I’m glad I drank a lot last night.

    1. rustyjr

u know we can make this into a drinking game – chugalu after every 1-2-3 inning the mets have or have a drink after every bone head play or every head scratching move jerry makes

“If anyone wants me tell them I’m being embalmed.” Casey Stengel hahahahaha.

I think us fans are starting to get a sense of what it must have been like back with the early teams…

I am so pissed right now that Jerry I don’t have a clue Manuel is going to bench Wright and Sheff in the middle of a 5 game losing streak.

    1. prismo

Against the ace of the Brewers’ staff no less.

      1. There's Always '47

Why are you surprised? He benched Wright and Beltran for a game against Josh Johnson.

        1. trs86

That was MUCH different and he did not bench Beltran that game.

          1. There's Always '47

Well at that time, Beltran and Wright were the only hitters he had (much like today).

This is a danger zone. Loss today coupled with a Phillies win and we are 4 back, 3 games under, and showing no signs of coming out of it. Follow that up with a 3 game series in Philly. That can be bad news. I think Omar needs to decide what he is going to do. We can’t limp into Philly with this current roster and expect to take 2 of 3, or even hope to take 1 of 3. We haven’t shown an ability to hit bad pitchers, or even struggling ones with 10+ ERA in over 7 starts (Wang). He can either mortgage the future and try to get an impact bat in time for the weekend, or I think he needs to stay put and hope for the best.

I’m hoping he is in a holding pattern.

          2. charlies

no, it’s not a danger zone…you want to know why? it’s all in one of the versions of your name (There’s Always ’10).

          3. There's Always '09

Haha…you’re right. I wouldn’t fault Omar for trading Sheff or Livan.

          4. charlies

Nor would I. What to do with this team?

Good read over on Mike’s Silva’s blog this morning:

He makes a point concerning Jerry – one that became evident last night after the closed door meeting that Jerry commented on:
‘I have been a big supporter of Jerry Manuel. I believe he does a great job communicating with his players and the media. With that said, he has dropped the ball over the last few weeks. He continued to stress how this team needed to play perfect, that they were undermanned, and not good enough. Perhaps he thought that was going to motivate them to play above and beyond, but in reality it probably did the opposite. Now he preaches that they are good enough to win with that they have. You can’t go back Jerry. Did he lose these guys? The only hope is that this group has enough pride to continue to play hard. They aren’t buried yet, but are heading down that road’

    Also a chuckle:
‘If you listened to the post game show on SNY you could tell even Ron Darling had enough. By the way, Hernandez is even funnier when Darling is not in the booth because he has to pay attention 100% of the time. You get classic Keith as a duo with Gary Cohen. That is why this summer, regardless of the teams performance, will never get boring.’

Agreed with the reading, I think Jerry thought he could accomplish two things and it did not work.
      1) Push Omar for a trade
      2) Back hand challenge the players. Which seems to be the only way he knows how to do it, see Ryan Church. “You are not as good of a hitter as our scrub LF”

      1. There's Always '09

        2) seems to have worked. Church has outplayed Murph this year!

        1. charlies

          or…has murph underperformed church?

          1. There's Always '09

Murph has underperformed Church, but outperformed J-Troll.

The best was in the early nineties before a weekend telecast. McCarver Healy and Kiner would be rip roaring drunk just talking crap and laughing at the own stupidity. There was one game I remember vividly where they opened the show with the camera on them and they are all red faced laughing and can’t get through their opening analysis. Those were bad days in Mets land.

    3. dirtysanchez

      what did ron say?

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

He said that this team sucks and the manager sucks even more. What is wrong with FMart and Johan? This offense has made a 30-yr old career minor leaguer a Cy Young winner. Now that this team will face the Ace with no Wright and Sheff…. this team really sucks.. oh by the way, this team really sucks and the manager sucks even more. FMart needs to be sent down immediately. He’s not ready. He’s only 20 and cannot help the team. He’ll be discouraged.

Oh BTW, this team really sucks and the manager sucks even more.

  5. There's Always '09

TRS, I thought about what you said. I’m back to ’09 and not to be changed until next year. LGM!

I still think we need to think about next year. That’s not to say we should give up on the season. We should explore cheap trade options to improve the roster a little bit. I wouldn’t trade any mid-top prospects for a rental that will most likely end up inthe Bronx.

    1. trs86

I completely agree that we should think about this year AND next year. Salary dumps or future core members that’s it. Guys like Rios and Teahen or guys like Huff that go away if we want them to.

      1. stickguy

Agreed. I want a better product next year, and if Oar is going to make some moves now, treat it as a combo of trying to stabalize the current team while getting a head start on the off season!

Tomorrow’s the last day for all-star voting

    1. There's Always '09

Stuff the ballot box for Beltran.

      1. metsfan4decades

Why? He’s not going to the All Star Game even if he’s the top vote getter.

        1. CaseStreet

Cuz he deserved it. Doesn’t Ibanez deserve it too?
