Post Game: One Is The Loneliest Number

Writing Muse, where have you gone?

Writing Muse, where have you gone?

The last few Met games have been so uninspiring in any and every way that my creativity has been completely stifled.  Yesterday and today have been low points in terms of the Mets as muse.  They simply provide nothing to work with.  So tonight I will borrow from Three Dog Night:

One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you’ll ever know
Yes, it’s the saddest experience you’ll ever know
`Cause one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
One is the loneliest number, worse than two

The Mets managed one hit against Yankee starter A. J. Burnett, an Alex Cora single to break up the no-hitter leading off the 6th inning, and lost 5-0. Burnett combined with Brian Bruney and Dave Robertson for the shutout.

A Jorge Posada 3-run homer in the 6th inning put the game away for the Yankees.  Alex Rodriguez had singled to drive in Mark Teixeira earlier that inning.  Nick Swisher’s 3rd inning solo home run was really all the Yankees needed, ARod and Posada’s RBIs were just whipped cream on top of the sundae.

The cherry of pain atop the sundae of agony is that the Mets as a team and we as fans must now wait until 8:00pm tomorrow for a chance at redemption.  Thanks, ESPN.

The box score for those who dare.

at least they didn’t get no hit. That would have just been plain sad.

I am glad to see the Yanks go after tomorrow. Hopefully the Mets bats wake up and they can avoid the sweep?

I almost wish they HAD been no hit, then at least I would’ve been watching something worth watching.

this analysis might make you feel somewhat less panicy about the season (if you are a glass half full type)
