This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 7-16-09

Good Morning all !! It’s time for the begining of the second half edition of ” This Day In Mets Infamy with Rusty”. So get out your rosary beads and your bottle of Maloxx because thje next three months is going to be a rollercoaster ride of mammoth poportions!!
Happy birthday greetings go out to back up catcher for the “63 team – Norm ” NORM !” Sherry (1931)

New York Mets traded pitcher Jack ” WANNABE ” Lamabe to the St. Louis Cardinals for Al ” ACTION ” Jackson on July 16, 1967. – This was Jacksons second tour with the Mets and has been with the Mets organization as a coach/ scout ever since.

New York Mets purchased pitcher John Strohmayer from the Montreal Expos on July 16, 1973.

New York Mets traded Dave Cochrane to the Chicago White Sox for super sub ( and one of my all time favorite mets scrubs )Tom Paciorek on July 16, 1985.

New York Mets traded Armando “BOOOOO !” Benitez to the New York Yankees for Jason Anderson, Ryan Bicondoa and Anderson Garcia on July 16, 2003.This was one of the few trades the Mets and Yankees ever made together and the funny thing is the yanks traded his to the Mariners less than a month later ( guess they found out about his penchant for giving up homeruns also )

New York Mets released Julio ” Father Time” Franco on July 16, 2007. as we all know this was the germination of the mistrust between Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya after Willie’s batting Coach Rick Down was fired. – Oh by the was Julio is now manageing in our farm system.
Oh and I got letter from Mo Vaughn in which he states ” I’m not fat – I am just ” Fluffy!!” – his words – NOT MINE !!!
