All-Star Game Final Vote – Drown Shane!

It all comes down to this…the final day for the All-Star Game Final Vote. Okay, so it’s pretty anticlimactic for Mets fans, since none of our players are in it. Last year David Wright was among the nominees, but Corey Hart of the Brewers beat him out for the spot. Of course, Wright was eventually selected to play in the game as a replacement.

Shane Victorino likely holds the same fate if he doesn’t win this year’s Final Vote, as our very own Carlos Beltran will be unable to attend the game. But we can still achieve a moral victory by voting against obnoxious Shane!

barf1

Fixed.

stats

Matt Kemp, Mark Reynolds, and Pablo Sandoval all deserve the nod ahead of Shane! Vote away!
As of yesterday, Pablo Sandoval was ahead of Shane by 2% for the lead. He might be the best player to vote for.

Mine’s for the Panda. F Victorino.

  3. mrose

isn’t Sandoval the early leader as of yesterday? If you are gonna vote for someone other than Victorino, go for him

hah, its a glitch in chrome…i’ve been using ti to vote against Victorino

  7. QnsNative718

If we reeeeally wanted to stick it to Vicky then we should all vote for the same guy i.e. Sandoval or Kemp.

    1. There's Always '09

I’d vote for Victorino and hope he gets plunked by any flamethrowing AL pitcher. Hope he gets hit in the foot and breaks his pinky toe.

      1. CaseStreet

now way, he’d likely be on deck w/ D-Wright running home and he’d roll the bat in D-Wright’s way therefore completing the Core DL team

      2. QnsNative718

Our luck, he’s make the game winning hit which would boost his confidence so much it’ll fly out of his little league helmet. Btw, has Hudson always worn that silly style helmet?

        1. QnsNative718

          *he’d

  8. There's Always '09

Vic will probably get in regardless though. Beltran’s replacement on the roster?

  9. trs86

I am voting for Reynolds, that way Wright won’t play as much.

  10. wannybackstra

Kung Fu would probably also play 3B.

  11. sabermetrician

The thing that stinks about this. Victorino is not all-star calibre. The only reason he’s on that vote is because they keep extending the freaking rosters.

    1. prismo

Seriously! The rosters are way too large. The constant interchanging of players takes away from the game.

    2. wannybackstra

Most of these guys are not All-Star caliber. But Sandoval, Reynolds and Kemp are more deserving than Victorino.

      Christian Guzman is a scrub.

Dave Cameron of USS Mariner, using some kind of formula, speculates that Roy Halladay is worth $35m/year and that his trade value would be something like F-Mart, Flores and Mejia.

In my opinion, that doesn’t even come close for Halladay because 2 of three prospects are 3-4 years away and the one who is close doesn’t have a place to play in Toronto.

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/sweetspot/0-4-29/What-is-Roy-Halladay-worth-.html

    1. prismo

Hah, Toronto would laugh at that offer.

    2. CaseStreet

Dave Cameron does a really great job on his site. Whenever I heard how great Mattsblog was, I laughed when there’s site’s like the USS Mariner around.

I’d do that trade. It will hurt in a few years, but hey, you gotta give to get. Plus, we could always recoup in draft picks.

      1. CaseStreet

plus, we’d still have holt and niese.

      2. trs86

That trade is a no brainer for us and a no brain for them.

    3. trs86

For us to actually get him it would most likely cost us Pelfrey or Reyes.

      1. CaseStreet

maybe it’ll fall into Omar’s lap, like fong likes to say.

        1. There's Always '09

Not sure if Pelf gets it done. I think it’s Reyes or bust. Either way, I would look for Philly to grab him. Just a hunch.

          1. trs86

No a package of Pelfrey, Fmart/Flores, Niese would be WAY too much but hard to turn down for them. But that being said, they really want a SS and even Rollins name is coming up.

          2. There's Always '09

Don’t know why they would be interested in Rollins. Guy is having a dreadful season. Matter of fact, he has really only had one superb season in his career. He is 30 yrs old.

I take Reyes over Rollins any day of the week.

          3. trs86

Obviously so would they, but we are not offering Reyes.

      2. CaseStreet

Why does every trade have to start w/ Reyes? Does Philly have to trade one of their core players to get Doc?

        1. trs86

Nope, but what we don’t have is a top SS prospect which they want.

          1. There's Always '09

Are you saying Jason Donald is a top SS prospect? Last I heard, he was falling on his face this year in AAA.

          2. trs86

            Yes he is.

          3. wannybackstra

And they have Jason Donald, a solid defensive shortstop who hit 307 .391 .497 at AA last year (but has struggled pretty bad at AAA this year).

  13. mrose

@ToddZolecki Victorino takes the lead in the Final Vote. SO KEEP VOTING > http://bit.ly/lgKY2 #votevictorino3 minutes ago from web
    ugh

    1. prismo

      MOTHER $#%@ING NOOOOOOO!!!!!

  14. trs86

Guys if the Mets were serious about Halladay they would need to go out and get the best SS prospect in the game and then try and spin him in a package for Halladay. That’s not going to happen with just Fmart, Holt and Flores.

    1. There's Always '09

I think something like FMart, Holt, and a major league player could get it done.

Catchers are tough to come by as well and the Mets have a catcher in the minors that is looking good. FMart, Holt, Pelf, and Thole? Fact is, I don’t think the Jays are too concerned about if a player is 2-3 yrs away from the majors. JP Ricciardi said something to the effect of it’s going to be a three year process to see what their budget is going to be like, etc. Then he went on to say that Adam Dunn doesn’t like playing baseball.

From the Jays’ perspective, you have to think Halladay is going to be a goner this season. They can lose with him and without him. They never won anything with the duo of Halladay and Burnett. They have brought up some good young pitching this year. Halladay is 32 yrs old and his value next year may take a hit. Who knows how he’ll pitch leading up to the ASB? This year, he has been a legitimate ace. He would supplant Johan as our #1. Anyone wants to dispute that, I’ll argue that point any day of the week.

      1. trs86

Like I said they want a SS so unless that player is Reyes or Pelfrey I just don’t see it.

        1. trs86

Maybe if you could pry Tim Beckham away from TB? Then spin him in a package?

  15. trs86

Buster reports that Mulder is ready to audition for teams. That would not be a back guy to look at. He has been hurt for years but man when healthy he is a stud.

    1. stickguy

      only costs money.

  16. stickguy

Roy Halladay has officlaly jumped the shark for me. I either want him traded ASAP, or to blow out his elbow. ANything so we can stop hearing about the incessant rumors.

If this drags on trhough the trade deadline, then all off season, I might have to stop going to baseball sites!

Actually, let the phils gut the system for him, then he can get hurt.

Actually, people talk about him like he is a machine. Yes he is great, but he was already hurt this year, and will be 33 next year, with a ton of miles on his arm. Get the rental if yo are in all in mode like the phils, but a 5 year extension? talk about risky.

That is my last comment on the subject, other than to say it is highly unlikely the Mets get him, and if they have (and are willing to part with) the chips to get him, go after a difference maker on offense instead.

    1. CaseStreet

      who is that difference maker?

If all u want is offensive help, then ur just thinking about now.

When healthy, the Mets will score runs.

Santana and Doc on the Mets would be amazing.

Even if you brought in King Pujols, the other team would just pitch around him.

      1. trs86

That is my question. Fine if an offensive difference maker is out there this season or hell even in FA, fine. But there really is not. So when you can’t get what you need for your weakness you make your strength stronger.

        1. stickguy

FA is irrelevant to this discussion, since you are talking about unloading most of the value of the farm system for 1 guy (halladay). Who is only maybe sorta could be available (and if he wants to waive his no trade).

My point really is, they have major holes on offense, and not just now. in 2010 (when you are really getting halladay for), Delgado will be (better be!) gone. So you still need to get that big power bat to anchor the middle of the lineup.

And in the off season, who knows which players will be available. Fielder? Some other guys that are getting too expensive, and 1 year from FA? Maybe SD decides to reload and make Gonzolez available?

And if the FA class is that weak, even more important to have enough prospects to either plug in, or trade to fill the multiple holes on the field.

I’m just not sure that 2 30+ YO pitchers making 40mill combined (or close to it) with a lineup featuring Santos, Murphy, Evans Castillo and Church (supporting DW, reyes and Beltran) is going to get it done.

Remember, Halladay has to still be considered if not a “bad” contract, at least a massive one.

I said at the time that the Santana deal was liely to bite them in the butt before it was done (although they still needed to roll the dice). Extending Doc 5 years? even more likely.

  17. mattsmith

Aaah, more jealously and anger from Mets fans. Love it. I’d take a proven winner in Vic on my team over Beltran any day.

    1. trs86

Proven winner? Because of one WS? So is Dan Marino not a proven winner?

    2. mrose

I wouldn’t call it jealousy at all. Victorino is a good player, but I wouldn’t call him a proven winner because he had one world series. Beltran has had MANY game winning hits and done the same things as Victorino as well. I’ll still always take Beltran… that is a no brainer for me.

And I don’t feel like getting into the smae argument for the umpteenth time, but I can’t stand Victorino’s taunting. Yes, I know the argument is “what is Reyes doing?” my answer, Reyes – celebrates as he celebrates with his team and himself, just like Victorino did rounding the bases with his grand slam against CC last year. When you clap in the direction of the opposite team’s dugout or stand on home plate doing the same, you are taunting.

that argument will likely never end
      lol

      1. phillies09

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Beltran smile… to be honest. He’s so depressing to look at

        1. trs86

You are just looking at the Mole, try sliding your eyes over a little if you can.

        2. phillies09

haha thanks for the tip! haha
