This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 7/5/09

Good morning all ( I’m still drunk so yes it’s a good morning !)
It’s time for the morning after edition of “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty”
First off happy birthday to former mets middle reliever from the mid 90′s teams Jeff “you’re Outis!” Innis (1962)
New York Mets signed free agent Cleon ‘NEON” Jones on July 5, 1962
And I don’t know if anybody noticed yesterday – but when David Wright missed that foul pop yesterday Mo Vaughn was there in the first row asking David if he had any Tabasco sauce for his cheesesteak (makes you wonder if Mo is rooting for the Phils

uh guys I don’t know whether to be pissed or scared – I read this – in the Daily News This morning as per Bill Madden
I’m told that assistant GM Tony Bernazard, whom Randolph found to be an intrusive influence in the clubhouse, especially with the Latin players, has been no less undermining with Jerry Manuel. For whatever reason, Bernazard seems to have the Wilpons’ ears, even more so than Minaya, and in organization meetings he’s never reticent to suggest areas where the manager might be doing a better job. I’m also told the Met high command ordered Manuel to tone down the not-so-subtle pleas for help in his pre and postgame mediafests and his periodic candor about his team’s deficiencies.

      Great. Just freakin’ great.
Just what we need about now. What is Bernazard anyway? A manager wannabe?

I could have told you that Manuel’s change was caused by someone. It’s not like he just had a revelation.

Oh, I’m not disputing that. I agree. It’s the implication of dissention among the Wilpons, the manager and Bernazard yet again. Like there is problems already – it’s adds to the headache.

The frustration of the team is starting to leak out – in more than one area.

    Cora quoted:

“It’s kind of comical… Every time you put on ESPN, they’re making fun of us. Instead of being in the Top 10 plays, we’re on the worst 10 plays. It gets to the point where you get tired of it.”

You’ve got to play good defense. Look at the teams leading the divisions — they catch the ball. Right now, I feel we’re the worst defensive team in the league. It doesn’t matter who you don’t have. You can’t go into slumps with defense. You’ve got to catch the ball. You can’t give a big-league team more than 27 outs, and we’ve been doing a pretty consistent job of that the last few weeks. They make you pay, man.”
(I couldn’t agree more, BTW. I give Cora kudos for telling it like it is).

    Tatis:

“One day I’m in left, the next day I’m in right, the next day I’m somewhere else, so it’s difficult. You have to really concentrate, especially when men are in scoring position. You have to anticipate the play.
(and this just goes back to what I’ve been saying for days now – about 5-6 guys playing out of position on any one night. If anyone doesn’t think that’s adding to the defensive woes, they haven’t been paying attention.)

Minus my opinion, of course – in parenthesis.

That Tatis quote is very interesting. In 2008 he started 35 games in RF, 28 in LF, 2 at 3B and 1 at 1B. I don’t recall him either complaining or making bonehead plays in 2008.

In 2009 he has started 21 games at 1B, 11 in LF, 3 at 2B and 1 at 3B. He hasn’t started a single game in RF, he has been there once this season as a replacement, so I find the “one day I’m in left the next day I’m in right” particularly confounding.

I guess the message Tatis is trying to send is “I’m not Mark DeRosa, stop using me as if I am.” Apparently the message got through, because he’s not playing today.
