How to get the Mets Movitated For The Second Half

The Mets have just went through a 9-18 month of June that took them from 6 games over .500 and 1.5(2nd place) out of first place to .500 and 3 games(3rd place) out of first. Needless to say, the Mets are sinking and sinking fast. I believe we have seen just about everything that can go wrong with a team in just one month. Whether its dropping a routine fly ball to end a game or committing 3 errors in one inning, the Mets played flat out awful in June. While many say the Mets just have to “stay alive” until the cavalry comes back, the Mets at times just seemed to play “woe is me” type of baseball. Now im sure everyone can play GM and attempt to figure out what is wrong with this team and come up with solutions but the reality is no major help is coming relatively soon. Bottom line is the Mets are going to have to get it done with the people they have playing right now. I believe they need some motivation to see them through the rest of the year. I am a huge fan of the movie Major Leagues and decided to borrow a motivational tactic from the all wise Coach Lou Brown. In the Movie, the team(Indians) had a female GM who use to be a Vegas showgirl. Lou Brown decided to get a life size poster of their GM and cover it with several strips of leopard print. Lou said that each strip represents the amount of games he thinks it will take to get to the playoffs and with each win, a strip is removed. I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate that idea on here.

Yes i know…not the most sexiest motivation you have seen. Given this, i decided to use….better motivational material but I would like our readers to let us know who they believe would be the most motivational of these beautiful women to get the Mets on the right track. Seeing how weak this division is, 88 games may give us the division championship. The Mets would need to win 46 games in order to accomplish this. My hope is that they share the same success as the team in the movie had as in my opinion, they are eerily similar. So please weigh in on the 2009 Mets motivational model. Only registered members are able to vote so if you would like to participate and are not registered, please do so. Who should be the Mets motivational model? Vote Here! You decide and as always LGM! The poll will be available throughout the ASB and the winner will be decided at the open of the second half.

Who here thinks that we are going to make a deal of any real significance before the trade deadline?

    1. dirtysanchez

no one…but we have all been proved wrong before. The way i see it, if omar makes a move…it will be for something that NOBODY expected.

define significance, but I don’t think they wil lbe getting anyone that will make your jaw drop.

        Significance = Manny in 2008

Now now, mr bill, let us look forward my friend…the Manny ship has sailed….

          1. mrbill

Stickguy asked to define significance… To me, significance is what Manny did for the dodgers in 2008. That’s what a significant trade would mean for the mets this year, a player like him.

Sorry, I missed that point, and you are 100% correct.

What if we tried to get something like that and got Duke and Holliday? That might be a reach.

I actually think the Mets may make a move. I’d like to know how many think that, but apparently dirty has resolved the issue.

    1. dirtysanchez

lol i was spking for myself sabe..i think he will make “moves” but as far as “real signifigance(i.e. adrian gonzalez, roy halladay)” i dont think so but like i said earlier i could be wrong.

      1. sabermetrician

I’m giving you a hard time. I don’t think we’ll get a Halladay or a Holliday, but I do think we’re going to get a player of some real significance.

        1. mrbill

          Who?

          1. sabermetrician

Duke? I’m not sure…I’d like Bedard, but as I ask below, aiming too high? What do you think Mrbill?

          2. mrbill

I don’t think the mets are going to get anybody this year because a) Omar is fixated with having the injured core back early enough to win and b)the mets don’t have enough to make a significant trade.

It’s too bad because this team needs a good starting pitcher and a good bat.

          3. sabermetrician

“It’s too bad because this team needs a good starting pitcher and a good bat.”

            Agreed 100%.

As for Omar’s thought process, you’re probably right, but I’ve given up trying to think like that man.

  3. stickguy

shouldn’t you have added anna benson in her santa suit to the poll?

    1. dirtysanchez

everyone already saw that picture ;p

    2. Kingman 26

Well, the problem with Anna Benson is that what is inside her head and what comes out of her mouth is so obnoxious and negative and idiotic, that she could be twice as hot as she is and STILL be unattractive overall….I like Dirty’s choices.

  4. sabermetrician

Okay, who could be the player of most significance that we MIGHT get?

    1. wannybackstra

I don’t think we know yet who is really available.

I’m going to guess the acquisition is a relief pitcher to take Putz’s spot.

I think with Francoeur wrongly believed to be an everyday player in RF and Pagan thought of highly enough to be Sheff’s caddy in LF and Delgado making progress at 1B, that a hitter will not be acquired.

      1. sabermetrician

Wow, I hope you’re wrong and we at LEAST get a bat. I think first we should look for a strong SP. (Bedard if Seattle starts to falter? Aiming too high? Maybe just Duke.) Then we need a bat who can be versatile defensively. Not a utility guy per se, just versatile. Francoeur concerns me, because I do think Omar sees him as a long term answer in RF, which he is not worthy of at this point.

        1. sabermetrician

Should be a question mark after “Maybe just Duke?”

        2. wannybackstra

I’d like Bedard too but I think his injury history and price tag might not make him the best fit. Plus, while Seattle is competitive they’d probably need to be blown away to trade him. Remember that they essentially rebuilt Baltimore’s future when they acquired him for Adam Jones, Chris Tillman, et. al. He won’t come that easy.

If Maine seems on target to return, I have trouble seeing the Mets trade for a SP even though I agree it would be a wise acquisition.

I can see the Mets trading for someone out of Cleveland’s bullpen, like Steroid Betancourt, for example. George Sherrill from Baltimore would be a good target as a LH set-up guy who could free Feliciano to sleep once in a while or pitch earlier in games.
