First up is Mike Pelfrey. Just a few hours from when an old Met icon John Franco said that the team lacked “leadership”, Mike Pelfrey shut down the Brewers for 7.2 innings and racking up 6 punch outs in the process to end the Mets season worse losing streak of 5 games. Big Pelf did his thing tonight and no doubt earned a Man Up Award for his performance in such a troublesome time in the Met season. Lets hope that Pelf is an every other month pitcher as he is appearing to be so if you look at his stats. In April, Mike won 2-0 in 3 games but had a 6.32 ERA. In May, Mike went 2-1 in 6 games but had a nice 2.32 ERA. In June, Mike went 1-2 in 5 games but had a 6.39 ERA. Noticing a trend here…Lets hope it continues as we are going to need the big man to get this job done.
Next up is Ryan “Da Ryno” Church. Church singled in Luis Castillo in the 6th to account for the ONLY run in this contest. Talk about a good time to Man Up. Ryan has very quietly put together a nice season so far. Ryan is hitting .289 with 2 HR’s and 19 RBI’s. Looks like being the everyday outfielder is doing more good than harm as in the series, Ryan went 7/12 thus raising his BA from .267 at the end of the Yankee series to .289 by the end of the Brewer series. Ryan is definitely a nice addition to this team and we hope that July will keep em going.
Last up is K-Rod. Frankie gets his MUA for having the assignment of getting out Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun and Cory Hart….all while protecting a ONE RUN LEAD. As usual Krod is always up for the challenge. Working around a single to being the 9th, Frankie gets Fielder to line out and gets Hart and McGhee to ground out for his 21 save of the year. Krod is still holding on to a ridiculous 1.19 ERA and now is one save behind Fuentes and Bell for the Major League lead in the saves category. Krod has been money very well spent and a welcomed relief from last years woes. Im sure Krod will get more than enough save opportunities this year and im sure he will be up for the challenge.
Luis Castillo for doubling to begin the 6th inning and accounting for the teams ONLY run
Sean Green for bailing out the big man and earning his 7th hold of the season
David Wright for shutting up John Franco
