This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 7-14-09

Hey Kids it’s yet another fun filled fact laden All Star Break edition of “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” . So to quote the late great Joey Ramone ” HEY HO LETS GO !!!”
First off birthday wishes go out to the architect of the ’69 team and brother of long time announcer Bob Murphy the late Johnny Murphy (1908)
Next up was probably the most important position player of the 2000 team third baseman Robin ” Grand Slam Single” Ventura (1967) – I know his production was down but I was still upset when we traded him to the Yankees for David Justice – and what happened he had a solid year and propelled our cross town nemesis to yet another World Series appearance.
New York Mets traded Jeromy” Spoke In Class Today” ( Sorry for the Pearl Jam reference) Burnitz to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Victor ( 5 tool player) Diaz, Joselo ” WHO!!” Diaz and Kole Strayhorn on July 14, 2003.
and lastly todays Mo Vaughn Tidbit of the day – he was the original bass player for alt metal/ funkcore band FISHBONE”PARTY AT GROUND ZERO”

I’ll never forget the day we traded Robin Ventura. My sister called me up ranting and raving. He was her favorite player at the time. All she kept saying was ‘The Yankees. They traded him to the YANKEES????’

Who was the genius that made that trade?

Which one? Those both ended up being pretty poor trades.

I always like to sing it as “Jeremy Spokane” for no good reason.
