Injury News: Nieve to DL, Sullivan Up

Sullivan is on his way up

Sullivan is on his way up

The Mets have placed Fernando Nieve on the DL according to multiple twitter feeds, including Bart Hubbuch and have recalled OF Cory Sullivan to take his place on the roster for now.  His rotation spot will not come up until Saturday, so they will likely make another move later in the week for his start.

Cory sullivan has to be wondering what he’s done wrong to have been on the 40 man roster all season without managing to be recalled until now.

He’s also got to be wondering when his season-ending injury is going to occur.

As far as I can tell, he and Jeremy Reed are clones. His call-up suggests that Sheffield is probably not ready to return yet.

Yea maybe he should do the equivalent of shooting himself in the foot to avoid a career threatening injury.

I think we’ve found our power bat!

FMart should have never been called up to the majors this year, instead it should have been Sullivan. Another example of Omar’s ineptness.

I agree…the roster moves have been pretty suspect this whole year. Thats one area that should have been a no brainer. I mean how many games were we playing with a short bench for NO reason…

I don’t have any problem with FMart being recalled when he was. It fits Omar’s profile perfectly: throw something and see if it sticks. This guy IS their #1 prospect, so you see if maybe WHAM it just all comes together.

Where I leave the reservation on FMart is I think it should’ve been apparent much sooner that he DIDN’T stick and he should’ve been sent back down. And he should NOT have been recalled when (whoever, I can’t remember anymore) went on the DL shortly after they finally DID send him down but because of that DL move they brought him back 4 days later. At that point it should’ve been Sullivan. That’s my opinion on FMart on the roster.

Well, looks like we get no FO changes: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/07/20/minaya.manuel/index.html

    Is anyone surprised?

      Well no
      2 things
      1) If we get to use the injury excuse for the Mets then so do they.
      2) They said Willie was safe too.

I’m not at all surprised. Omar’s contract extension kicks in next year. He’s pretty unlikely to be fired with 3 years left on his contract.

Jerry, I thought might get fired after I read an article earlier this year that demonstrated the majority of managers who are hired mid-season are themselves replaced within a year and a half. But given the injuries, I can see how they wouldn’t fire him. He didn’t hurt the players.

yeah, im not shocked on Omar, but Jerry has managed so poorly.

Agreed and I want him gone, but that being said who could have done well with this group?

You bring up an excellent point above: this could be (at least for Jerry, because no matter what I just don’t see them firing Omar this year) the dreaded vote of confidence before the sacking.

dont mean to upset you guys but fatty just announced that both omar and jerry will be back next year – i guess fred doesnt want to pay another manager to not manage lol

It’s nice to know that Fatty reads (or at least has someone read for him) Sports Illustrated.

lol he reads his alpha bits

He stopped eating alphabet soup for a snack because the interns only served it to him with “F’s” and “U’s” in the bowl.

I just made that up, there’s no truth to it whatsoever.
