Good morning my fellow mets acolytes. It is time for everyones favorite source of useless Mets information. Thats right it is time for yet another edition of ” This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” !!
On this day 8 years ago our New York Mets traded Todd ” Tank” Pratt to the Philadelphia Phillies for Gary ” Morality Czar” Bennett on July 23, 2001. – if you may recall this was a typical ” circle the wagon mentality ” by our beloved teams front office. Apparently Steve Phillips wasn’t thrilled with good old Todd’s out spokenly candid remarks of the team suckitude and was sent packing with Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook shown the door later that week.
Mo Vaughn fun fact of the day – he watches the food network wearing nothing but a smile. – i’d duck for cover when he watches Alton Brown making ribs.
And lastly, my opinion on the way Omar Minaya handled the Tony Bernazard press conference was typical Omar – he says nothing ( coherently at least) and I just know that no fireings will come from this – and on the bright side at least noone went on the disabled list

I remember those deals. That during the height of my ‘Steve Phillips is a prick and needs to get canned’ days. Good thing he was. What a joke of a GM, and amazingly an even worse baseball announcer.

Did you know that Omar was his assistant gm? That should make you smile or spit out your coffee on this glorious morning.
If you’re a pitcher and a Houston Astro, you gotta be licking your chops. We have made John Lannan and Craig Stammen look like Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling.
Let’s Go Islanders and Giants! This is inwatchable, but I’ll watch anyway.

Steve Phillips was not exactly the brightest GM but he complicated his own incompetence with his moral problems as well. Man….I forgot about those dark days in Met history.

I remember thinking that Cook/Wendell deal was not likely to help the club. I hope I don’t have that same sinking feeling later this week.
