This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 6/30/09

YA GOTTA BELIEVE !!!!! – Okay – I had to get that of my chest . It’s time for the latest edition of :This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” so take another swig of Wild Turkey and just hope that we can salvage the series tonight.

First off a resounding Happy 65th Birthday goes out to Mets legend Ron “ROCKY” Swoboda (1944) If you can – go to the archives and read my interview with him ! He’s a salt of the earth type of guy!
Also celebrating a birthday is the shortstop for the ’92 team that loafed it for 3 months before being traded to the Blue Jays and finding his will to play again -Tony “BOOOO!” Fernandez (1962)
On this date one time mets back up and later Pirates catcher Jerry May passed away.(1996)

New York Mets traded Brooklyn’s own Ed “Pin” Lynch to the Chicago Cubs for Dave ” helmet” Liddell and Dave “Lend me a hand” Lenderman on June 30, 1986. – I remember as a teen being disapointed in this deal because Ed was a very good spot starter and middle relief pitcher – It is well known that his teammates from the ’86 team voted him a full World Series share and a ring because he was so well liked. – He was most recently the General Manager of the Chicago Cubs
There was a Mo Vaughn sighting in Milwaulkee after the game last night so all bratwursts and kilbase beware!!!
Lastly Go check out Steve from the Eddie Kranepool Society’s website www.kranepoolsociety.com -great opinion pieces all the time
