Draft And Follow 7-2-09

Gulf Coast League

  • The GCL Mets lost a road contest to the GCL Nationals 3-1.  All the runs were scored in the 1st inning.  The only G-Met run was not related to a 2009 draftee, but is worth mentioning nonetheless because it was scored by Ryan Van Gurp who stole home on the front end of a double steal.  The G-Mets collected only 2 hits, none by 2009 draftees.  RF Kurt Steinhauer was 0 for 2 with 2 walks.  C Nelfi Zapata’s batting average is .421 despite his 0 for 4, and 3B Travis Ozga finished the night 0 for 3.  Follow these links for the box score and the recap.

Appalachian League

  • In Danville Viginia the Kingsport Mets fell to the Danville Braves 4-2.  4 members of the 2009 draft class saw action for the K-Mets.  LF John Semel was 0 for 3 with 2 walks.  Ryan Mollica played 2B and struck out 3 times, going 0 for 4, but was involved in 2 double plays on defense.  3B Joseph Bonfe had 1 hit in 4 times up out of the clean up spot, and his average fell to .361 on the season.  C John Freeman was 1 for 4 at the plate, and 1 for 3 at throwing out attempted base stealers.  MLN Sports has the game story.  Also see the box score and recap.

New York-Penn League

  • The Brooklyn Cyclones continued their winning ways, defeating the Tri-City Valley Cats 4-3 to move their record to 10-2 on the season.  2009 draftee James Ewing (12th round, pick 374) out of the University of Southern Mississippi made his professional debut.  It wasn’t one to write home about.  The 2B Ewing finished the night 0 for 4 at the plate, and made a throwing error in the field.  1B Sam Honeck had 2 singles in 4 at bats, with a run scored and an RBI.  Nick Santomauro was 0 for 2 with a walk at the plate, and on defense from RF he threw a runner out at the plate.  BrooklynCyclones.com has the game story.  Also see the box score and recap.

10-2 Cyclones. These guys are hot. I hope they don’t fizzle by the time I go see them.

Depending on how far off your tickets are, you may be seeing them in Met uniforms at Citi Field instead.

I will be anxiously awaiting your scouting report. Seriously. Obviously it’s only one game, but I look forward to your impressions of the players, especially 2009 draft guys like Sam Honeck (1B) who’s been doing very well, and James Ewing (2B) who I read a report about which said he was (this is not an exact quote) “the antithesis of the typical Met draft choice, in that he is not flashy and toolsy, he’s a baseball player.”

Congratulations! What is the risk to my carpal tunnel as I sit and type things on this blog in an inappropriate chair and without a proper computer desk?

about the same as to your liver if you get drunk every time the mets lose in heartbreaking fashion.

Not good news. I’ll order one of those will kits.

one of the interim ones, or the final one so you are now enrolled?

      And, Pension or Insurance?

as you might be able to tell, I spent a lot of time in the benefits consulting biz, and have a couple of friends that are insurance actuaries.
