So, with the All-Star Game over it’s time for a day of relaxing/reflecting and then we jump into the second half of this season. Going into the second half I’ve already thrown in the towel, but we aren’t actually eliminated yet… so there’s still a long shot chance in a lousy division.

I’m still ticked over the Church trade, not because I thought he was a great player or anything, but more because I think he got treated really poorly here and was never given a chance. I hope gets a chance to prove he’s a decent player in Atlanta. I always liked him. Francoeur has a lot of work ahead of him before I accept him as a part of my team…. (learn some patience at the plate, chief)

Livan is tailing off mid-season… as he has for a few years now and we realistically expected he would. I still think it was a good signing and I’m happy with how he’s done. That being said, I think it’s almost time to think about calling up Niese. A number of us were saying early on that he needs more seasoning and could look good as a mid-season callup… well, he’s certainly making a case for that in Buffalo right now.

Also, I’m sick of Tim Redding and his Chin-pokomon of Doom. Get him out of here, please…

Amen to your thoughts on Church and Francoeur. Francoeur has a ton of work to do to become a respectable hitter again.
I’m excited for the second half, but the next 17 games will tell whether we have something to root for or not. For now, Let’s Go Mets! (Well always, but for now there’s still some hope for this season).

I really want to see us actually do well against the Braves this weekend. They’re a better team than they get credit for, with a pitching staff that’s nothing to sneeze at. Our AAA lineup could easily get completely shut down over those 4 games (haven’t looked at the pitching matchups though, so I could be wrong). Should be interesting seeing Jeff and Ryan playing against their former teams so quickly after the trade.

Regarding Niese: what are stats lately? I can only find his total stats, which are not impressive (even though they have been compiled at AAA, which is his highest level for this length of time):

      15 GS
      4-6 record
      4.12 era
      87.1 IP, 93 H and 24 BB
      1.340 WHIP

His BB and K ratios aren’t bad, though:

      2.2 BB/9
      8.2 K/9
      3.33 K/BB

Has he be very good lately?

        In his last 6 starts:

        4-0
        .83 ERA
        43.1 IP
        40 K
        10 BB
        .97 WHIP
        4.0 K/BB
        2.07 BB/9
        8.31 I/9

          8.31 K/9*

          very nice

Wow, that’s good stuff. Over 7 IP per start! I can’t see how he wouldn’t be ready for another try in the deep end.

Where did you find the breakdown?

          1. sabermetrician

http://www.milb.com does game by game breakdown. I just threw together when he got hot.

            Thanks Saber.

Those are the stats I was thinking of when I said he’s looking good lately. Didn’t have the time to hunt them down, though. Thanks, Saber.

Pretty much agree with all, though Redding should be the long-man.

    Sell high.

    1. stickguy

Or, use him in the rotation to replace one of the guys stining up the joint?

Unless you want to see Livan and Redding (or the next version of them) next year too?

  3. steveo

Package him up wth murphy or evans and try to get a real #2

By the way what happened to the reassessment of where the team was at, during the break? I guess they reassessed and figured we stink and nothing will help at this pont?

    1. Kingman 26

Or, they might have reassessed and still BE reassessing…..the trade deadline is July 31.
