get it tonight.
At least the BP didn’t give it up tonight.

Over at Metsgeek they posted a stat that players are hitting .400 against Redding after 70 pitches.

He’d make a good long man in the pen. As I believe right now he’ll be the long man out when Ollie or Maine comes back, he’ll probably wind up in the BP.
With Ollie on the mound, probably not a bad thing to have him and Stokes out there…

Hope this isnt the start of a losing streak that we have so fortunately avoided. A win tom and this series is a success in my book.
