Tony B’s gut tells them? They use a sorting hat?
From reading Toby’s minor league blog, it seems to be a bit of a mystery with the mets on some of these guys (who seem either rushed or held back).
But, it is a combo of the level they played at (internatinal, college or HS), how good they are, and what needs each team has.
I think a lot of these guys start out in extended ST too, until they get placed.

I knew it. They use the sorting hat. That’d be a pretty funny skit on Daily Show.

I have not seen the Mets listed among the teams expected to bid on Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman, who is being referred to as the left-handed Stephen Strasburg.
In reality, he’s probably not nearly as good as Strasburg — at least not right now. He struggled in the Cuban league despite throwing over 100 MPH and having plus breaking/offspeed pitches too. There are also doubts as to his real age.
Nonetheless, he’s the consensus best international free agent and the Mets, who were supposedly committed to international free agency and have failed to maximize its financial power in the U.S. draft, should at least be bidding.

According to recent reports, Aroldis Chapman is too mentally stable to join the Mets’ farm system.

I read over on MLBTR (I believe) they used some kind of medical test to verify this kids age. Came in at 16-17, so you never know….

All the more reason for the Mets to be involved.

Is ZeErika Hall a man or a women?

Anyone know whether moneys spent on draft signings have anything to do w/ moneys for salaries? I’d think that they are separate.

If a player has a major league contract and is therefore placed on the 40 man roster, I believe that will count toward the salary cap.
I could be wrong about that, though.
Maybe someone else has more than just a theory.

i was thinking more of the 2009 draft guys and Chapman. When we hear the Mets don’t have money for this or that, does that include money for signing these guys?

Chapman is a different story than the 2009 draft guys. He’ll command much more money. They have the money to sign the 2009 draft guys; only a few remain. Matz is said to want $1.1m or thereabout and that is consistent with what was thought before the draft. Presumably, the Mets would not have taken him if they couldn’t pay him.
Magnifico reportedly wants something similar. That one could turn into a bit of an ordeal.
